There is no single best team for every account or mode; the right lineup depends on your available Nikkes, their skills, and what you are fighting.
Start with a complete Burst chain
NIKKE squads use units assigned to Burst I, Burst II, or Burst III. When the shared Burst gauge fills, the chain advances through I → II → III. Completing all three stages activates Full Burst, after which the gauge resets when the period ends. Nikke.gg’s Team Building Guide describes Full Burst as lasting 10 seconds.
Make sure your five-unit squad can provide each stage of the chain. A lineup with several powerful damage dealers can still struggle if it cannot reach Full Burst consistently. Burst stage is not a job description, though: B1 units are often support-oriented, B2 units commonly provide defense or buffs, and B3 units often deal damage, but individual Nikkes can cover more than one function.
Check cooldowns before filling every slot
A team needs a rotation it can actually sustain, not merely one Burst I, one Burst II, and several Burst III units on paper. Some B1 and B2 skills have 20-second cooldowns, while some B3 skills have 40-second cooldowns. Nikke.gg and Google Play’s beginner team-building tips both point to cooldowns as a key consideration; the Google Play guide recommends another unit of the same Burst stage when relying on a 40-second cooldown.

As a composition goal, look for a B1 and B2 setup that lets your team keep cycling into Full Burst, then decide whether a second B3 or another utility unit best supports that rotation. The actual cadence depends on the selected units and their skills, so check the cooldowns on the Nikkes you own rather than assuming a formation guarantees a particular cycle.
Choose a formation that fits your roster
Two common starting points emphasize different trade-offs. Google Play presents 1-1-3 as a reliable beginner structure, while Nikke.gg’s framework commonly uses one B1, one B2, two B3s, and a fifth “sub” slot for utility or off-burst value.

| Formation | Structure | What it emphasizes |
|---|---|---|
| 1-1-3 | One B1, one B2, three B3s | A third B3 option for damage or flexibility; check that cooldowns still support the rotation. |
| 1-1-2 plus flex | One B1, one B2, two B3s, one utility or off-burst unit | A dedicated slot for another team function while retaining two B3s. |
Neither structure is automatically superior. Compare the Nikkes’ actual cooldowns and skills, then use the extra B3 or flex slot to address the biggest need in your team.
Cover the jobs your five units need to do
Think about what the squad collectively provides rather than trying to assign one exclusive role to each Burst stage. Nikke.gg groups team functions into damage dealing, offensive support, defensive support, energy support, healing, and shielding; one Nikke may contribute to several.

- Damage: Include dependable damage for the encounter. Wave clear helps against groups; single-target pressure matters more against a boss.
- Offensive support: Consider attack or damage buffs for allies, or debuffs that weaken enemies.
- Rotation support: Cooldown reduction or Burst-generation support can help keep the chain moving when your lineup needs it.
- Survivability: Add healing, shielding, or damage reduction if the stage’s incoming damage is a problem.
Do not add a healer or defensive unit by default if the squad already survives comfortably and lacks damage. Conversely, replacing a needed survival tool with another attacker can make a team that looks strong on paper fail to finish a difficult encounter.
Account for weapons and Burst gauge generation
Attacks help generate Burst gauge, and weapon behavior affects how a unit performs at different ranges, against groups, and against a single target. Nikke.gg notes that area-of-effect hits can produce more gauge per round, while weapon type also affects rate of fire and damage pattern. These are reasons to evaluate how a unit functions in the content you are playing, not enough on their own to establish a universal weapon or character ranking.

If a team struggles to reach Full Burst, look beyond the Burst labels: consider whether its attacks are connecting, whether its weapon coverage fits the stage, and whether its cooldown support is adequate.
Adapt the lineup to the mode and enemy
Campaign stages generally call for balanced teams, while some bosses reward lineups tailored to their weaknesses, according to Google Play’s beginner guidance. Nikke.gg separates its campaign, Tribe Tower, Arena, and Interception recommendations, reflecting that a team built for one mode may not transfer cleanly to another.

For Tribe Tower, Nikke.gg’s Tribe Tower Compositions guide highlights general needs such as buffers, cooldown reduction, damage dealers, and boss healing where required. The page was updated April 28, 2025, so treat its role guidance as a framework rather than a current character ranking.
When choosing between two candidate squads, compare them on these points:
- Burst chain and cooldowns: Can the lineup complete I → II → III, and do its skills support the rotation you want?
- Damage pattern: Does the stage call for wave clear, single-target damage, or both?
- Support: Which lineup brings more useful buffs, debuffs, cooldown reduction, or Burst generation?
- Survivability: Can it endure the encounter with its current healing, shields, or damage reduction?
- Fit: Does it suit this mode and enemy, and can you build it from the Nikkes available on your account?
Example: a campaign lineup from Nikke.gg
Nikke.gg’s Team Compositions page gives Liter (B1), Crown (B2), Red Hood and Modernia (B3), with Naga in the flex slot, as a general campaign example. The guide’s rationale includes cooldown reduction, wave clear, Burst generation, and offensive synergy. It also lists substitutions, with some alternatives requiring more investment or manual play.
This is one guide’s example, not a universal prescription. The team-building guide is marked updated August 26, 2026, and character recommendations can change as the game evolves. Use the example to understand how different jobs can complement one another, then adapt its structure to your roster and stage.
Quick Recap
A practical way to build your first effective team
- Pick a usable Burst I and Burst II core. Check their skills and cooldowns rather than selecting only by stage label.
- Add enough Burst III coverage. Decide between a third B3 and a utility slot based on cooldown needs and what the stage demands.
- Check the squad’s damage profile. Favor wave clear for groups or single-target damage for bosses when the encounter calls for it.
- Fill the most important support gap. Add buffs, debuffs, cooldown help, or Burst generation if the rotation or damage needs it.
- Test survivability against the content. Add healing, shielding, or damage reduction if the team cannot stay alive long enough to execute its plan.
- Reassess for each mode. Keep a balanced campaign lineup as a starting point, but change units when a boss, tower stage, or other mode asks for a different answer.
