The quickest way to change DPI on a Logitech G502 is to open Logitech G HUB, select your mouse, open Sensitivity (DPI), and choose a DPI value or preset. You can add multiple DPI stages, assign a default value, and configure a temporary DPI Shift setting. The G502’s physical buttons can then switch between those stages. If you want the setting to work without G HUB, save it to the mouse’s onboard memory when your model supports that feature.

These instructions cover the G502 HERO, G502 LIGHTSPEED, G502 X, G502 X LIGHTSPEED, and G502 X PLUS. Menus, button layouts, default values, and onboard-memory limits vary between generations.

What you need before changing DPI

  • A powered G502 connected by USB, or a wireless G502 connected through its receiver or supplied cable.
  • Logitech G HUB installed on Windows or macOS. Download it from Logitech’s official G HUB page.
  • The correct G502 profile selected if you have more than one Logitech device or application profile.

How to change DPI on a Logitech G502 in G HUB

  1. Connect and power on the mouse. For a wireless model, make sure its receiver is connected and the power switch is on.
  2. Open Logitech G HUB from your Windows or macOS application menu.
  3. Select your G502 from the device tiles on the G HUB home screen.
  4. Open Sensitivity (DPI). Depending on your G HUB version and mouse model, the control may use slightly different sensitivity or DPI wording.
  5. Set the DPI value. Drag the marker on the sensitivity slider, choose a preset, or edit the displayed value if your version of G HUB allows direct editing. Logitech’s current instructions describe changing pointer speed with a slider or preset DPI value; the exact interface can change between versions. See Logitech’s G HUB pointer-speed guide.
  6. Add more DPI stages if needed. Click another point on the DPI slider to create an additional speed. Logitech documents up to five DPI speeds in the relevant G HUB configuration. To remove a stage, drag its marker away from the slider. The DPI Shift value cannot be removed in the same way. More stages are useful only if you genuinely need them; one or two consistent values are easier to manage.
  7. Choose the default DPI. Set the stage you want active during normal use as the default or persistent DPI. Do not assume that the first or highest value in the list is currently active.
  8. Configure DPI Shift if useful. DPI Shift is a separate sensitivity value that is normally used temporarily while its assigned button is held. A lower value can help with precise aiming or detailed work, while a higher value can speed up desktop navigation.
  9. Test the result. Move the mouse across the desktop, press the configured DPI controls, hold DPI Shift, and test the result in the game or application where you noticed the problem.

For details on creating and removing DPI stages, see Logitech’s official G HUB instructions.

How to change DPI with the G502’s physical buttons

The mouse buttons generally do not set an arbitrary DPI number by themselves. They switch among the DPI stages configured in G HUB or stored in onboard memory.

  • DPI Up and DPI Down: Move through the configured stages one step at a time when those functions are assigned.
  • DPI Cycle: Cycles through the available DPI stages.
  • DPI Shift: Temporarily applies a separate sensitivity value while held, then returns to the previous stage when released in the documented configuration.
  • Default DPI: On some older configurations, returns to the assigned default stage.

The original G502 layout and the G502 X layout are not identical. G502 X models use a redesigned, reversible or removable DPI Shift button cover, so diagrams for the older G502 should not be treated as universal. You can change any button’s assignment in G HUB, which means a button that used to change DPI may have been assigned another function.

How to save DPI settings to onboard memory

There are two different ways G HUB can apply settings:

  • Software or profile mode: G HUB applies settings from the active desktop or game profile. This allows different games to use different DPI values, but profile switching can make the mouse feel different.
  • Onboard Memory Mode: G HUB writes supported settings to the mouse. Those settings can travel with the device and work on another compatible computer without G HUB running.

To save a DPI configuration:

  1. Open the G502 in G HUB.
  2. Find Onboard Memory or Onboard Memory Mode. The location and label vary by model and firmware.
  3. Enable onboard memory and select the profile you want to edit.
  4. Configure the DPI stages, default DPI, button assignments, and DPI Shift value.
  5. Save or apply the profile to the mouse.
  6. Close G HUB, disconnect and reconnect the mouse, or test it on another computer to verify that the DPI remains correct.

Onboard-memory behavior is model-specific. Logitech says G502 X models have two default onboard profiles and can provide up to five profiles with G HUB; installing G HUB overrides the two default profiles. Older G502 documentation describes different limits and controls. See Logitech’s G502 X onboard-memory guide and its older G502 onboard-memory instructions.

What DPI should you use?

There is no universally correct DPI setting. Logitech also advises choosing a value based on personal preference and use case rather than treating one number as best.

As practical starting points, try:

  • General desktop use: 800–1600 DPI.
  • Precision aiming: A lower DPI combined with larger physical mouse movements may feel easier to control for some players.
  • High-resolution displays or fast navigation: A higher DPI may feel more convenient.
  • DPI Shift: A lower temporary value can help with precision aiming, image editing, or other detailed work.

DPI is only one part of sensitivity. The final feel also depends on Windows pointer speed, Windows mouse acceleration, and the game’s sensitivity setting. Change one variable at a time so you can tell what improved or worsened the result. DPI changes sensitivity; they do not automatically make the mouse or player more accurate.

G502 model differences

Model Important distinction
G502 HERO Wired model with the traditional G502 button layout and its own G HUB and onboard-memory behavior.
G502 LIGHTSPEED Wireless model. Logitech documents default DPI stages of 400, 800, 1600, 3200, and 6400 DPI, but these values should not be assumed for every G502.
G502 X Newer wired design with revised physical controls and a redesigned DPI Shift button.
G502 X LIGHTSPEED Wireless G502 X model with the newer chassis and button arrangement.
G502 X PLUS Wireless G502 X model with RGB lighting and the revised DPI Shift design.

Older Logitech Gaming Software documentation describes some G502 configurations with a 200–12,000 DPI range in 50-DPI increments, four onboard DPI levels, and report rates up to 500 reports per second. Those are legacy software details, not guaranteed limits for every current G502 or G HUB configuration.

G502 DPI troubleshooting

DPI keeps resetting after a restart, sleep, or game launch

  1. Open G HUB and confirm which desktop or game profile is active.
  2. Check that the game has not been assigned a different profile.
  3. Confirm that the desired DPI is marked as the default stage.
  4. Check whether the mouse is in software mode or onboard-memory mode.
  5. Save the configuration to onboard memory if you want it to persist without G HUB.
  6. Disconnect and reconnect the mouse, then test again.
  7. If it still reverts, reset the affected G HUB profile and recreate it rather than relying on unofficial registry edits or configuration files.

The DPI buttons do nothing

Open the active profile’s button assignments and confirm that DPI Up, DPI Down, DPI Cycle, or DPI Shift is assigned to the buttons you are pressing. The mouse may be using a different profile or an onboard profile with a different button map. Also check that you are not pressing DPI Shift expecting it to cycle through stages; Shift is normally a temporary sensitivity function.

DPI Shift activates accidentally

Check whether your thumb is resting on the Shift control, particularly on the original G502. On G502 X models, inspect the removable or reversible Shift button cover. You can move the button, change its assignment, or remove the assignment in G HUB if you do not use it.

G HUB does not detect the G502

  1. Reconnect the USB cable or wireless receiver.
  2. Try another USB port.
  3. For a wireless model, check its power switch and receiver connection.
  4. Restart G HUB and then restart the computer.
  5. Confirm whether the mouse works as a basic pointing device.
  6. Use Logitech’s official G HUB download and support path, not a third-party driver site.

Detection problems can involve the mouse, receiver pairing, USB power, firmware, G HUB, or the operating system. Reinstalling G HUB is not a guaranteed fix, so it should not be the first assumption.

The mouse feels wrong even though the DPI number is correct

Check the active G HUB profile, Windows pointer speed, the Windows Enhance pointer precision setting, the game’s sensitivity, and whether DPI Shift is being held. Logitech’s older gaming documentation recommends leaving Enhance pointer precision disabled for gaming accuracy, while acknowledging that some users prefer it for normal desktop use. Treat this as a preference and troubleshooting option, not a universal requirement.

The DPI value I want is unavailable

You may be editing onboard memory, using a profile with limited stages, selecting a preset, or requesting a value outside the model or firmware’s supported range. G HUB may also round or constrain values. Older Logitech software could round manually entered values to the nearest 50 DPI, but that legacy behavior should not be assumed for every current G HUB setup.

Does DPI change my monitor’s resolution?

No. DPI changes how far the pointer moves for a given physical mouse movement. It does not change the display resolution.

Can I use my saved DPI settings on another computer?

Usually, when your G502 model supports onboard memory and you have written the configuration to the mouse. Software-only profiles require G HUB and may change when another application profile becomes active.

How can I disable DPI switching?

In the active G HUB profile, reassign the DPI Up, DPI Down, DPI Cycle, or DPI Shift buttons to another function or unassign them. Check onboard profiles separately if the buttons still change sensitivity.
