Eternal Anima is Marvelous’s new time-traveling Japanese RPG, scheduled for March 4, 2027, on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam. Its defining ideas are playable history, a memory-reading power called Psychometry and turn-based battles shaped by enemy-move prediction.
What is Eternal Anima?
Previously shown under the working title PROJECT LIFE is RPG, Eternal Anima follows Wade, a young man from the floating kingdom of Urvis Ael. Urvis Ael is described as the last bastion in a world consumed by an endless sea. When Wade challenges a prohibition on progress, he is branded a heretic and forced toward the Forbidden Seas.

The journey crosses the past and present of four lost continents and multiple cultures. Rather than treating time travel as a story-only device, Marvelous makes it the structure connecting exploration, character growth and combat. The announcement’s central promise is: “To free the present, one must save the past…”
Release date and platforms
Marvelous announced Eternal Anima in September 2026 and set a worldwide release for March 4, 2027.

How time travel works in the game
Past actions change the present
Wade travels between earlier eras and the present, meeting ancestors and descendants along the way. The practical consequence is that decisions made in the past can alter conditions in the present. The announced design therefore asks you to treat historical exploration as problem-solving: an obstacle in one era may depend on what you changed in another.
Generational teams and inherited knowledge
The game’s cast is built around links between generations. Wade does not simply visit historical scenes; he works with people connected by ancestry and inheritance. That setup gives the time jumps a human stake and lets discoveries echo through the world rather than ending when an individual chapter closes.

Psychometry turns objects into progression
Psychometry lets Wade read memories embedded in objects. These visions provide context about people and places, but the ability also affects his build. By examining artifacts, Wade can inherit abilities and classes associated with heroes from the past.
That makes an object more than a collectible or lore entry. A relic can reveal why an event happened and expand Wade’s combat options at the same time. The announced system links investigation directly to progression: players who search for meaningful artifacts may gain tools that change how they approach later encounters.
Future Sight: turn-based combat with prediction
Eternal Anima remains a turn-based RPG, but its command menu includes a tactical layer called Future Sight. Wade can predict upcoming enemy actions, then select commands that delay or cancel moves. Instead of merely choosing the strongest attack for the current turn, you can inspect the sequence ahead and decide which action should be interrupted, postponed or allowed to resolve.

What a battle decision looks like
- Read the upcoming action sequence shown by Future Sight.
- Identify an attack or effect that would create the greatest danger if it lands.
- Choose a command that delays or cancels that move, when your available abilities permit it.
- Use the remaining turns to deal damage, defend or prepare for the revised sequence.
This is a prediction problem layered over traditional turn selection. The system could make speed, timing and disruption as important as raw damage, although final balance, encounter variety and the full list of combat commands have not been disclosed.

Why the design is distinctive
Eternal Anima combines four time-RPG questions in one framework: how much history the player can change, whether time discoveries alter character builds, how directly predictions affect individual turns and how the playable cast is organized. The first three are confirmed by Marvelous’s descriptions. The scope of party customization and the complete roster structure remain unannounced, so it is too early to characterize the game as either a fixed-party adventure or a fully customizable party RPG.
The result is a promising connection between narrative inheritance and mechanics. Saving the past is not only a plot objective; it can determine which classes and abilities Wade carries into the future, while Future Sight makes the immediate future something the player can manipulate inside each fight.

The creators and the game’s 1990s-inspired position
Marvelous says Eternal Anima draws inspiration from the golden era of late-1990s and early-2000s JRPGs, pairing that influence with modern visuals and tactical systems. The announced leadership includes:
- Katsuhisa Higuchi — director
- Keisuke Makino — story concept writer
- Kazushige Nojima — scenario writer
Those credits will interest players who value authored world-building and long-form RPG storytelling. They establish the project’s pedigree, not its finished quality: release-day performance, pacing and combat balance cannot be judged until the game is available.
Which physical edition should you preorder?
Marvelous USA lists standard and limited physical editions for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. The listed prices are publisher prices for 2026 and may vary by retailer, tax and region.

The publisher store lists the overall physical range as $49.99–$89.99 and a March 4, 2027 release. Choose the standard edition if you only want the game. The limited edition costs $30 more on either listed platform and is aimed at collectors who value the soundtrack, cards, stand and art book. Check live inventory and regional preorder eligibility before purchasing; those details can change.
What is still unknown
- The full party roster and the extent of character customization.
- The number and structure of playable eras beyond the announced past-and-present framework.
- How many historical changes persist permanently and how many are localized to quests.
- Final combat balance, performance and technical quality.
- Any differences between physical and digital releases or platform-specific features.
For now, Eternal Anima is best understood as an announced concept with unusually integrated time mechanics, not as a proven finished RPG. Its March 4, 2027 launch will determine whether Psychometry and Future Sight support a consistently satisfying adventure.
