To rename a Satisfactory dedicated server, open Server Manager from the game’s main menu, select the server, authenticate with administrator credentials, open Server Settings, change the Server Name field, and click Apply. If the new name is not displayed, restart the server from your hosting panel. Do not confuse Server Name with Session Name: they are separate settings and have different effects.

What the setting changes
Server Name is the label players see when locating your dedicated server. Changing it does not rename the save file or necessarily change the name associated with the game session. Satisfactory’s interface can show both fields together, which is the main reason a rename may appear not to work.

No official developer documentation confirming the current labels or every reset procedure was available for this guide, so treat host-specific labels as version-dependent rather than universal.

Requirements before you start
- An installed Satisfactory dedicated server that appears in the game’s Server Manager.
- Administrator credentials for that server. A normal player account cannot be assumed to have permission to edit server settings.
- Access to the hosting control panel if a restart is required.
- A short, readable replacement name. Avoid a trailing period at the end of a session name; Windows can remove that period from a folder name and cause a save crash when blueprints are saved.
If other players are connected, tell them you will apply a setting and possibly restart the server. A restart interrupts the current session, so perform it during a safe period.
How to change the Satisfactory server name

Open Server Manager
Launch Satisfactory and choose Server Manager from the main menu. Select the dedicated server you want to rename. If several servers are listed, verify the address or other identifying details before editing anything.

Authenticate as an administrator
When prompted, enter the server’s Administrator Password, choose Authenticate, and then select Confirm if a confirmation dialog appears. The settings controls may remain unavailable until authentication succeeds.

Open Server Settings
With the server selected and authenticated, open the Server Settings tab. Locate the field labelled Server Name. Depending on the game version, the control may instead be labelled Change Server Name.

Enter the new name
Replace the existing value with the name you want players to see. Check that you are editing Server Name, not Session Name. Keep the name free of a final period, especially if you are also changing a session-related name.

Apply the change
Click Apply and wait for the settings request to finish. Leave the Server Manager open long enough for the control to acknowledge the change; closing it immediately can make it unclear whether the request was accepted.

Restart only if the new name is not visible
Reconnect to the server list or refresh the entry. If the old name is still shown, use your hosting panel’s normal Restart control. Apex Hosting reports that a name may remain unchanged when the server did not restart correctly. Do not delete server files as a first response to a display delay.
Server Name and Session Name are different

If your goal is simply to give the server a new listing label, edit Server Name and stop there. Editing saves or session metadata introduces additional risk and is not needed for an ordinary server rename.

If you actually need to rename the session
Some administrators discover that the server label changed but the session still has its old name. A community Q&A answer says that renaming the .sav file does not change the session name. A third-party save-editor guide likewise states that Server Manager may have no direct session-rename command and suggests downloading the save, renaming it with a tool, and uploading it again.
That workaround is not an official Satisfactory procedure. Use it only when changing the session identity is essential, and make a complete backup first:
- Stop the server cleanly from the hosting panel.
- Download the relevant save and preserve an untouched copy outside the server’s save directory.
- Use a reputable save-editing utility that supports your Satisfactory version; do not modify the only copy.
- Upload the edited save under the expected filename and restore it through the host’s documented method.
- Start the server and confirm that the correct world loads before deleting the backup.
Do not add a period as the final character of a session name. A community report links a trailing period to a Windows folder-name mismatch that caused a crash while saving blueprints.
Where hosting panels differ
The in-game Server Manager path is broadly consistent, but the supporting hosting controls are not. One host may provide a web file manager; another may require FTP for save transfers. Restart labels, permission prompts, and the location of backup controls also vary.

Use the hosting panel’s own stop, start, restart, and backup controls rather than deleting or editing configuration files by guesswork. If the panel shows an explicit restart type, choose the ordinary server restart after applying the new name and wait until the status indicates that the process is running again.

The old name is still listed
- Return to Server Manager > Server Settings and confirm that the value was entered in Server Name, not Session Name.
- Click Apply again and wait for the request to complete.
- Restart the server from the hosting panel, then leave and reopen Server Manager so the client requests fresh information.
The settings controls are locked
Authenticate with the administrator password before opening the settings. If authentication fails, verify the password in the hosting panel and make sure you selected the intended server. A player who can join the game is not automatically an administrator.
The button or field has a different label
Look for a control named Change Server Name or an equivalent text-entry control under Server Settings. Reports from hosting guides show label variation by version, so the absence of the exact words “Server Name field” does not prove that renaming is unsupported.
The server is offline or stuck after the restart
Check the hosting panel’s process status and console output. Do not repeatedly restart while a save is being written. If the server does not return, restore the last known-good backup and contact the host with the time of the failed restart and the settings change you made.

The listing changed but the session did not
This is the expected symptom when only Server Name was edited. Use the session-renaming workflow above only if you specifically need the save-related identity changed.
You are considering deleting a settings file
A community thread points to an unverified wiki procedure that deletes a file named in the pattern ServerSettings.<port> to clear a password, server name, and session name. The referenced wiki instructions were not confirmed, and deleting such a file could remove more settings than intended. Treat this as a last-resort, host-supported recovery operation only after making backups and obtaining current instructions for your server version.

A safe rename checklist
- Confirm that you selected the correct server.
- Authenticate as administrator.
- Edit Server Name, not Session Name.
- Use Apply and wait for acknowledgement.
- Restart from the hosting panel if the listing remains stale.
- Back up the save before attempting any session or save-file edit.
- Keep session names free of a trailing period.
- Record the old name and the time of the change so you can identify the correct server if several are hosted together.
What to expect after a successful rename
A successful Server Name change should alter the server’s displayed listing after the setting is applied and, when necessary, after a restart. It should not erase the world, require a new save, or change the save’s filename by itself. If the world or session identity also needs to change, that is a separate operation with different tooling and a higher risk of data loss.
Because the exact labels and reset behavior have not been confirmed in an official Satisfactory developer or wiki procedure, rely on the controls visible in your current Server Manager and your host’s current restart and backup documentation. The dependable sequence is still: authenticate, edit Server Name, apply, then restart if the old listing persists.
