Change a RedM server icon by placing a PNG image where the server can read it, adding load_server_icon "your-file.png" to server.cfg, saving the configuration, and restarting the server. The image must be exactly 96 by 96 pixels. This setting is independent of your server name and description.
What RedM uses for a server icon
RedM uses the Cfx.re server command load_server_icon to select the image shown for a server. The command applies to RedM as well as FiveM; rdr3 is the game identifier used for RedM in Cfx.re’s documentation.

The required file format is PNG, and the dimensions must be exactly 96×96 pixels. A square image that is 95×95, 128×128, or any other size does not meet the documented requirement. The filename in your configuration must also match the uploaded file exactly.
The icon is not controlled by sv_projectName or sv_projectDesc. Those variables provide the project name and description used by server configuration templates such as a txAdmin recipe. The icon is a separate configuration line.

Before you start
Prepare a 96×96 PNG
Start with the artwork you want to use and resize or crop it to exactly 96 pixels wide by 96 pixels high. Save the final file as PNG. GIMP is one option for resizing; an online image converter can also create the required dimensions. Check the exported file’s properties after saving rather than relying on the editor’s canvas size alone.
- Format: PNG
- Width: 96 pixels
- Height: 96 pixels
- Filename: the name you will enter after
load_server_icon
Use a straightforward filename, such as my-server.png, so it is easy to identify in the server directory. The official requirement is the PNG format and 96×96 dimensions; other image characteristics are not specified in the documentation reviewed here.
Know which file access method you have
Your upload path depends on how the server is managed. On a self-managed installation, place the PNG in the same folder as server.cfg, as described by a RedM hosting guide. On a txAdmin-managed hosted server, a hosting guide instructs administrators to upload the file through the provider’s Files tab to the server’s base resource folder. If your host presents a different directory layout, use the location from its panel documentation and make sure the running server can read the file.

How to change the icon in a self-managed RedM server
- Create the image. Export a PNG that is exactly 96×96 pixels. Keep the final filename visible; the command must use that name.
- Open the server directory. Locate the folder containing
server.cfg. - Copy the PNG beside the configuration file. For a self-managed layout, put the icon in the same folder as
server.cfg. - Edit
server.cfg. Add a line using the exact filename. For example:load_server_icon "my-server.png" - Save the configuration. Ensure the saved file is the one used to start this RedM instance, especially if several server profiles exist.
- Restart the server. The icon setting is read during startup, so a running process will not use the new image until you restart it.
- Inspect startup output. Watch the server console while it starts. A hosting guide reports that the console flags an icon whose dimensions are not 96×96, making the startup log a useful validation point.
If you replace an existing icon while keeping the same filename, perform the same save-and-restart sequence. The server will continue using the old image until the process reloads its configuration and file.
How to change the icon through a txAdmin hosting panel
- Make the PNG. Confirm that the image is 96×96 pixels and saved as PNG before opening the panel.
- Open the host’s Files tab. In the hosted txAdmin workflow described by a hosting guide, upload the image to the server’s base resource folder.
- Verify the uploaded name. Check that the panel shows the same spelling and extension you intend to use in the command. Do not silently rename the file during upload.
- Open the CFG Editor. Find the server configuration editor provided by the panel.
- Add the command. Enter the filename in a
load_server_iconline, for example:load_server_icon "my-server.png" - Click Save File. The hosting guide specifically identifies the CFG Editor’s Save File control as the step that writes the change.
- Restart the server from the panel. A restart is required for the setting to take effect.
- Read the startup console. Check for an image-dimension warning or another file-loading error before testing the server listing.
The panel’s directory names and buttons can vary by provider, but the essential pairing remains the same: upload the PNG where the server expects files, add the command to the active server.cfg, save it, and restart.

Self-managed files versus a hosted txAdmin panel

The command itself does not change between these setups. Only the way you reach the file and configuration editor differs.
Correct command syntax and filename matching
The command takes the image filename as its value:
load_server_icon "my-server.png"
Replace my-server.png with the actual uploaded name. Keep the quotation marks shown in the example, and include the extension. A mismatch such as uploading redm-logo.png while configuring my-server.png prevents the server from finding the intended file.
Put the command on its own line in server.cfg. Do not substitute sv_projectName or sv_projectDesc; those variables describe the project and do not select the icon. If your configuration template includes name and description variables, leave them as their own settings and add the icon command separately.

Validate the change after restarting
Check the startup console first
The quickest initial test is the server console. A hosting guide reports that the console flags an icon that is not 96×96. If you see such a warning, return to the source image, resize it to exactly 96×96 pixels, export it as PNG, replace the uploaded file, and restart again.
Confirm the configuration and file independently
- Open the active
server.cfgand confirm that aload_server_iconline exists. - Compare the filename in that line with the uploaded filename, including the extension and spelling.
- Confirm that the file is in the directory used by the running server, not merely in a similarly named profile or backup folder.
- Confirm that the file is a PNG and measures 96×96 pixels.
- Restart after every correction; editing a stopped or running configuration without restarting does not apply the new setting.
Allow for display-side uncertainty
Community forum reports describe cases in which an icon did not appear on the main server list and suggest that connecting by IP could make it visible. These reports are not confirmed as official RedM behavior, so treat them as possible display or listing issues rather than a required part of the setup. First establish that the file, command, dimensions, and restart are correct.
Troubleshooting by symptom
The console reports the wrong dimensions
Recheck both dimensions rather than checking only that the image looks square. Open the source in an image editor, set width and height to 96 pixels, export a new PNG, and upload the replacement. A file that was resized in one editor but exported at a different final size will still fail the requirement.

The server starts, but no icon appears
- Verify that the command is in the configuration file used by this server instance.
- Verify that the image is in the expected directory for your installation method.
- Match the configured filename to the uploaded filename exactly.
- Confirm the PNG is 96×96.
- Restart and watch the startup output again.
- If all checks pass, test whether the behavior differs between the server list and a direct IP connection, while remembering that community reports about this behavior are unconfirmed.
The file cannot be found
A missing-file symptom usually means the path, filename, or active configuration is wrong. On a self-managed server, check the folder beside server.cfg. In a hosted txAdmin workflow, return to the Files tab and verify that the upload went to the base resource folder specified by the host’s guide. Then compare every character of the name in the CFG Editor with the file shown in the panel.
The icon looks unchanged after replacement
Keep the filename and command consistent, replace the file in the same directory, and restart the server. If the old image still appears, verify that you edited the profile that is actually running rather than another server configuration. A restart is the documented application point for the setting.
A PNG behaves unexpectedly after editing
A Cfx.re forum user reported display problems with a PNG containing unusually large embedded editor metadata. That is a single-user anecdote, not documented behavior. If all official requirements are met but the image still behaves oddly, exporting a clean 96×96 PNG from your editor can be a reasonable diagnostic step; do not treat metadata as a confirmed RedM requirement.
Do not confuse the icon with project identity settings
A typical txAdmin recipe may contain sv_projectName and sv_projectDesc. These variables supply the server’s name and description, and a Cfx.re troubleshooting article reports that startup can show an error when they are not set. They do not replace the icon command.
Use separate lines when you need all three values:
sv_projectName "My RedM Server"
sv_projectDesc "A short server description"
load_server_icon "my-server.png"
The first two lines identify the project in configuration templates; the third selects the 96×96 PNG. Saving and restarting applies the complete set of changes.
