Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTo change the phone number that receives Epic Games SMS two-factor authentication (2FA) codes, remove the existing SMS method in your account’s Password and security settings, then set up SMS again with the new number. Epic sends a verification code to the new number; enter it to enable SMS authentication.
Change the SMS number when you can sign in
- Sign in to your Epic Games account.
- Open Password and security in your account settings.
- In the SMS 2FA row, open the three-dot menu, choose Remove Method, and confirm.
- After Epic confirms SMS has been removed, choose Set Up for SMS authentication.
- Enter your new phone number and continue.
- Enter the code sent to that number, then choose Enable SMS Authentication.
Epic’s documented process is to remove and re-enroll the SMS method; it is not an edit to a separate account phone-number field. Epic’s SMS number-change instructions provide the steps.

If your old number prevents sign-in
- At the 2FA prompt, choose Try another way.
- Select Email Verification and enter the code sent to your account email address. If you have a saved 8-digit backup code, Epic says it can also be used to regain access where available.
- Once signed in, remove and set up SMS again under Password and security.
Epic recommends re-enabling 2FA after account recovery. See its account lockout and SMS number-change guidance.
If Epic rejects the new number or a code does not arrive
Epic says the region is unsupported
If you see “SMS to this region is not supported,” Epic says some regional numbers cannot be used for SMS 2FA. Try another number or choose another available method, such as an authenticator app. Epic does not publish a universal eligibility rule for every region on this support page. Epic’s list of 2FA methods explains the alternatives.

- If you play Fortnite experiences on a console device, you need to link your Epic Games account to your console account(s) so items purchased at Fortnite.com/item-shop appear across all of your linked accounts
- Requires internet connection, valid Epic account and prior acceptance of the terms
- Redemption: Online
SMS setup or delivery is not working
Epic recommends using an alternative 2FA option if SMS cannot be enabled. Its SMS code troubleshooting guidance covers problems receiving codes. The guidance does not establish a particular carrier requirement or delivery time.
Security settings keep looping
If you cannot open Password and security because verification repeats or loops, Epic suggests signing out and signing in again, trying a different browser or device, or using a private browser window. If it still fails, try again later.

Choose a backup 2FA method
Epic lists Epic Authenticator, third-party authenticator apps, email, and SMS as 2FA methods. Epic Authenticator is built into the Epic Games App and Epic Games Store App; examples of third-party apps on Epic’s support page include Google Authenticator, LastPass Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, and Authy. You can select which method is primary in security settings if you use more than one.
- SMS: requires access to a number that Epic accepts for SMS 2FA.
- Email: requires access to the email address associated with your account.
- Authenticator app: requires access to the app configured for your account.
Availability depends on what Epic offers for your account and region. Choose a method you can reliably access if you lose the phone number. Epic’s 2FA methods article lists the options.

Quick Recap
Best Value
- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.
