Change the name in ServerConfig.toml
The standard method works for a server managed directly from its files. BeamMP stores the public name in ServerConfig.toml. The setting is case-sensitive in both its section and key: use [General] and Name.

- Stop the BeamMP server. Do not edit the configuration while the server process is running. A running process may keep the old settings in memory or write its current configuration back over your changes when it shuts down.
- Open
ServerConfig.toml. Use the configuration file belonging to the BeamMP instance you actually start. If you operate more than one server, confirm its directory before editing. - Find the
[General]section. The official configuration format places the name there. A typical entry looks like this:

Name = "Test Server"- Replace only the value in quotation marks. For example:
[General]
Name = "Saturday Night Drive"- Save the file. Keep the TOML structure intact, including the section header, equals sign, quotation marks, and spelling of
Name. - Start the server again. BeamMP reads the changed value during startup. Once the server is online again, its new name should be visible in the public server list.
How to change a BeamMP server name on a hosting panel
Panel-hosted servers usually provide a form instead of requiring a local file edit. The labels vary by host, but the documented workflow is:
- Stop the server from the panel.
- Open Configuration Files.
- Locate
ServerConfig.tomland select its Config Editor icon. - Edit the Server Name field.
- Click Save.
- Start the server and wait for it to reconnect to the public list.
Some panels also expose a Server Name variable in the Startup tab. If your panel has that field, check it after editing the file. A startup value can be applied when the service launches and may override the value saved in ServerConfig.toml, depending on the panel implementation.

BeamMP server name not changing? Check these causes
The server was not restarted
Changing the file alone does not update a running instance. Stop the process before editing, then start it again after saving. Verify that the server has fully returned online before checking the public list.
You edited the wrong configuration file
Multiple BeamMP instances can each have their own ServerConfig.toml. Confirm that the file you changed belongs to the executable, service, or panel entry you use to launch the public server. Editing a sample file or a different instance will not change the name of the server players see.

The section or key is incorrect
The BeamMP setting is Name under [General]. A key such as serverName comes from generic hosting instructions and does not match BeamMP’s documented key. Check capitalization and make sure the entry is not placed under another section.
A hosting panel is writing another value at startup
If the file contains the new name but the old name returns after every restart, inspect the panel’s Startup settings for a separate Server Name variable. Disable or update that competing value, save the panel configuration, and restart the server once more.

An environment variable is taking priority
Reports associated with BeamMP Server v3.2.0 indicate that an environment variable named BEAMMP_NAME can override the Name value in the file. This behavior is not confirmed in the official documentation available for this guide, so treat it as a version- and host-dependent possibility. If your service definition, container settings, or host panel sets BEAMMP_NAME, change or remove it before testing the file value again.
The server is not actually back in the public list
The new name is shown only after the server has restarted successfully and is online. If it does not appear at all, resolve the startup or connection problem first; a name edit cannot be displayed by an offline instance.

Both routes change the same BeamMP server setting. The panel is easier to use, but it can add a second Startup-level variable, so check for an override if the displayed name does not match the saved file.

No official character limit is established here
Third-party guidance sometimes claims a 250-character maximum, but that limit is not confirmed in the official BeamMP documentation referenced for this setting. Avoid treating 250 characters as a guaranteed allowance. Use a concise name that your players can identify in the server list, and test it after restarting.

Keep the TOML value valid
Leave the value in double quotation marks. If the name itself contains characters that require special TOML escaping, simplify the name or verify the syntax supported by your server version rather than leaving an invalid configuration. Do not rename the key or section to match a generic hosting template.
Colors and other display formatting
BeamMP’s official server-maintenance documentation includes a Name customization area covering colors and similar formatting. The exact formatting syntax is not established in the material for this guide, so do not copy an assumed color-code format from another game or plugin. Use the syntax documented for your BeamMP server version, then restart and verify the rendered result in the list.
Verification checklist
- The server process was stopped before the edit.
- The edited file is the active instance’s
ServerConfig.toml. - The entry is under
[General]. - The key is spelled
Name, notserverName. - The new value remains inside quotation marks.
- The file or panel changes were saved.
- No panel Startup variable supplies a different name.
- No host or service environment variable such as
BEAMMP_NAMEis overriding the file value. - The server was restarted and is online before you check the public list.
Changing a BeamNG multiplayer server name without affecting other settings
Only change the Name value when you want to rename the listing. Do not replace the entire [General] section or rewrite unrelated options. A focused edit reduces the chance of changing connection, gameplay, or administrative settings accidentally. After the restart, confirm that the server still appears normally and that only its displayed name has changed.
