On a Euro Truck Simulator 2 (ETS2) or American Truck Simulator (ATS) dedicated server, a moderator changes the simulation clock with the in-game chat command /set_time HH:MM. For example, /set_time 18:30 sets the requested time after the moderator has joined the world and pressed Drive. You must first grant moderator status through server_config.sii, or provide the moderator Steam ID through the equivalent Docker setting.

What you need before changing the time
This procedure applies to dedicated multiplayer servers for ETS2 and ATS. It is not a normal single-player gameplay setting: the command is available to an authorized server moderator while that moderator is connected to the multiplayer world.

- Access to the dedicated server’s configuration files, or to the deployment settings used to start the server.
- The moderator’s SteamID64. Use the ID associated with the Steam account that will join the server and issue the command.
- A server restart after changing moderator configuration. The server promotes moderators when they join; the documented setup does not provide a promotion control in the middle of an active session.
- A game client that can join the server and reach the world through the Drive button.
The server creates server_config.sii automatically on its first launch. If the file is not present, start the server once, shut it down cleanly, and then look in the server’s configuration directory.
Give yourself or another player moderator rights
Self-hosted server: edit server_config.sii
- Stop the dedicated server. Editing while it is running can be overwritten when the process exits, so make the change while the server is offline.
- Open
server_config.siiin the server configuration directory with a plain-text editor. - Find the moderator list. The SCS Modding Wiki example uses indexed entries such as
moderator_list[0]andmoderator_list[1]. - Add the moderator’s SteamID64 to an unused indexed entry, preserving the syntax and indentation already used by the file. A configuration with multiple moderators should continue the index sequence rather than replacing an existing entry.
- Save the file, start the server, and wait for it to finish loading.
- Have the listed account leave and rejoin if necessary. Moderator status is assigned when the player joins; the documented setup does not include a live in-session promotion button.
Do not put a display name in the list unless your server documentation specifically requires it. The documented permission method is the player’s SteamID64, which remains usable even if the player changes a profile name.

Check the account ID before troubleshooting commands
A command failure is often a permission problem rather than a time-format problem. Confirm that the ID in server_config.sii is the SteamID64 for the account actually joining the server. Check for missing quotation marks, a duplicated index, or an accidental edit to another server’s configuration file. Restart the server after every permission change so the new list is read during startup.
Change the in-game time in ETS2 or ATS
1. Join with the moderator account
Start the game client, connect to the dedicated server, and wait until the server accepts the connection. A moderator is promoted when joining, so joining before the server restart will not necessarily give the account the newly added rights.

2. Load into the world
After connecting, click Drive. Community host instructions specify that the command is sent after the moderator has loaded into the world, not from a pre-join screen or a server-list menu.

3. Open the in-game chat box
Use the normal multiplayer chat control in the client. Enter the command with a slash, the command name, and a time in hour-and-minute form:
/set_time HH:MMFor example:
/set_time 18:30Use the same two-part format shown above and replace the example with the time you want the simulation to display. Send the message through chat. The command is documented as a moderator/admin chat command, so an ordinary player will not be able to use it simply by typing it.
4. Check the result in the world
Observe the server’s time-dependent world conditions after sending the command. If the time does not change, work through the permission, restart, connection, and syntax checks in the troubleshooting section below before trying a different command. Do not assume that a client-side clock change means the dedicated server accepted the request; the authoritative change must occur on the server.

Moderator chat commands related to server time

The command list above comes from host documentation and the SCS dedicated-server command description. Because server builds and documentation can change, /help is a practical first check after joining as a moderator.
Docker deployment: grant moderators with the environment setting
If the server runs in a Docker-based ETS2/ATS convoy-server image, the image documentation lists an ETS_SERVER_MODERATORS environment option. It accepts Steam IDs and gives those accounts moderator capabilities, including the ability to alter server time.
- Stop the container or deployment so its startup settings can be edited safely.
- Add the SteamID64 values required by your container’s environment configuration under
ETS_SERVER_MODERATORS. Follow the image’s documented value and separator format rather than inventing a new one. - Recreate or restart the container so the environment variable is read during startup.
- Join with one of the listed accounts, press Drive, and issue
/set_time HH:MMin chat.
If the variable is present but the command is rejected, inspect the container’s startup log for an invalid environment value and verify that the running container is the one receiving the updated setting. A change made only in a compose file or control panel does not affect an already-running container until it is recreated or restarted according to that deployment’s procedure.

Rented server or host control panel
Some game-server hosts expose the same time command through a control panel or document how to assign moderator IDs. The exact labels, file access, and restart controls vary by provider, so do not assume that a panel setting has the same name as server_config.sii. Look for a server configuration editor, moderator or administrator list, or a documented SteamID field. After saving a permission change, restart the server, rejoin, press Drive, and test the chat command.
If the host does not expose the file or an equivalent moderator setting, ask its support team where SteamID64-based moderator permissions are configured. The in-game command still requires the account to be recognized as a moderator; changing a client setting cannot bypass that requirement.

The chat message is treated as ordinary text
- Confirm that the entry begins with
/set_time, including the leading slash. - Make sure you are in the world after pressing Drive, rather than in a lobby, loading screen, or server browser.
- Check that the account’s SteamID64 is listed in the server’s moderator configuration.
The command is unknown or permission is denied
- Stop and restart the server after editing
server_config.siior changing the Docker environment. - Leave and rejoin with the same Steam account used in the moderator list.
- Check for an incorrect SteamID64, malformed list entry, overwritten index, or a change made to a different server instance.
- Run
/helpafter joining. If it does not show moderator help, the account probably was not promoted.
The time format is rejected
- Use the documented two-part form, such as
18:30, immediately after the command name. - Remove extra words, punctuation, or a display name from the command.
- Keep the angle brackets out of the actual message; they indicate a value to replace, so type
/set_time 18:30, not/set_time <18:30>.
The server appears to revert the change
First determine whether the command was accepted and whether another administrator or automated server action changed the clock afterward. If the value resets after a restart, check whether your host regenerates configuration or deploys from a template. Preserve the moderator setting in the authoritative configuration used at startup, then restart and test again.

Several players see different conditions
Reconnect affected clients and verify that everyone is on the same server instance. A local client clock, a saved single-player profile, or a different convoy session is not evidence that the dedicated server’s authoritative time changed. Test with a second player who joins the same address after the command is issued.

/set_time versus the console command g_set_time
The in-game chat command and the console command are separate mechanisms. The sources for this procedure document /set_time as the moderator command. A separate SCS Wiki page refers to a console-side command named g_set_time, but its behavior and availability were not verified for the current dedicated-server build covered here. Do not substitute g_set_time for the chat command unless the documentation for your exact server version explicitly confirms it.
Version and documentation caveat
Most published instructions for this feature are older. A host guide dated July 2026 states that its material is shared between ETS2 and ATS dedicated servers, but no source available for this article confirms that /set_time is unchanged on every latest game or server release. The SCS dedicated-server wiki also appears in cached versions with differences in unrelated launch and packaging details.
For that reason, treat the procedure as the documented method and verify it on your own build: use the live server’s /help output, confirm that the moderator joins successfully, and test the command with a noncritical time change before scheduling events around it. If a future server version removes or renames the command, the running build’s administrator documentation and host release notes take precedence.
