To raise or lower the number of players allowed in a Soulmask tribe, change the server’s tribe-cap setting: Max Tribe Capacity in a hosting panel or Tribe Persons in the game’s Coefficient Settings. Both labels refer to the per-tribe player limit. Stop the server and back up its configuration before making the change.

Which setting controls tribe membership?
Soulmask servers expose several similarly named limits. The setting that controls how many human players can belong to one tribe is identified in available server documentation by one of three names:

Do not substitute Tribe Recruitment limit for the player cap. One guide lists that separate recruitment setting as GongHuiMaxZhaoMuCount with a default of 50. It limits recruitment actions, not the number of human players who can occupy a tribe. A per-player NPC recruit limit is also unrelated.
Before changing the limit
Stop the server cleanly
Use your host’s Stop, Shutdown, or power-control button and wait until the status reports that the process has fully stopped. Editing a live configuration can be overwritten when the server saves or restarts, and a partial write can leave the file unusable.

Back up the current configuration
Download the relevant configuration files or create a panel backup before changing anything. Keep the original copy until every member can join normally. Record the old value, the new value, the date, and the server build so you can roll back without guessing.
Choose a sensible value
The value is a per-tribe cap, not a global server population setting. Raising it does not automatically raise the number of players the server can host, improve performance, or increase the number of tribes. Check your server’s total-player limit and hardware budget separately before choosing a much larger number.
Method 1: Change “Max Tribe Capacity” in a hosting panel
This is the clearest documented route when your provider exposes the setting in its web interface. The labels can vary slightly between panels, but the documented path is through configuration files and Server Settings.
- Sign in to your server host’s management panel.
- Open the server’s file or configuration area and expand the Config Files menu.
- Select Server Settings.
- Stop the server if it is still running. If the panel offers an automatic stop-and-edit workflow, use it and wait for the stopped status.
- Find Max Tribe Capacity. Use the panel’s search box if one is available.
- Enter the maximum number of human players you want in one tribe. For example, entering
30requests a 30-player tribe cap; it does not mean 30 additional slots. - Save the settings.
- Start the server and wait for it to finish its normal startup sequence.
- Have a tribe administrator test the result by inviting a player or attempting an invite after the old limit has been reached.
If the field is missing, your host may expose the same value under a different configuration view, use a generated configuration file, or be running a build whose panel template has not been updated. Do not create a random key in an unrelated file merely because the name sounds plausible; ask the host which file its Server Settings form writes.

Method 2: Change “Tribe Persons” in Coefficient Settings
Another documented route uses the game’s coefficient editor. Citadel Servers describes the setting under the Coefficient Settings menu, in the General tab. Its knowledgebase lists Tribe Persons with a default of 20. Treat that number as a listed default for the relevant configuration, not a guarantee for every region, build, or host.
- Join the server with an account that has permission to edit server settings.
- Open the server’s Coefficient Settings menu.
- Select the General tab.
- Locate Tribe Persons.
- Replace the existing number with the desired per-tribe player cap.
- Apply or save the change, then restart the server if the interface requests it.
- Reconnect and test an invite from a tribe that is at or near the new limit.
Some interfaces expose coefficient controls only to the owner or an administrator. If you can see gameplay settings but not this field, verify your permission level and whether the host has disabled in-game editing. A value saved in the interface can also be regenerated from a panel template during restart, so check the effective value after the server comes back online.

Third-party guides identify -GongHuiMaxMember=N as a possible startup argument for the tribe or guild member cap. One guide shows -GongHuiMaxMember=50 as an example, while another result associates a default of 20 with the parameter. Because those values conflict and no official developer documentation was found confirming the argument, use this method only when your host or current server build explicitly supports it.
How to handle the parameter safely
- Stop the server and copy the existing startup command or launch-argument list.
- Add the argument in the same startup-parameters field used by the host, preserving the leading hyphen and exact capitalization:
-GongHuiMaxMember=30. - Save the launch settings and start the server.
- Read the startup log for an argument error, an ignored-option message, or a line showing the loaded tribe limit.
- Test the cap in game. A server that starts successfully may still ignore an unsupported argument.
Do not assume that the example value of 50 is a universal default or recommendation. It is only an example reported by one third-party guide. If the argument has no effect, remove it, restore the backed-up launch configuration, and use the panel or Coefficient Settings route instead.

Why Engine.ini instructions are risky
One guide describes Engine.ini as a place for core settings, including a player cap under a [Dedicated.Settings] section. No source identified a confirmed tribe-size key in that file. Consequently, there is no verified basis for adding a tribe-membership setting to Engine.ini.
Editing the file can also be misleading: a key may be accepted syntactically but ignored, overwritten by a generated settings file, or intended for total server capacity rather than membership in one tribe. Unless your host supplies an exact key and section for your current build, leave Engine.ini unchanged and use a documented UI field.

Tribe Recruitment limit
The recruitment limit governs how many recruitment actions or recruits a tribe can make under the game’s recruitment system. A third-party guide names GongHuiMaxZhaoMuCount and lists 50 as its default. That is a different resource from human tribe membership. Increasing it will not let a tribe exceed its player cap.
Per-player NPC recruit limit
A separate per-player NPC recruit allowance affects how many non-player characters an individual can recruit. It has no bearing on how many human accounts can join the tribe, so changing it cannot solve a “tribe is full” message for a player.

Total server player cap
The server’s overall player limit is independent of the tribe cap. If the server is full, raising Max Tribe Capacity or Tribe Persons will not create another connection slot. Conversely, a high total-player cap does not enlarge any individual tribe unless the per-tribe setting is raised.
Choosing the right value
Start with the smallest cap that fits your group. A larger tribe changes coordination, territorial control, progression speed, and the number of simultaneous players who can share tribe permissions. Before applying a large increase, consider:
- Server capacity: the total connection limit and available CPU, memory, and network headroom.
- Group size: the number of active players rather than the number of accounts that might join eventually.
- Administration: who can invite, remove, or manage permissions when more players share one tribe.
- Competitive balance: whether a large tribe would dominate a server intended for smaller groups.
- Testing: whether you can try the new value during a maintenance window and roll back quickly.
Changing the cap does not merge tribes, transfer ownership, or automatically invite anyone. Existing memberships should remain intact; the change affects whether additional players can be admitted.

- Confirm that the server restarted after the save, if the panel requires a restart.
- Reopen the same setting and check that the new number is still present rather than reverted to the previous value.
- Join with a test account and inspect the tribe-management screen.
- Use a tribe at the previous limit to attempt one additional invitation.
- Check the server log for configuration errors or a message that an unknown setting was ignored.
- Ask an existing member to reconnect so you can distinguish a membership-cap issue from a connection or permission issue.
If the invitation still fails, note the exact error text and whether the tribe already contains the requested number of human players. Also check that you changed the setting on the correct server instance; hosts commonly list separate production, test, and regional servers under similar names.

Troubleshooting common failures
The field is not visible
Look under the panel’s Config Files, then Server Settings, rather than a general gameplay or NPC section. If the provider does not expose Max Tribe Capacity, ask which configuration file its current Soulmask template uses. Do not guess a key name from a forum post.
The value saves but reverts
Stop the server, restore the backup if necessary, and determine which layer is writing the setting: a hosting-panel template, an in-game coefficient editor, a startup command, or a generated configuration file. Keep one authoritative method and remove conflicting duplicate entries. The precedence between startup arguments, Engine.ini, and other files has not been officially documented, so a later write may override an earlier one.
The server will not start
Remove the last startup argument or configuration edit, restore the backed-up file, and start the server with the previous known-good settings. If the panel has a console or log viewer, capture the first configuration error for the host’s support team instead of repeatedly changing values.
The tribe remains full
Make sure you changed the player-cap field, not Tribe Recruitment limit or an NPC recruitment setting. Confirm that the player you are inviting is not already counted in another tribe, that the inviter has permission, and that the server has fully restarted. A total-server connection limit can also block a join even when the tribe has room.
Different players see different limits
Have everyone reconnect to the same server address after the restart. Cached sessions or a connection to another instance can make an old limit appear to persist. Verify the server name, region, and build before making another edit.
What is confirmed for current guidance?
The panel label Max Tribe Capacity and the Coefficient Settings label Tribe Persons are the two documented ways to reach the per-tribe player cap. The listed default of 20 comes from a hosting-provider knowledgebase and should be treated as configuration-specific. The startup argument -GongHuiMaxMember=N is reported by third-party guides but is not confirmed by official documentation, and the available reports disagree about its default. No reliable source establishes whether startup arguments, Engine.ini, or another configuration file takes precedence on every current build.
