How to Cancel an Xbox Preorder

To cancel a digital Xbox game or app preorder, sign in to the Microsoft account used to place it, open Order history, find the preorder, and choose Cancel or Cancel item. If that option is gone because the order has been billed, request a refund through the Xbox order-history refund flow instead.

Cancel the preorder from Microsoft Order history

1. Open Microsoft Order history and sign in with the Microsoft account that placed the preorder.
2. Find the preorder and check its order details and status.
3. Select Cancel or Cancel item, then follow the prompts to confirm.
4. Look for a cancellation confirmation in the email associated with the account. If it does not arrive, check your spam or junk folder.

What to do if you cannot find the cancel option

The cancellation control may no longer appear after Microsoft bills the preorder. For a digital Xbox game or app, use the refund request route available from Order history or Xbox support rather than assuming the order can still be canceled through the same control. How preorder billing affects cancellation

When you pay with Microsoft account balance, Microsoft charges you immediately. With other payment methods, including a backup payment method, Microsoft may charge you up to 10 days before release; that is a possible billing window, not a promise that every card is charged exactly 10 days ahead.

3. Select another payment method or add one, then follow the prompts.
