You can’t choose a custom lightbar color through the PS5 settings documented by PlayStation. You can adjust the brightness of the controller indicators, while the console assigns a color to each player when a controller connects. Here’s where to find the brightness control and what it does.
How to adjust PS5 controller indicator brightness
On a standard DualSense, follow this menu path on your PS5:
- From the home screen, open Settings.
- Select Accessories.
- Select Controller (General).
- Choose Brightness of Controller Indicators and adjust the setting.
PlayStation documents this as a brightness control, not a color selector. The exact menu wording may vary by region or software version; the route above uses the wording on PlayStation’s Canada support page.
Why the controller light changes color
PlayStation says a color is assigned to each player when a DualSense connects after you press the PS button. Its connection instructions do not provide a way to manually choose that assigned color. Changing brightness affects how bright the indicators appear; it does not change their color.

What about DualSense Edge?
PlayStation’s DualSense Edge settings guide for PC documents adjusting the brightness of the player indicator and lightbar. The cited guide does not document custom color selection for the Edge.

A shell or skin changes the controller’s exterior appearance; that alone does not establish that it changes the color of the emitted light. The official instructions cited here do not document a custom color option, and no specific compatible third-party color-changing product or modification is established here. PlayStation’s DualSense instruction manual identifies the lightbar and provides safety guidance, but does not give a color-selection procedure.
