The languages available depend on the territory where your copy was purchased, so a setting change cannot necessarily add an unsupported language.
Change Fallout 4’s language on Steam for PC
- Open your Steam Library.
- Right-click Fallout 4 and select Properties.
- Open the Language tab.
- Select an available language and let Steam download any required files before launching the game.
Steam’s per-game language setting is separate from the Steam client’s interface language. Changing the client language alone does not add a language missing from Fallout 4’s own options. Steam notes that some games do not offer every language and that language files may need to download. Steam language settings guidance.

Change the language on a console
Bethesda says console players may need to change the console’s system-level language setting to access additional supported languages. Change that setting, then relaunch Fallout 4 to check whether the game follows it. Menu paths differ by console and generation; Bethesda’s cited guidance does not give one universal route. PS5 Game Presets
On PS5, Sony documents Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Game Presets. There you can set the game language to match the console language or choose the game’s original audio. Sony says these presets apply only to PS5 games and that some settings may not apply to all games, so this is not a guaranteed Fallout 4 language switch in every PS5 setup. Check which languages your copy supports
Bethesda says Fallout 4 language availability depends on the territory where the game was purchased. For digital copies, that includes the territory associated with the Steam, PlayStation Network, or Xbox Live account. Bethesda’s published regional list distinguishes spoken audio from text support:

If the language you want is missing
- Check the purchase territory of your copy and, for a digital purchase, the region associated with your platform account.
- Compare the language you want with Bethesda’s regional list, paying attention to whether it is available for voice, text, or both.
- On Steam, revisit Fallout 4 > Properties > Language and wait for any download to finish.
- If the option is still missing but Bethesda lists it for your territory, contact the support team for the platform where you bought the game.
A console language setting or Steam client-language change does not override the language availability of a particular copy.
