Evolve Zorua into Zoroark, then use Snarl and Foul Play. That is the practical Dark-type raid build supported by the current October 2026 analysis. Zoroark can contribute useful damage against Psychic- and Ghost-focused raid bosses, but its low bulk means it is a budget or favorite-Pokémon choice rather than a premium investment. Appraise your Zorua first, evolve a worthwhile specimen for 50 Zorua Candy, teach the recommended moves, and only then decide how much Stardust and Candy your raid roster can spare.
What a strong Zorua build actually means in PvE
For raids, the meaningful project is not an unevolved Zorua. The investment target is Zoroark, its evolution. Zorua can learn a Dark-oriented moveset as a standalone Pokémon, but its lower ceiling makes it a poor reason to spend serious raid resources. Evolution costs 50 Zorua Candy, and the evolved Pokémon has the Attack, CP potential and moveset recommendation that make a raid discussion worthwhile.

Zoroark fills a specific role: a Dark-type attacker for bosses vulnerable to Dark damage, especially Psychic- and Ghost-type raid targets. It has enough Attack to produce respectable burst damage, but its Defense and HP leave little margin for incoming hits. In practical terms, Zoroark can help you assemble a Dark team when stronger options are unavailable, underpowered or already committed to another battle. It should not automatically replace a sturdier or harder-hitting attacker that you already own.
That distinction prevents the most common mistake with this species. A high CP number by itself does not make a strong raid attacker. Fast- and Charged-Attack pairing, type effectiveness, the boss’s moves, the level you can afford, and how long Zoroark survives all influence its real contribution.

|---|---|---|
| Pokémon used for raids | Zoroark, evolved from Zorua | The evolved form has the offensive profile and CP ceiling relevant to PvE. |
| Evolution cost | 50 Zorua Candy | Save the Candy until you have selected the specimen you actually want to build. |
| Type | Dark | Useful into Psychic- and Ghost-focused raid damage; vulnerable to Bug, Fairy and Fighting attacks. |
| Fast Attack | Snarl | The current raid recommendation; it outperforms Sucker Punch in the cited simulator comparison. |
| Charged Attack | Foul Play | The recommended Dark-type pairing for Zoroark’s raid role. |

| Maximum listed CP | 2,907 at level 50 | A ceiling from the Pokémon GO Hub database, not a guarantee of raid performance. |
The figures in the Zoroark rows come from the Pokémon GO Hub database accessed October 13, 2026. They are database values, not an official Niantic ranking.
Choose the right Zorua before evolving
1. Appraise first
Open the Zorua’s appraisal screen before spending Candy. Compare candidates by their Attack, Defense and HP bars, then consider practical factors such as the Pokémon’s current level and how much Stardust you are willing to spend. No special IV threshold that guarantees a raid breakpoint is established, so avoid treating a particular appraisal pattern as universally mandatory. A strong individual that you can actually power up is more useful than an ideal-looking specimen that will remain at a low level.
2. Keep the role in mind
Pick a Zorua for a Dark raid team, not simply the one with the largest current CP. The unevolved species has a listed maximum CP of 1,329 at level 50, with 153 Attack, 78 Defense and 120 HP in the same database. Those numbers explain why CP on the Zorua screen should not be used to judge its eventual raid value. The relevant comparison is the Zoroark it will become.
3. Check your existing roster
Before evolving, look at the Dark attackers already available to you. If your roster contains several high-performing, durable Dark attackers, Zoroark may be a collection project rather than a priority. If you lack a complete Dark team, a well-selected Zorua can be a reasonable way to add another attacker without waiting for a rarer option. This is a roster decision, not a claim that every Zorua should be powered to level 50.
Evolve Zorua into Zoroark for 50 Candy
- Open your Pokémon storage and select the Zorua you chose after appraisal.
- Confirm the evolution preview. The button should show the 50 Zorua Candy requirement before you commit.
- Evolve it into Zoroark. Do this before planning the final raid moveset; the raid recommendation in this guide applies to Zoroark, not to unevolved Zorua.
- Reopen the evolved Pokémon’s summary and verify its type, current attacks and available power-up options.
Do not spend the entire Candy reserve on an impulsive evolution if you are still comparing candidates. Evolution is the one fixed species-specific cost established for this build; later power-ups add resource costs that vary with the Pokémon’s current level and your account.
Set Snarl and Foul Play
Why Snarl is the raid fast move
The standard Dark raid pairing is Snarl + Foul Play. Pokémon GO Hub’s Zoroark database lists that combination as the recommended Dark-type moveset and models it at 14.33 DPS and 181.2 total damage output (TDO) in its neutral benchmark. DPS describes modeled damage rate; TDO describes the modeled damage accumulated before the attacker faints. Neither number is a universal promise because the result changes with boss defenses, moves, dodging assumptions and other simulator settings.
Why Sucker Punch is not the default
Zoroark gained access to the Legacy Fast Attack Sucker Punch through the October 2026 Community Day evolution window discussed in the October 8, 2026 Pokémon GO Hub guide. That event detail matters for move access, but it does not change the recommendation for ordinary raid building. In the same source’s comparison, Sucker Punch + Foul Play produced 13.97 DPS and 176.7 TDO, below Snarl + Foul Play at 14.33 DPS and 181.2 TDO under that model. If you evolved during the event and received Sucker Punch, keep it only if you have a specific reason; for a fresh raid build, Snarl remains the preferred fast move.

What about Zorua’s listed moves?
The database lists Feint Attack and Foul Play as Zorua’s recommended standalone moveset. That information applies to the unevolved form, while the stronger PvE plan here concerns Zoroark. Do not mistake the unevolved recommendation for a reason to invest in Zorua as a long-term raid attacker.
Power up in a way that matches your roster
Start with the moveset, not maximum CP
Once Zoroark has Snarl and Foul Play, decide whether its current level is sufficient for the raid you are preparing to face. A level-50 CP ceiling of 2,907 tells you the maximum listed CP, not the amount of damage a particular Zoroark will deliver. A lower-level attacker with the right matchup can be useful, while a fully powered attacker in a bad matchup can be a liability.
Use incremental checkpoints
Power up in stages rather than committing every resource immediately. After each group of power-ups, reassess three things: whether Zoroark fills a missing slot in your Dark team, whether the target boss actually uses Psychic- or Ghost-oriented damage, and whether the next investment displaces a stronger attacker you could build instead. This approach is especially important because Zoroark’s low bulk can limit the value of additional levels if it still faints quickly to a super-effective move.
When a larger investment is defensible
- You regularly face a raid boss for which Dark damage is super effective.
- Your current Dark roster has too few usable members to fill a team.
- You have a high-quality Zoroark and enough resources that investing in it does not delay stronger counters.
- You value using Zoroark and accept that its performance is below the leading benchmarks.
When to stop at a low or moderate level
- You already have several high-damage Dark attackers with better survival.
- The boss carries Bug-, Fairy- or Fighting-type attacks that exploit Zoroark’s weaknesses.
- You are saving Stardust or Candy for a more impactful roster upgrade.
- You are building a temporary team for one raid rather than a general-purpose attacker.
Match Zoroark to the right raid boss
Preferred targets: Psychic and Ghost
Zoroark’s Dark typing makes it a natural choice when the raid boss’s relevant attacks or typing are Psychic- or Ghost-oriented. It resists Psychic and Ghost damage, with the cited type chart showing a stronger resistance to Psychic. Those resistances help Zoroark remain on the field long enough for its Attack stat and Foul Play to matter.
Recommended Free Tools
Resistance does not erase the species’ frailty. A boss can still defeat Zoroark quickly with high overall damage, and the exact outcome depends on the boss’s moveset and the battle conditions. Use the typing as a screening tool: it identifies favorable categories, not a guaranteed solo or duo result.
Avoid exposed weaknesses: Bug, Fairy and Fighting
Bug, Fairy and Fighting attacks deal increased damage to Dark-type Zoroark. If the raid boss uses one of those attack types, Zoroark’s already limited Defense and HP become a larger problem. In that situation, select a counter that both deals effective damage and survives the boss’s moves, even if its theoretical DPS is lower in a neutral simulation.
Read the boss moveset, not only its species
A boss with a Psychic typing can still carry a coverage move that punishes Zoroark. Conversely, a boss that is not itself Ghost- or Psychic-type may use attacks that make another counter preferable. Check the boss’s actual raid moves and your lobby’s expected duration before committing a fragile Dark attacker. The purpose of Zoroark’s resistance is to improve its matchup, not to replace matchup analysis.

How Zoroark compares with other Dark attackers
The following values are Pokémon GO Hub simulation outputs cited in its October 2026 PvE comparison. They are useful for understanding the trade-off between damage rate and staying power, but they are not official game rankings or field-test results.

| Mega Houndoom — Snarl / Dark Pulse+ | 22.09 | 486.2 | Highest listed damage rate and substantially more total modeled damage than Zoroark. |
| Mega Tyranitar — Bite / Brutal Swing | 19.10 | 719.3 | Lower DPS than Mega Houndoom in this model but the greatest listed total damage before fainting. |
| Shadow Darkrai — Snarl / Foul Play | 20.07 | 350.7 | Higher modeled damage and survival than Zoroark in the cited comparison. |
| Hydreigon — Bite / Brutal Swing | 16.00 | 384.8 | Modestly higher DPS and more than double Zoroark’s modeled TDO in this snapshot. |
| Zoroark — Snarl / Foul Play | 14.33 | 181.2 | Accessible Dark option with useful damage, but the weakest listed survival profile. |
The comparison does not mean Zoroark is unusable. It means you should identify the reason you are building it. If your account already has the higher-performing alternatives in workable condition, Zoroark is unlikely to be the best place for scarce resources. If those alternatives are unavailable to your roster or you simply need another Dark attacker, Zoroark can still fill a slot against an appropriate boss.
Understand DPS and TDO before drawing conclusions
DPS is burst potential
Damage per second is useful when a raid has a tight timer or when a short-lived attacker can deliver a burst before fainting. Zoroark’s 14.33 modeled DPS with Snarl and Foul Play is a neutral benchmark from the cited database, not a value you should expect in every battle. Super-effective damage, weather, party bonuses, boss defense and move timing can all alter the displayed result.
TDO is the survival check
Total damage output captures how much damage the attacker can model before it faints. Zoroark’s 181.2 TDO in the same benchmark is much lower than the listed values for the other Dark attackers. That gap is the numerical expression of its frailty: a strong Attack stat cannot keep adding damage after the Pokémon leaves the field.
Use both numbers with the matchup
Do not select a team by sorting one column alone. A high-TDO attacker may be preferable when the boss’s moves are punishing, while a high-DPS attacker can be valuable when the lobby needs quick damage. Zoroark makes the most sense when its Dark typing is favorable, its weaknesses are not exposed, and your roster needs another usable member more than it needs the absolute top benchmark.
Battle tactics for a fragile Dark attacker
Enter with the correct party
Place Zoroark in a party built for the boss rather than using it as a universal lead. Against a Psychic- or Ghost-focused target, it can occupy one or more slots alongside your strongest Dark attackers. Against a boss with Bug, Fairy or Fighting coverage, move it down the team or remove it entirely if the matchup is clearly unfavorable.
Watch how quickly it is losing HP
Zoroark’s value depends on remaining in battle long enough to use Foul Play. If the health bar is falling rapidly, a bulkier counter may produce more total damage even if its displayed DPS is lower. The database’s TDO comparison is a reminder to treat fainting speed as part of damage planning, not as a separate cosmetic statistic.

Re-enter only when the team needs it
If a first party faints, rebuild around the boss’s remaining health and your available counters. Reusing Zoroark is sensible when Dark damage is still effective and your alternatives are weaker or unavailable. It is not sensible to re-enter with Zoroark solely because it has a high CP if the boss’s moveset directly exploits its weaknesses.

Choosing Sucker Punch because it is newer
Problem: The October 2026 Community Day move appears special, so you assume it must be stronger.
Correction: The cited comparison modeled Sucker Punch/Foul Play at 13.97 DPS and 176.7 TDO, below Snarl/Foul Play at 14.33 DPS and 181.2 TDO. Keep the historical event detail in mind for move access, but use Snarl for the standard raid build.
Maxing CP without checking the matchup
Problem: You spend resources because Zoroark is close to its maximum listed CP.
Correction: Check the boss’s typing and moves first. The level-50 CP ceiling and Attack value describe potential, while the battle’s resistances, weaknesses and survival determine whether that potential becomes useful damage.

A practical build checklist
- Confirm that the project is for Zoroark, not an unevolved Zorua raid investment.
- Appraise several Zorua candidates before choosing one.
- Reserve 50 Zorua Candy for the selected evolution.
- Evolve first, then verify the resulting Zoroark’s attacks.
- Set Snarl as the Fast Attack and Foul Play as the Charged Attack for the standard Dark raid build.
- Use Zoroark primarily against Psychic- or Ghost-focused raid situations.
- Check for Bug, Fairy or Fighting attacks before entering.
- Compare your Zoroark’s role with the Dark attackers already in your storage.
- Power up gradually and stop when the next investment no longer improves your roster enough to justify its cost.
- Remember that modeled DPS and TDO are snapshots, not guaranteed raid outcomes.
Final decision: who should build Zoroark?
Build Zoroark if you need an accessible Dark attacker, enjoy the Pokémon, or want another usable team member for Psychic- and Ghost-oriented raids. The correct finished build is straightforward: evolve a selected Zorua for 50 Candy and run Snarl with Foul Play. Its 250 Attack and 2,907 maximum listed CP at level 50 give it legitimate offensive potential.
Keep the investment measured. Zoroark’s 127 Defense and 155 HP leave it fragile, and the cited 14.33 DPS/181.2 TDO benchmark trails the stronger Dark attackers in the same comparison. As Raj1729 wrote in Pokémon GO Hub’s October 8, 2026 guide, “Zoroark is not a top-tier Pokémon GO PvE investment, but it is far from a bad one.” That is the useful middle ground: a competent, matchup-dependent budget pick rather than a reason to rebuild an established raid roster.
