The available steps depend on the account’s listed age and local consent laws.
Choose the right account route

Change the birthdate on an adult account
- Sign in to the Microsoft account profile using the credentials for the account linked to Xbox.
- Open the profile information and edit the birthdate.
- Save the change.
This updates the Microsoft account identity used with Xbox; it is not a separate Xbox-console setting.
If Microsoft thinks an adult is a child
Check the account’s profile information and follow the consent status Microsoft displays. If the account already has consent, sign in with the adult Microsoft account that granted it, open Manage child accounts, and select “Edit this child’s personal info.” If the account is not listed, another adult in the family may have granted consent.

If Microsoft displays a parent-or-guardian-consent message and consent has not been given, start the consent process at login.live.com, choose “I’m a parent or guardian,” and complete the prompts. Then use the child-account management route. Microsoft says the adult completing this flow must be at least 18, except in Canada, where the minimum is 19.
Make a correction to a child account
The adult Microsoft account that granted consent must manage the child’s details. Sign in to Manage child accounts and choose “Edit this child’s personal info.” If the child is missing from the list, another adult in the family may be the person who granted consent.

If the edit option is unavailable, Microsoft says the account may no longer be classed as a child, or the child may be above the statutory age for the country or region. A child whose listed birthdate is below the local statutory age cannot remove their own consent.
Separate an age correction from Xbox family settings
Changing a birthdate corrects the Microsoft account information used by Xbox. Adding a child to an Xbox family or adjusting family controls is a separate task; those settings do not edit the birthdate. If the real problem is access to games or a family restriction, review Microsoft Family Safety or Xbox family settings. Microsoft notes that when multiple users are signed in, the youngest child or family member’s age restrictions can apply to games.

Age verification and regional rules
Microsoft’s age-verification guidance describes options for Australia, Brazil, Singapore, and the United Kingdom. Where that verification process is available and completed, Microsoft says it applies to both the Microsoft account and Xbox account. The exact route for a birthdate correction can also depend on local consent laws; Microsoft’s guidance does not provide a complete statutory-age table for every country or region.

Use Microsoft’s account recovery guidance to regain access. Microsoft says support agents cannot access and directly change account details, so contacting support is not a way to have an agent edit the birthdate for you.
