If you mean Roblox’s theme setting that follows your device’s operating-system appearance, open More > Settings > Device preferences and choose System. The route differs slightly on the Roblox website. If you mean your phone or tablet’s actual OS Settings app, open that app outside Roblox; Roblox’s theme preference does not launch it.
Set Roblox to follow your device’s theme
Roblox’s System theme option matches the appearance setting for the device or browser you are using. The preference is local to the device currently in use, according to Roblox Support’s theme instructions.
Roblox mobile app on iOS or Android
- Log in to Roblox and tap More.
- Tap Settings, then Device preferences.
- Under Device level theme, select System.
Roblox says this follows the theme currently set in your mobile device’s operating system.
Roblox desktop app
- Open More (the three dots in the left navigation).
- Select Settings, then Device preferences.
- Choose System under Device level theme.
In the desktop app, System follows the computer’s operating-system theme.

Roblox in a web browser
- Click the gear icon in the upper-right corner and choose Settings.
- Open Browser preferences.
- Under Theme, select System.
On the website, System follows the browser’s theme rather than directly setting the computer’s OS theme.
Console and VR
Roblox currently documents Dark mode only for console and VR; the System option is not available on those platforms.

Open your phone’s actual OS Settings app
Roblox’s in-app theme preference does not take you to the phone’s OS Settings app. Exit or minimize Roblox and open the built-in Settings app. If you are trying to find your operating-system version, Roblox lists these paths in its mobile system requirements instructions:
- iPhone or iPad: Settings > General > About.
- Android: Settings > About phone > Software information.
- Amazon Fire: Quick Settings > More > Device > About.
Choose System, Light, or Dark
Choose System when you want Roblox to follow the relevant device or browser appearance setting. Choose Light or Dark to select an appearance directly instead. The setting’s location depends on whether you use the mobile app, desktop app, or website.

Check compatibility only if Roblox will not run
Reaching the theme menu does not require an OS upgrade. If Roblox itself will not run on a mobile device, Roblox’s current requirements page lists iOS/iPadOS 14 or higher and Android OS 8.0 or higher, verified in 2026. Roblox also cautions that newly released operating-system versions and devices may not be supported immediately. These are compatibility requirements, not prerequisites for opening the theme setting.
