Edit the world’s SandboxSettings.ini while the server is stopped. Set DayNightCycleSpeedMultiplier anywhere from 0.1 to 3.0, save the file, and restart the server. Use DayNightCycleState only when you want to lock the world to permanent day or night.

The accepted range is 0.1 through 3.0. A higher multiplier makes the in-game clock move faster; it does not alter unrelated cooldowns or respawn timers. The default is 1.0.
To remove the transition entirely, change DayNightCycleState: 0 is the normal cycle, 1 is always day, and 2 is always night. Locking the state can prevent items or events that require a particular time of day from occurring, so a speed multiplier is the safer choice for most persistent worlds.

Which setting should you use?
Use the speed multiplier for a longer or shorter day
DayNightCycleSpeedMultiplier keeps the day-to-night loop intact and changes only the rate of that clock. Choose a number below 1.0 when your group wants more time in each phase. Choose a number above 1.0 when darkness or daylight is lasting longer than your play session can accommodate.
The value is a multiplier, not a separate day-length setting. For example, this line makes the cycle run at twice the default rate:

Entering 2.0 means two times the default rate, while 0.5 means half the default rate. Keep the decimal point and do not add a percent sign.
Use a state lock only for permanent day or permanent night
DayNightCycleState has three documented modes:

The lock is useful for a themed server, a testing world, or a group that deliberately wants one lighting state. It is not a substitute for making the cycle merely shorter or longer. If you later return the setting to 0, the normal cycle resumes, but anything that could not spawn or trigger while the world was locked remains a reason to avoid permanent locks on progression-focused saves.
Before editing the server
- Make sure you can access the world files through your host’s file manager, SFTP, or equivalent control-panel tool.
- Stop the Abiotic Factor server completely. Host instructions warn that changes made while the process is running can be overwritten when it shuts down or restarts.
- Identify the correct world and its save name before opening a configuration file. Editing another world’s file will not change the world your players enter.
- Keep a copy of the original
SandboxSettings.iniso you can restore the previous values if the result is not what your group wants.
These settings are file-based. They are not documented as server-console commands, so entering the setting name in the in-game or host console will not replace editing the file.

Hosted-server procedure
The following procedure applies to a hosted dedicated server when the provider exposes the save files. Menu names vary by host, but the file and order of operations stay the same.

- Open the world directory. The typical hosted path is
AbioticFactor/Saved/SaveGames/Server/Worlds/<Save Name>/SandboxSettings.ini. Replace<Save Name>with the directory name for your world. The exact root shown by a provider can differ, so search for the world’sWorldsfolder if the displayed path begins elsewhere. - Open
SandboxSettings.iniin a plain-text editor. Use the host’s built-in editor or download, edit, and re-upload the file if that is how the panel works. Avoid a word processor that could add formatting. - Find the relevant key. Search for
DayNightCycleSpeedMultiplierto change the rate orDayNightCycleStateto lock the state. If the key already exists, edit only the number after the equals sign. - Enter an accepted value. For cycle speed, use a decimal from
0.1to3.0. For the state, use only0,1, or2. - Save the file. Confirm that the host reports a successful save or upload and that the filename remains exactly
SandboxSettings.ini, rather than gaining an additional extension such as.txt. - Start or restart the server. The game reads the edited sandbox settings during startup. Join only after the server reports that it is online.
Example edits
Make the cycle run twice as fast
Leave the normal state enabled and set the multiplier to 2.0:
DayNightCycleSpeedMultiplier=2.0
DayNightCycleState=0This preserves the day-to-night transition while making the clock run at twice the default rate.
Slow the cycle without freezing it
For a substantially slower loop, use a value such as 0.5:

DayNightCycleState=0The cycle remains active. The exact experience depends on when players join and which phase the world is in at that time; the setting controls the rate rather than forcing an immediate daylight change.

Force permanent day
DayNightCycleState=1Set the state to 1 only when the world should remain in day mode. Keep in mind that content restricted to night may no longer be obtainable while this value is active.
Force permanent night
DayNightCycleState=2Set the state to 2 for a permanently dark world. Day-dependent items or events can become unavailable under this lock.
How the two controls interact
The controls answer different questions. The speed multiplier determines how quickly the normal clock advances; the state value determines whether the clock is normal, permanently day, or permanently night. For a normal rotating world, use DayNightCycleState=0 and adjust the multiplier.
If you set a permanent state, that lock is the controlling choice for the day/night mode. There is little practical reason to tune the speed multiplier while the world is locked, because there is no normal transition for the multiplier to accelerate or slow. When returning to a conventional cycle, set the state back to 0 and choose the desired multiplier within the accepted range.
Changing whether power sockets switch off at night
PowerSocketsOffAtNight is a separate sandbox option. Set it to True if sockets should turn off at night, or False if they should remain on:

PowerSocketsOffAtNight=FalseThis option changes the night-time behavior of sockets; it does not change the speed of the day/night clock and does not turn the world permanently day or night. Treat it as an independent line in the same SandboxSettings.ini file.
What you cannot do from the server console
Sandbox settings are edited directly in the world file rather than issued as console commands. If a console rejects DayNightCycleSpeedMultiplier or appears to accept it without changing the world, stop using the console for this task. Shut down the server, edit the correct SandboxSettings.ini, save it, and restart.

A restart is part of the change, not an optional final step. If the server remains online while you edit, its active configuration can overwrite your saved value when it later shuts down.

The day length did not change
- Verify that the server was stopped before the edit and restarted afterward.
- Reopen the file and check that the key is spelled exactly
DayNightCycleSpeedMultiplier, including capitalization. - Confirm that the value is between
0.1and3.0and uses a decimal point where needed. - Make sure you edited the world directory named in the path, not a different save with a similar name.
- Check that the host saved the file in the server’s live filesystem rather than in a local download folder.
The value keeps reverting
The most likely cause is editing while the server is running or changing a generated copy instead of the live world file. Stop the process, make the change, save or upload it, and verify the file contents before starting the server again. If the provider regenerates files through a configuration panel, use its file manager and confirm that the panel is writing to the same world shown in the Worlds directory.
Permanent day or night removed expected content
Return DayNightCycleState to 0 and restart so the regular cycle is restored. The state lock can make some day-only or night-only items and events unobtainable while active. If your group needs a more convenient schedule, use a multiplier rather than suppressing one phase.

The host panel cannot find the file
Look for the save under the server’s saved-game area and then enter SaveGames/Server/Worlds. The typical final location is the world-specific SandboxSettings.ini shown above, but hosting panels can place the game root behind a provider-specific directory. If the panel has separate instances, select the instance that actually runs your Abiotic Factor server before browsing.
Hosted files versus local or co-op saves
The documented hosted path is for a dedicated server’s world directory. Local and co-op save locations were not established for this procedure, so do not assume that the hosted path exists on a personal computer or that a host-panel workflow applies to those sessions. The reliable part of the method is the setting itself: locate the active world’s SandboxSettings.ini, stop the process that owns the save, edit it, and restart that session. If the local installation does not expose that file, the hosted path and console instructions above should not be treated as a substitute.

The table’s multiplier examples are starting points, not additional game presets. Any speed value must remain within the accepted 0.1–3.0 range.
Editing checklist
- Correct server instance selected.
- Server fully stopped.
- Correct world directory opened.
- File name is
SandboxSettings.ini. - Key spelling and capitalization preserved.
- Speed value is between
0.1and3.0, or state value is0,1, or2. - Original file retained as a rollback copy.

Bottom line
For almost every server, set DayNightCycleState=0 and adjust DayNightCycleSpeedMultiplier in the world’s SandboxSettings.ini. Stop the server before editing and restart it afterward. Choose DayNightCycleState=1 or 2 only when permanent day or permanent night is intentional, because locking the cycle can block time-specific items and events.
