How to Cancel Xbox Game Pass and Stop the Next Renewal Charge

To stop Xbox Game Pass from charging you again, sign in to the Microsoft account that owns the subscription at Services & subscriptions, open Game Pass, select Manage, and complete the option to turn off recurring billing or cancel. Then check the subscription details for its status and end date.

How do I cancel Xbox Game Pass?

1. Go to account.microsoft.com/services and sign in with the Microsoft account used to buy Game Pass.
2. Find the Game Pass subscription and select Manage.
3. Follow the option shown to turn off recurring billing or cancel, then confirm the choice in the displayed flow.
4. Return to the subscription details and check the status and end date.

Microsoft says that turning off recurring billing prevents future charges while leaving the subscription usable until its expiry date. Microsoft Helps’ Xbox cancellation video, published November 13, 2020, puts it this way: “With recurring billing turned off, your subscription will expire when you’ve used up all the remaining time you’ve prepaid.” The account page is the best place to confirm the status currently applied to your subscription.

How do I confirm Game Pass will not renew?

Check the subscription’s details after completing the cancellation flow. If the control says Turn on recurring billing, recurring billing is already off; the subscription should expire on the displayed date rather than renew. If the option to turn recurring billing off is absent, read the displayed status instead of assuming that you need to submit another cancellation.

What if Game Pass does not appear in my Microsoft account?

First check that you signed in with the Microsoft account used for the purchase. If the subscription was bought through Apple App Store or Google Play, Microsoft directs customers to contact the relevant store for cancellation or refund. For a retailer or another billing partner, identify the provider shown for the subscription and use that provider’s management route.

Does canceling Game Pass refund a payment?

Turning off recurring billing stops future renewals; it does not by itself guarantee a refund for a payment already made. Microsoft’s cancellation flow may offer an immediate end-and-refund option, but availability depends on the options and eligibility shown for that account and purchase.
