To build a sub-fief in Dune: Awakening, research and equip a Construction Tool, place a Sub-Fief Console, build a roofed shelter around it, then power its shield with Fuel Cells in a Fuel-Powered Generator. The Shelter and Shields Journey provides a practical starter sequence; its listed structure count is one example, not the only valid layout.
What you need to start a sub-fief
The Sub-Fief Console establishes your land claim: it marks the area where you can build. The Shelter and Shields Journey guides you through gathering Granite Stone, Salvaged Metal, and Fuel Cells, researching the Basic Construction Kit, and crafting and equipping a Construction Tool. The Journey is transcribed by the Dune: Awakening Community Wiki.

For the console recipe, the Dune Awakening Database lists 25 Salvaged Metal for the basic Sub-Fief Console in version 1.5.3.6, with the entry last updated October 6, 2026. It is a fan reference, so check the in-game recipe if your game is on a different patch: Sub-Fief Console recipe.

- Research the Basic Construction Kit. Use the Research Menu as directed by the Shelter and Shields Journey.
- Craft and equip a Construction Tool. You need it to place the console and construct the shelter.
- Place the Sub-Fief Console. Use the Construction Tool to put it where you want your claim and base. The Journey calls this “place out a sub-fief console.”
- Build a shelter around the console. The Journey’s example calls for four foundations, seven walls, one door, and four roof pieces. Treat those counts as the Journey’s sample structure, not a required or exclusive blueprint.
- Move the console under the roof. After roofing, the Journey instructs you to use the Construction Tool to move the console to a sheltered location.
- Add storage and power. Construct or interact with a Small Storage Container and a Fuel-Powered Generator, then put Fuel Cells in the generator to power the base shield.
The Journey’s Zantara dialogue warns against building on open sand and ties shelter, a fueled generator, and water discipline to surviving the desert. Its practical point is straightforward: place the console inside a roofed base and keep the generator supplied with Fuel Cells. The Journey does not establish a single mandatory base layout beyond its stated example.

Basic or Advanced Sub-Fief Console?
The basic console is the straightforward choice for establishing a claim. The database describes the Advanced Sub-Fief Console as claiming a larger build area that can be expanded with staking units, but the available record is older than the basic-console entry.
| Console | What the reference says | Recipe record |
|---|---|---|
| Basic Sub-Fief Console | Claims land for building; its shield protects the base when powered by a nearby generator. | 25 Salvaged Metal; version 1.5.3.6, updated October 6, 2026. Fan database entry. |
| Advanced Sub-Fief Console | Described as claiming a larger area that can be expanded with staking units. Exact current dimensions and expansion limits are not established by the cited entry. | 40 Salvaged Metal in a version 1.5.3.3 record updated September 24, 2026. Confirm the current recipe in-game. Fan database entry. |
Choose based on whether the basic claim suits your build or you need the advanced console’s described expandable area. Do not rely on the older advanced recipe as current without checking the game. The cited sources do not establish current claim dimensions, expansion limits, tax amounts, or whether all older advanced-console details still apply.

Back up or move a base
For moving an established base, Funcom’s Base Reconstruction Tool Guide explains the backup and restoration process. The tool unlocks in the Iron Tier of the Research Menu’s Construction tab and can be crafted in a Fabricator or Survival Fabricator.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

- To restore it, choose Place Blueprint, select a location, and position the adjusted hologram.
The tool can store up to three bases. After storing and placing a given base, you must wait seven days before using that same base again. For a backup to work, a foundation must be beneath the Sub-Fief Console and every buildable must remain within the console’s limits.
Where restoration works—and what can block it
- Backup and restoration are limited to Hagga Basin.
- A restored base cannot overlap another land claim or a no-building zone. Bases with Advanced Sub-Fief Consoles cannot be restored in Hagga Basin South.
- Restoration fails if another player is standing in the intended land claim or a vehicle overlaps the base.
- Assembled vehicles, certain cargo containers, unfinished vehicles, and additional permissions are not stored.
Check the destination and clear the placement area before restoring; these restrictions can prevent an otherwise valid blueprint from being placed.
