Change V Rising’s Blood Moon schedule with BloodMoonFrequency_Min and BloodMoonFrequency_Max, then adjust BloodMoonBuff for strength. Stop the server before editing, use your host’s custom settings or ServerGameSettings file, save, restart, and test in-game. The setting names are consistent across the guides reviewed, but menu labels and behavior can vary by game version because the available documentation is secondary-sourced.

What the three Blood Moon settings do
V Rising exposes separate controls for how often a Blood Moon can occur and how strong its associated buff is. Frequency is controlled by a minimum and maximum interval; buff strength is controlled by one numeric value.

BloodMoonFrequency_Min |
Lower bound for the number of in-game days between Blood Moons. | Citadel reports an allowed range of 1 to 255. Player discussions commonly describe 10 as the default. | The 1–255 range comes from a hosting guide; the default is not confirmed by an official current file. |
BloodMoonFrequency_Max |
Upper bound for the interval between Blood Moons. | Citadel reports an allowed range of 1 to 255. Player discussions commonly describe 18 as the default. | The exact scheduling algorithm is disputed. Some players interpret this as the point at which the game forces a Blood Moon. |
BloodMoonBuff |
Controls the magnitude of the Blood Moon buff. | Citadel lists 0.1 to 5.0. A player-posted configuration lists 0.2 as a default. | G-Portal describes the value as a percentage increase, while other guides do not define the unit clearly. Treat the unit as version-sensitive. |
These keys are case-sensitive in text configuration files. Copy the spelling exactly, including capital letters and underscores. A control panel may display a friendlier label, but the underlying key remains the useful reference when you need to compare settings across hosts.
How the Blood Moon frequency range works
Minimum and maximum days
The commonly reported interpretation is that the game chooses an interval between the minimum and maximum values. For example, setting BloodMoonFrequency_Min to 2 and BloodMoonFrequency_Max to 3 is described as producing a Blood Moon every two to three in-game days.

A different reading appears in player discussions: the minimum may be the shortest gap during which another Blood Moon is allowed, while the maximum may be the point at which the game waits no longer and triggers one. No official reference in the available material resolves that distinction. For practical planning, treat the two numbers as a lower and upper bound rather than promising an exact day.
Choosing a range
- Use a narrow range when you want a predictable rhythm. Setting both values close together reduces variation, although the game’s exact handling of equal values is not documented here.
- Use a wider range when you want Blood Moons to feel less scheduled. The interval can vary substantially when the minimum and maximum are far apart.
- Keep the minimum at or below the maximum. Reversing the bounds is not described by the available guides and can leave the server with undefined behavior or a rejected value.
- Change one concept at a time. Adjust frequency first, confirm that events still occur, and only then tune the buff. This makes it easier to identify which edit caused an unexpected result.
Reported defaults
Player discussions commonly cite 10 for the minimum and 18 for the maximum, interpreted as a Blood Moon every 10–18 in-game days. Those figures are not confirmed against a current official configuration file, so use them as a comparison point rather than a guaranteed baseline for every edition or world.

BloodMoonBuff is the strength control. Citadel’s guide lists values from 0.1 through 5.0. G-Portal describes the setting as a percentage increase, but the available guides do not agree on how the number maps to an in-game percentage. A player-posted configuration lists 0.2 as a default, yet that value has not been verified against a current official file.
Because the unit is disputed, do not assume that changing 0.2 to 0.4 necessarily means “twice the visible percentage” or that entering 20 means 20 percent. Stay within the documented 0.1–5.0 range where the host accepts that range, make a small change, and observe the result in your own world. Record the old value so you can restore it if the buff becomes unexpectedly strong or appears to vanish.

Some panels may show a slider, a decimal field, or a percentage-looking label. Read the label supplied by the panel, but verify the actual stored number when possible. If the panel and the file appear to use different scales, do not convert values by guesswork; ask the host which representation its current V Rising template expects.
Before editing: protect the world and avoid overwritten changes
- Tell players about the restart. A configuration edit requires the server to be stopped and started again. Do not edit while the world is writing a save.
- Stop the server completely. The hosting instructions reviewed for this topic all place stopping before editing. Wait until the panel reports that the process is offline.
- Back up the current configuration and world. Keep a copy of the existing settings, especially if you are editing a text file. The backup gives you a known rollback point when a value is rejected or a world behaves differently after restart.
- Note the current values. Write down all three keys, not just the one you intend to change. A control-panel preset can rewrite values when it is selected or saved.
- Check the game version and host template. Several guides are older, and file names or labels can differ in a newer release. Use the labels presented by your current panel rather than blindly following an old screenshot.
Change the settings on a hosted server
Shockbyte control panel
The Shockbyte procedure documented for V Rising requires the custom settings preset before the individual Blood Moon fields become editable.
- Stop the V Rising server and wait for the offline status.
- Open the server’s game-settings area in the control panel.
- Select the Custom game settings preset. If you leave a standard preset selected, your manual values may not be exposed or may be replaced when the panel saves.
- Locate the Blood Moon frequency and buff fields. Enter the desired values for
BloodMoonFrequency_Min,BloodMoonFrequency_Max, andBloodMoonBuff. - Save the settings while the server remains stopped.
- Start the server, wait for it to finish loading, and join the world to test the schedule and buff.
The exact location of the fields can change with the panel template. If you cannot find the three keys after choosing the custom preset, check whether the panel has a separate advanced or raw-settings view rather than creating a differently named key.
G-Portal control panel
G-Portal places the relevant controls under Basic settings in the V Rising server configuration.

- Stop the server from the G-Portal panel.
- Open the V Rising configuration and enter Basic settings.
- Find the Blood Moon frequency minimum, frequency maximum, and buff-strength controls.
- Enter the numbers you want, respecting the range shown by the panel. Citadel’s documented 1–255 frequency range and 0.1–5.0 buff range are useful reference points, but the panel’s current validation is the authority for the installed template.
- Save the configuration.
- Start the server and test after the world is online.
If G-Portal displays the buff as a percentage, remember that other documentation disputes the exact unit. Treat the displayed label as a description of the panel’s implementation, not proof that every V Rising version uses the same conversion.
Citadel Servers and the ServerGameSettings file
Citadel’s instructions place the values in the ServerGameSettings file. The panel may provide an editor for that file rather than separate sliders.
- Stop the server.
- Open the V Rising files or configuration editor and select the
ServerGameSettingsfile. - Find the existing Blood Moon entries. Edit the values in place instead of adding a second copy of the same key.
- Set
BloodMoonFrequency_Min,BloodMoonFrequency_Max, and, if desired,BloodMoonBuff. Use numeric values only in the field’s expected format. - Save the file, close the editor, and confirm that the saved content still contains your values.
- Start the server and join after it has completed its startup process.
Citadel reports a frequency range of 1–255 and a buff range of 0.1–5.0. If the current editor rejects a value inside those ranges, rely on the validation message and the host’s current template; an older guide may describe a different schema.
Other hosts and self-hosted servers
Not every provider uses the same menu names. Look for a V Rising custom-settings page, an advanced settings editor, or the server’s ServerGameSettings file. The safe sequence remains the same: stop, back up, edit the three exact keys, save, start, and verify. Do not assume that a field called “red moon,” “moon event,” or “blood moon strength” uses the same scale until the host identifies the underlying key.

For a self-hosted installation, use the configuration file supplied by that installation rather than copying a path from a hosting guide. File locations vary with the operating system, installation method, and whether the server was migrated from an older version. The setting names are more reliable than an assumed directory path.

Apply and verify a change
Confirm that the server loaded the edit
- After restarting, reopen the panel or file editor and check that the values are still present. If they reverted, a preset, startup script, or save operation overwrote them.
- Join the world and note the current in-game day. A frequency change is measured in in-game days, not real-time days.
- Observe enough of the cycle to distinguish a schedule change from a single delayed event. A minimum/maximum range does not guarantee an event on one exact day.
- Test the buff separately from the schedule. If you changed both at once and the result is unexpected, restore the backup and repeat with only one variable changed.
Use a written change log
For a shared server, record the date, game version, old values, new values, and who made the change. This is particularly useful for BloodMoonBuff, whose units are described inconsistently. A short log prevents players from mistaking a deliberate schedule change for a server bug and makes rollback immediate.
Troubleshooting when the change does not work
The panel will not accept the value
- Check that both frequency fields contain numbers and that the minimum is not greater than the maximum.
- For frequency, compare the entry with the 1–255 range reported by Citadel.
- For buff strength, compare the entry with the 0.1–5.0 range reported by Citadel.
- Remove extra symbols such as a percent sign if the field expects a plain number.
- Confirm that you edited the custom configuration rather than a read-only preset.
The values save but revert after restart
Stop the server again, select the custom game-settings mode where the host provides one, and inspect the stored file or panel values before starting. A preset can repopulate defaults during startup. Keep a backup of the edited file and check whether the host offers separate “save” and “apply” buttons.
The schedule appears unchanged
First verify that the server actually loaded the new values. Then allow for the interval interpretation: changing a 10–18-day range does not necessarily trigger a Blood Moon immediately, and the event may already be in a cycle established before the restart. If the host reports that the setting applies only to newly created worlds, test a disposable new world before risking the main save. That limitation has been reported by a player but is not confirmed as a general rule.

- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.
- Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
Blood Moons stop appearing
One player has reported that any non-default setting removed the Blood Moon entirely. This is an anecdote, not a confirmed general bug, but it is a useful rollback test. Restore the backed-up values, restart, and check whether the event returns. If it does, reapply one setting at a time and report the exact game version, host, values, and world age to the host or developer.
The buff looks weaker or stronger than expected
Do not infer a percentage conversion from the number alone. The guides disagree about the units. Restore the previous value, then make a small change within the accepted range and compare the in-game result under similar conditions. If the panel’s displayed percentage conflicts with the file’s decimal, ask the host which scale its current template uses.
The names in your panel do not match these names
Several guides are old, so labels and file names may have changed. Use the panel’s search function for “Blood Moon” or inspect the raw configuration for the exact keys. Avoid adding a second, near-identical key with different capitalization; an unrecognized key may simply be ignored.
Practical setting examples
| Goal | Frequency approach | Buff approach | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Keep the event rare and variable | Use a relatively wide minimum-to-maximum range, such as the commonly cited 10–18 baseline if you are restoring that behavior. | Leave the existing buff value unchanged while testing frequency. | Confirm that the server retained both frequency numbers after restart. |
| Make events arrive sooner | Lower both frequency bounds while keeping the minimum no higher than the maximum. | Change only if the schedule test succeeds. | Count in-game days rather than real-time days. |
| Test a predictable short cycle | The frequently cited example of 2–3 days creates a short, easy-to-observe test window. | Use the previous buff value so the test measures timing only. | Watch more than one cycle before deciding that the setting failed. |
| Increase or reduce event strength | Leave both frequency fields unchanged. | Adjust BloodMoonBuff in a small step within the host’s accepted range. |
Compare results under similar conditions because the unit is disputed. |
Version and evidence limits
The setting names, ranges, and procedures above come from hosting-provider guides and Steam community discussions rather than an official Stunlock Studios configuration reference. The guides do not all define the buff unit the same way, and some are older than the current game version. Treat the host panel’s validation, the values actually saved in your configuration, and your post-restart test as the final checks.
Defaults of 10 and 18 for frequency and 0.2 for the buff are player-reported values, not guaranteed defaults for every server build. The reported 1–255 and 0.1–5.0 ranges likewise describe what a hosting guide accepts; a different version or host template may enforce another limit. When documentation and behavior conflict, preserve the original file, record the exact version, and roll back before experimenting further.
