Then travel to a Neighborhood, find an empty plot, and click its cornerstone. Blizzard says the house moves there immediately with its interior and exterior decor, and there is no rent or upkeep fee.
What you need before buying a house
- Midnight access: Blizzard’s housing support FAQ lists the expansion as a requirement to purchase a house. Players without it may visit Neighborhoods and collect decor, but Blizzard’s early-access announcement says they cannot claim a home or join a Neighborhood.
- The housing introduction: Complete the quest or purchase introduction titled “A House For You.”
How to purchase a house
- Complete “A House For You” and make sure you have Midnight.
- Go to your faction’s housing area: Founder’s Point for Alliance or Razorwind Shores for Horde. You can use the portal in the Stormwind or Orgrimmar portal room. Blizzard also lists a Hearthstone option in the Housing Dashboard, with a 15-minute cooldown; this detail comes from its support FAQ dated December 2, 2025.
- Choose a Neighborhood and locate an empty plot. Blizzard describes public Neighborhoods as open to players in the server community; private Neighborhoods are player-created and may restrict who can buy a plot.
- Click the plot’s cornerstone to purchase it. Blizzard says the house moves to that plot instantly, carrying its existing interior and exterior decor.
Choose a Neighborhood and plot
Public Neighborhoods are automatically created and maintained, and players can purchase available plots. Private Neighborhoods are set up by players, including guilds or groups, and can limit purchases to eligible members. Blizzard’s housing overview describes public instances opening as existing ones fill, rather than using a purchase lottery. It gives an approximate capacity of 50 plots per Neighborhood; check the live game for current availability and capacity, which may change.
The faction determines which housing zone you visit, while the Neighborhood type determines who can access or buy there. You may own one plot in an Alliance Neighborhood and one in a Horde Neighborhood, according to Blizzard’s housing FAQ.
What does a house cost?
The purchase has two distinct costs to consider: access to Midnight is required, but Blizzard’s support FAQ does not state a universal gold price for the first plot. Blizzard says an owned house has no rent, upkeep, or subscription fee.

Optional decor is separate from buying the plot. Blizzard says decor can be earned through quests, dungeons, raids, achievements, professions, and Neighborhood vendors, and that the vast majority of Housing items are earnable in-game. Its Hearthsteel developer article says Hearthsteel is bought with real money through Battle.net balance and can be used for Housing items in Battle.net and in-game shops; shop items can be purchased individually.

Decor collection is shared across your Warband, so characters can use eligible decor regardless of which character earned it. Repeated placements require owning multiple copies. Blizzard’s support FAQ also distinguishes decor refund rules: Common decor bought with gold is non-refundable, while Uncommon and higher items may be refunded during the applicable refund timer.
