If you mean chat in an experience you play, Roblox does not document a universal account setting for changing chat text color. Check that experience’s own settings; its creator may have added a player-facing option. To change chat colors in an experience you own, use Roblox Studio and TextChatService. The chat window and bubbles above avatars have separate controls.
Can you change chat color as a Roblox player?
Roblox’s published color-customization guidance is for experience creators, not a platform-wide player setting. You cannot assume a change to your Roblox account will recolor chat across games. Look in the specific experience’s settings for an option, or ask its creator whether one is available. Roblox’s official migration announcement says creators can customize the default chat window in Studio.
How creators change chat colors
Use TextChatService in Roblox Studio. Roblox describes its default chat UI as customizable, with callbacks for formatting message appearance. Choose the route that matches what you want to recolor:

Change chat-window message colors
- Open your experience in Roblox Studio and use TextChatService rather than starting with a legacy chat customization recipe.
- Set up a
TextChatService.OnChatWindowAddedcallback to returnChatWindowMessagePropertiesfor the messages or prefixes you want to style. - Set the relevant text color properties in those message properties, then test the result in the chat window. Roblox documents this callback method as changing message bodies and prefixes without replacing the existing UI.
Roblox’s chat-window customization guide covers the callback and message properties. Its TextChatService API reference provides the service and callback details. These window callbacks do not change bubble appearance.

Change bubble-chat text color
In Studio, configure the experience’s BubbleChatConfiguration to adjust bubble appearance, including text color. Bubble customization is its own route; changing chat-window message properties does not automatically recolor text above avatars. Why older Roblox chat-color tutorials may not apply
Older examples may use legacy chat APIs such as ChatSpeaker:SetExtraData("ChatColor", ...). Roblox says TextChatService has no direct equivalent to that legacy method and points creators toward callbacks such as OnChatWindowAdded for current customization. Start with the current Text chat overview and check the Creator Hub documentation if Studio’s interface or API has changed.
