Build the LEGO Technic Peugeot 9X8 by following the numbered official instructions for set 42156, checking the moving drivetrain and steering as the model takes shape, then completing the bodywork and display checks. The set has 1,775 pieces; LEGO’s official instruction page provides a downloadable PDF, and the optional LEGO Builder app can show the model in 3D.
Identify the set and get the correct instructions
The model is LEGO Technic PEUGEOT 9X8 24H Le Mans Hybrid Hypercar, set 42156. LEGO lists it as a 2023 set for builders aged 18 and up, with 1,775 pieces. Use the official LEGO instruction page for set 42156 to download the PDF manual; matching the set number matters because other Technic race cars can look similar but have different parts and assembly sequences.

The set was released in connection with the centenary of the Le Mans 24-hour race. LEGO’s June 2023 announcement gave launch-era prices of €199.99, US$199.99 and £169.99. Those are historical release prices, not current market valuations. LEGO’s UK product page labels 42156 a “Retired product”; that describes the UK storefront status and does not establish availability or price in other regions or from other sellers.
Prepare before you start building
Set up the parts and workspace
- Download or open the instructions for set 42156 before beginning. Keep the set number visible so you can confirm you have the right manual.
- Choose a stable, well-lit surface with enough room to lay out parts and turn the growing car. The completed model is about 50 cm long, so leave additional working space around it.
- Sort pieces in a way that helps you find them while following the manual. If the set is second-hand, check that the parts and instructions are accounted for; a visual inspection alone cannot establish that every small component is present.
- Use the numbered steps in order. The official sources do not specify a required separate tool, build duration or step-by-step difficulty rating, so there is no verified need to buy an accessory or plan around a particular time estimate.
Choose paper/PDF or the optional app
The PDF is the direct route to the official instructions. Alternatively, LEGO says its Builder app can organize instructions, zoom and rotate the model in 3D, save sets and track progress. The app is an optional aid, not a requirement; use whichever format makes it easiest to inspect each step and match parts accurately.

Build the chassis and check the moving functions
Work through the manual’s numbered sequence rather than trying to assemble the car by appearance. Technic models depend on the placement and orientation of connected parts, and an error buried in an early assembly can make a later section harder to fit. When a part does not sit as shown, compare the assembly with the current illustration and revisit the immediately preceding steps before forcing it into place.
Follow the drivetrain assembly carefully
LEGO describes a model V6 piston engine connected to the rear wheels, alongside a model electric motor and battery. These are features represented in the LEGO build; they should not be read as a complete account of the real race car’s engineering. As the manual adds moving components, check that the pieces are aligned as illustrated and that the mechanism moves gently where the instructions indicate it should. Do not force a stiff mechanism: recheck the placement and orientation of the parts you have just assembled.

Check steering and suspension as you go
The model includes front and rear suspension. Its steering can be operated either by the steering wheel or by a gear wheel on top of the car. Follow the manual’s assembly sequence for these linkages, then test the steering gently once the relevant components are connected. If the steering wheel and top gear do not produce the expected movement, check the linkage against the instructions before continuing to cover it with bodywork.

1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThese checks are general building practice, not a claim about a tested set-specific failure or repair. LEGO’s published feature list identifies the functions but does not provide troubleshooting steps for particular assembly errors.

Add the bodywork, doors and livery
After the underlying structure and moving features are assembled according to the manual, continue with the exterior panels and finishing details in the order shown. The model has opening doors, livery graphics, and PEUGEOT and sponsor logos. Align each panel and graphic with its instruction illustration; taking time at this stage helps preserve the intended shape and appearance without putting pressure on the mechanisms underneath.
LEGO also lists Technic light elements that glow in the dark. Treat these as model features and follow the official instructions for their placement. The published feature description does not establish a separate lighting setup procedure or additional accessories.

- Turn the steering with the steering wheel and with the gear wheel on top, checking that each operates the model steering as intended.
- Move the car carefully on a suitable surface to observe the rear-wheel connection to the modeled V6 piston engine. Avoid forcing the wheels or mechanism if movement feels obstructed.
- Place the model on a level display surface with enough clearance for its length and width.
LEGO gives the finished model’s dimensions as over 13 cm high, 50 cm long and 22 cm wide. Allow roughly 50 cm of shelf length, plus some room to reach the doors and steering control. The height is stated as “over 13 cm,” not an exact measurement.

Finding a set if you do not already own it
Because LEGO’s UK page marks the set as retired, anyone seeking a copy may need to consider availability beyond that storefront. Marketplace listings can vary, so check the seller, box and parts condition, completeness, regional price and return terms before buying. A listing for the set is not proof that it is complete or that its price reflects the original launch price. The official instruction PDF is listed separately from the UK product status.

What the age rating and available build information mean
LEGO’s 18+ label is the set’s published audience rating. It is not an independently measured difficulty score, a guarantee of build time or evidence that the model requires specialist tools. The official sources establish the piece count and feature list, but not a tested completion time or specific problem points. For those reasons, the most dependable approach is to build from the numbered instructions, inspect connections carefully and check the functions gently as they are assembled.
