Canceling PlayStation Plus stops its next renewal; it does not normally cut off benefits immediately. You can use them through the end of the paid period shown in your account. After that, monthly games claimed through Plus and other subscription benefits become unavailable, while games you bought—even at a Plus discount—and redeemed packs or avatars remain yours.

After canceling, open Subscription in Account Management and check the next payment or expiration date displayed for your account. Benefits continue until the end of the subscription payment period already purchased. Sony says you can choose Reactivate Subscription before the next payment date if you change your mind. See PlayStation’s cancellation instructions.

Canceling stops future recurring charges; it is not itself a refund. Sony’s US terms say payments already made are not refunded under those terms, subject to applicable local purchase-cancellation rights. For a refund question, check the refund policy or support route for your region rather than assuming that canceling renewal returns a payment. A trial may convert to a paid subscription; cancel before it ends to stop renewal, and benefits continue through the trial’s last day. These terms are described in Sony Interactive Entertainment’s US PS Plus Usage Terms.
What happens to games and benefits after Plus ends?
The key distinction is whether access comes from a subscription or from a purchase. Downloading a game does not by itself make a subscription entitlement permanent.

| Access type | After membership ends | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly games claimed through Plus | Unavailable to play without an active membership; adding or downloading one does not turn it into a permanent purchase. | Membership status and its end date. |
| Game Catalog and Classics Catalog | Access requires a tier that includes the relevant catalog. A title can also leave the service; under Sony’s US terms, downloaded catalog games require a valid subscription and continued availability in the service. | Your tier and whether the game remains in the catalog. Sony’s games and catalog page notes that some games have an end date. |
| Game purchased at a Plus discount | Remains yours as a purchase. | That you completed a purchase rather than only claiming a monthly game. |
| Redeemed Plus packs and avatars | Remain yours. | No additional subscription check is needed for these retained items. |
| Online storage, multiplayer, and other Plus benefits | Subscription benefits end with the membership. | For multiplayer, check the game’s Store listing: most PS4 and PS5 multiplayer requires Plus, but some games do not. |
PlayStation’s Plus support page describes membership benefits, including online storage and multiplayer. Services and features can vary by country or region, so consult your local PlayStation account and support pages.

Keep track of access before you cancel
- Note the expiration date shown in Account Management; cancellation does not normally remove paid-period access that day.
- Sort games by how you obtained them: monthly claim, catalog access, or separate purchase. These have different rules when Plus ends.
- For catalog games, check both whether your tier includes the catalog and whether the specific title is still available in the service.
- For multiplayer, verify the requirement for the individual game rather than assuming Plus is required for every title.
