If you mean changing the number key used to equip an item, rearrange its slot in the in-experience inventory: open the hamburger menu, choose Inventory, then drag the item to a different numbered position. This changes gear hotkeys—not Roblox movement keys or every control in an experience.
Change the number key for a gear item
- Join an experience that has gear in its inventory bar.
- Open the hamburger menu in the upper-left corner of the screen.
- Select Inventory to open the backpack. The menu shows only features enabled for that experience, so Inventory may not be available in every one (Roblox Experience Controls).
- Click and drag the gear item to the inventory position you want.
- Close inventory mode with the backpack icon.
Roblox describes ten gear inventory slots, each marked with the keyboard number used to equip the item. Moving gear to another position changes the number key associated with it. The experience may limit which types of gear you can use (Roblox: How to Use Gear and The Backpack).
Change movement keys or other controls
The documented inventory method only rearranges gear slots. Roblox’s player-facing guidance does not describe a general procedure for remapping movement keys or all controls across experiences. Controls can be specific to the experience, so check that experience’s own instructions rather than assuming a gear-slot change will alter them.
Find controls and available settings in an experience
Open the in-experience hamburger menu and select Help to see the keyboard shortcuts, mouse instructions, or mobile gestures available for that experience. The Settings menu covers options such as volume, camera, graphics, and accessibility; it is not documented as a general key-remapping screen (Roblox: In-experience Settings and Help).

Some settings affect how controls behave without changing their key assignments. For example, camera-mode choices depend on whether the experience developer has locked the camera mode. Shift Lock and UI Navigation Toggle are also settings Roblox describes; UI Navigation Toggle controls whether the backslash key can enter or exit UI navigation mode. Availability and behavior can therefore depend on the setting and experience.
Controller controls are platform-specific
On PlayStation, Roblox says experiences can have different rules, controls, and mechanics, and directs players to the in-experience Help tab for controller mapping (Roblox PlayStation FAQ). That guidance concerns controller controls on PlayStation; it does not establish a way to remap computer keyboard keys.
