To change a BeamMP server’s map, stop the server, edit the Map entry in ServerConfig.toml under [General], save the file, and restart the server. Stock maps normally use a path such as /levels/gridmap_v2/info.json. For a custom map, upload its ZIP unchanged to Resources/Client, then set Map to the exact folder name inside the ZIP’s levels/ directory.

The quick procedure
The setting is read when the BeamMP server starts, so changing the file while the process is running is not enough. Use this order:

- Open the server’s
ServerConfig.tomlfile. - Find the
[General]section and edit itsMapvalue. - Enter the level path in the form
/levels/<name>/info.json, replacing<name>with the level folder name. - Save the file and start the server again.
- Join the server and confirm that the intended level loads.
A map change usually disconnects current players while the server restarts. One hosting guide estimates the interruption at about 30 seconds, but the actual time depends on the host and the map.
What you need before editing
- Access to the machine or hosting control panel that contains the BeamMP server files.
- Permission to stop and start the server.
- A text editor that does not add rich-text formatting to TOML files.
- The exact level path for the map you want to load.
Stop the server before opening the configuration for editing. This prevents the running process from keeping an old value in memory or rewriting the file when it shuts down. If the server is public, warn players first: everyone currently connected will be removed during the restart.

Make a copy of ServerConfig.toml before changing it. A backup lets you restore the previous map if the new path is rejected. Keep the backup outside the server’s active configuration location so the server does not mistake it for the live file.
Where the map setting lives
The official BeamMP documentation identifies ServerConfig.toml as the configuration file in the server folder, alongside files such as Server.log and BeamMP-Server.exe. Open that file and look in the [General] section.
The setting has this shape:

Change only the value after Map =. Keep the key name, equals sign, quotation marks and TOML section heading intact. Do not add a Windows drive letter, a server URL or the path to the ZIP file itself.
Choosing a stock BeamNG level
Stock levels use the level directory and a level metadata file. The common pattern documented by BeamMP guides is /levels/<level-folder>/info.json. These examples illustrate the format:

Use the folder name, not the display name shown in a launcher or server browser. A display name can contain spaces while the filesystem folder uses underscores or another spelling. The path is also case-sensitive on systems that enforce case-sensitive filenames, so preserve capital letters exactly when they appear.

Most BeamMP instructions use an info.json path. A separate hosting guide gives Map = "/levels/italy/main.level.json" for Italy instead. Those two conventions conflict, and the available documentation does not establish one universal rule for every host or server package.
If the standard info.json path fails, inspect the installed level’s levels/italy/ directory and check the file names your host expects. On a managed host, use the provider’s current map example for that server image. Do not append main.level.json to every map automatically; use it only when the files or host instructions indicate that this is the required entry point.
Changing the map on a self-hosted server
1. Stop the process
Use the server’s normal stop control, service manager or hosting panel. Wait until the BeamMP process has exited before editing. If a console window remains open, confirm that it no longer reports the server as running.
2. Open the correct configuration file
Navigate to the folder that contains the BeamMP server executable and log. Open ServerConfig.toml in a plain-text editor. If you see several copies, use the one in the active server folder—the folder whose log updates when you start the server.

3. Edit the Map line
Under [General], replace only the existing map path. For example, to use West Coast USA:
[General]
Map = "/levels/west_coast_usa/info.json"For Gridmap, the value would be /levels/gridmap_v2/info.json. Keep the leading slash and the /levels/ directory. A path such as west_coast_usa without those components is not the documented format.
4. Save as TOML
Save the file without changing its name or extension. A text editor that silently creates ServerConfig.toml.txt will leave the real configuration untouched. Check the filename in the file manager after saving.
5. Start the server
Launch the same server instance you stopped. Watch the console or Server.log for startup errors. Once the server is available, connect with a client and verify the level. If the old map still appears, the most likely causes are an edited copy of the file, an unsaved change, or a second server instance using another folder.
Loading a custom map
Custom maps require two separate actions: installing the map archive where clients can receive it, and pointing the server’s Map key at the correct level metadata file.

1. Keep the map as a ZIP archive
Place the custom map ZIP in the server’s Resources/Client folder. The hosting guidance for this workflow says to upload mod ZIPs as-is rather than unzipping them. Do not rename internal folders to make them look nicer, and do not place the archive in an unrelated server directory.
2. Inspect the archive structure
Open a copy of the ZIP with an archive utility and look for its levels/ directory. Identify the folder immediately below it. For example, if the archive contains levels/my_desert_track/info.json, the level folder name is my_desert_track.
The archive may contain other files, but the name directly under levels/ is the part that determines the map path. Do not use the ZIP filename unless it exactly matches that internal folder.

3. Match the folder name exactly
Set the configuration to the internal name, preserving every underscore, hyphen and capital letter:
[General]
Map = "/levels/my_desert_track/info.json"If the archive uses a capitalized folder such as MyDesertTrack, use /levels/MyDesertTrack/info.json. A one-character difference can make the server fail to find the level.

4. Restart after both changes
Stop the server, save the configuration, and start it again after uploading the ZIP. The server must restart with the new Map value; uploading the archive alone does not select it.
Using a hosting control panel
Managed hosts generally expose the same files through a web file manager, SFTP or an editor labeled “ServerConfig.toml.” The labels differ, but the sequence does not:
- Press the panel’s stop button and wait for the status to show that the server is offline.
- Open the file manager and locate
ServerConfig.tomlin the server root. - Edit the
Mapentry under[General]. - For a custom map, upload the ZIP to
Resources/Clientwithout extracting it. - Save the file, close the editor, and start the server.
Some panels provide a map selector that writes the same configuration value for you. If the selector and the file disagree, the value that the active server reads at startup determines the result. After using a panel selector, reopen the file and verify the resulting path rather than assuming the display label maps to the intended level.
Troubleshooting a map that will not load

Check the log before changing multiple settings
Use Server.log to determine whether the failure is a path problem, a configuration parse problem or a missing resource. Change one item at a time. Editing unrelated settings while diagnosing a map makes it harder to identify which change caused the failure.
Validate the directory level by level
For a stock map, confirm that the level folder exists beneath the game’s available levels and that the referenced metadata file is present. For a custom map, confirm all of the following in order: the ZIP is in Resources/Client; the archive contains levels/; the expected folder is directly beneath it; and the file named in Map exists inside that folder.
Planning a map change for players
A map change is a server restart, not a seamless rotation. Announce the maintenance window, stop new sessions if your host offers that control, and give connected players time to leave. Because one guide reports roughly 30 seconds of disconnection during the change, schedule it between events rather than in the middle of a race or convoy. Treat that figure as an estimate, not a guaranteed service time.

Keep the previous working value until the new level has been tested. If the new map fails, restore the backup, start the server, and only then investigate the custom archive or alternate level filename. This rollback is faster than trying several unverified paths on a live server.
Common configuration mistakes to avoid
- Editing
ServerConfig.tomlwhile the server is still running and assuming the process will reload it. - Using the ZIP filename instead of the folder name inside
levels/. - Removing the leading slash or the
/levels/portion of the path. - Changing capitalization or replacing underscores with spaces.
- Extracting a custom map when the host instructions require the ZIP to remain intact.
- Assuming the
ks_nordorgridmap_v2examples are universal defaults. - Applying the Italy
main.level.jsonexample to maps that expectinfo.json. - Editing several server settings at once, which obscures the cause of a failed startup.
Recommended verification checklist
- The server process is stopped before editing.
- The file is the active server’s
ServerConfig.toml. Mapis under[General].- The path starts with
/levels/. - The folder name matches the installed level exactly.
- The referenced metadata filename exists for that level.
- Custom ZIP files are in
Resources/Clientand remain unextracted when required by the host. - The file was saved with the exact
.tomlextension. - The server was restarted and the log was checked.
- Players were warned about the temporary disconnect.
What is established about map selection
The dependable configuration method is to edit Map and restart. The official documentation identifies the configuration file and shows the /levels/.../info.json style, while hosting guides provide additional stock examples and the custom-map placement procedure. Exact defaults for every server release and host are not established by the available documentation, so treat examples as paths to verify against the files installed on your server.
