Roblox has two settings people commonly mean by “display settings”: graphics quality inside an experience and the light or dark appearance of the app or website. Change graphics quality from the in-experience Settings menu; change the interface theme in the app’s or browser’s preferences.
Change graphics quality in a Roblox experience
Graphics quality affects the experience’s visual detail and the work your device has to do. Roblox’s Graphics Quality instructions describe the controls below.
- While playing, click the Roblox logo in the upper-left corner, or press Esc on a keyboard, to open the menu.
- Select Settings.
- For Graphics Mode, choose Automatic to let the device control graphics quality, or choose Manual to adjust it yourself.
- If you chose Manual, move the Graphics Quality slider right for better graphics or left for better performance. Resume the experience or press Esc to return.
These controls are in the experience menu, not your account profile settings. The available controls can vary by client, platform, or experience, so use the labels shown in your current Roblox version.
Change Roblox’s light or dark theme
The theme changes the app or website interface, not the 3D graphics inside an experience. Roblox’s theme instructions give these paths:

- iOS or Android app: More → Settings → Device preferences, then choose System, Dark, or Light.
- Desktop app: Select the three-dot More icon, then go to Settings → Device preferences and choose a theme.
- Website in a browser: Open the gear/settings menu, then choose Settings → Browser preferences → Theme.
The theme applies to the device currently in use. Roblox says consoles and VR currently support dark mode only.
Make Roblox run smoother if the visuals are choppy
First distinguish graphics lag from network lag. Roblox describes graphics lag as stuttering or choppy visuals; network lag can make other players appear to warp or delay in-experience actions.

- Open the in-experience menu and select Settings.
- Set Graphics Mode to Manual, then lower Graphics Quality.
- If performance remains poor, close other high-power apps that are running.
Lower graphics levels reduce some visual quality while asking the device to do less work, which may improve play when graphics performance is the problem. Roblox says a more powerful device may be needed if lag continues. See How to Reduce Lag and Speed Up Play.
If a computer shows graphics errors or visibly corrupted rendering rather than ordinary choppiness, Roblox lists insufficient graphics capability, outdated drivers, and changed graphics settings among possible causes. Its computer graphics troubleshooting includes checks such as verifying DirectX feature level and checking drivers. Those steps are for computers; the support guidance does not establish equivalent procedures for phones or consoles.

Other settings that affect what appears on screen
The in-experience Settings menu also includes volume, camera, graphics, and accessibility controls. These options affect different parts of the experience and are not substitutes for graphics quality or the app theme.
- Camera: Classic and Follow may be available when the experience developer has not locked the camera mode.
- Reduce Motion: Reduces or disables certain screen effects.
- Background Transparency: Makes interface backgrounds more opaque to improve contrast and legibility.
