How to catch Chirurgeon
- Travel to The Vein in Central Shroud, near X:22, Y:21.
- Fish with Moth Pupa until you catch a Striped Goby. Crayfish and Eunuch Crayfish can also bite on this bait, so you may need to keep fishing. The community fishing guide also notes Surface Slap as an option for filtering competing catches when you have it unlocked.
- Use Mooch on the Striped Goby. The standard Mooch action needs a suitable fish size. The guide says Mooch II can handle a normal-sized specimen, while Prize Catch can guarantee a large catch when available.
- Watch for Chirurgeon’s rare !!! bite and reel it in. If the Minimog objective is active, check your challenge progress afterward.
Conditions and Gathering requirement
Chirurgeon is reported to be available at any time and in all weather, so no particular window is required. The fishing-log entry lists 301+ Gathering, and an old official forum thread also lists 301+. A player report in search results gives a different threshold of 290, so the available sources do not resolve that discrepancy. If the fish gets away, check the current in-game fishing log for your eligibility.

Is Chirurgeon currently a Minimog Challenge objective?
Historical Moogle Treasure Trove references list catching Chirurgeon as a Week 1 Minimog option, and the community fish entry describes it as an objective from the first week before Patch 7.3. Those references do not confirm that it is part of the active event rotation now. Check the current in-game challenge list before fishing specifically for event credit.
