Use GTA 5’s camera-cycle control to switch between available views. To find the right button or key for your platform and control scheme, pause the game and open Settings → Controls; the binding can vary by edition or remapping. For separate preferred views on foot and in vehicles, enable Allow Independent Camera Modes under Settings → Display.
Change your camera view
- Pause the game. Rockstar says you can open settings from Story Mode or GTA Online.
- Choose Settings → Controls and find the camera-cycle control for your connected input device. Check any custom bindings rather than relying on a button listed for another platform or edition.
- Use that control during play to cycle through the available camera views.
Rockstar’s settings guide identifies camera and display as settings categories, but the official sources do not provide a readable, dependable universal camera-toggle input for every current platform and control scheme. See Rockstar’s GTAV settings instructions for the menu route.

Keep different views for walking and driving
Open Settings → Display and turn on Allow Independent Camera Modes. Then select the view you prefer on foot and in a vehicle; the game can keep those choices independently. The option is documented in Rockstar’s camera guidance for GTAV and the Xbox One game help.
Adjust first-person settings for comfort
If you prefer first person, check the local Camera or Controls settings for options such as on-foot field of view and head bobbing. The documented Xbox One help also describes settings related to first-person cover, combat rolls, and ragdoll behavior. The exact options and labels depend on the game edition and platform.

First-person mode is documented for the PS4 release in both GTAV and GTA Online in Rockstar’s 2014 PlayStation Blog announcement. That historical announcement should not be taken as a feature list for every legacy release. Choose first or third person according to your preference for field of view and head movement; neither is a measured gameplay advantage.
