Change the password for the web panel that manages your Minecraft server—not the Minecraft in-game password or a service daemon credential. The exact menu depends on whether your host uses Multicraft, Pterodactyl, or a customized panel, and whether you are an ordinary user or an administrator. Start by identifying the panel, then use its account settings or password-recovery email flow. Do not regenerate Pterodactyl’s APP_KEY for a routine password change.

Identify which password you are changing
Minecraft hosting setups commonly have several unrelated credentials. Changing one does not automatically change the others.

This guide covers the first row: the password you type into the panel’s browser login. If a daemon cannot connect after a configuration change, or players cannot join because of a game-server setting, you are troubleshooting a different credential.
Before you begin
- Confirm the panel address and software name from your host’s welcome email or login page.
- Determine whether you are an ordinary panel user, a panel administrator, or the server owner who controls hosting support.
- Have access to the email address attached to the panel account if you may need a reset link.
- Choose a new, unique password. A password manager can generate and store it without reusing a Minecraft, email, or hosting password.
- Keep an existing session open until the new password has been tested, unless your provider specifically requires an immediate sign-out.
Panels are often rebranded or customized by the hosting provider. A button called Change password on one installation may be labeled Password, Security, or Edit profile on another.

Change a Multicraft password
Ordinary Multicraft user
- Open your host’s Multicraft login page and sign in with your current username and password.
- Open Profile. In the standard user interface, this is the account area rather than a server-management page.
- Choose the password-edit control. Depending on the provider’s theme, it may be an Edit password, Change password, or similar button.
- Enter your current password, then enter the new password in both new-password fields if the form provides confirmation fields.
- Save the profile. Wait for a success message or a return to the profile page before closing the tab.
- Sign out and sign in again with the new password. If the old session remains active, test the new credentials in a private browser window as well.
The Multicraft user guide notes that the panel can look different depending on the hosting provider. If you do not see a profile or password control, do not assume the account is broken; your provider may have moved or disabled self-service changes. Use the host’s support route and identify your panel username.
Multicraft administrator account
A fresh Multicraft installation may be documented with the example credentials admin / admin. Those credentials are installation defaults, not safe production credentials. On a real deployment, change them immediately.

- Open Users.
- Select the administrator account, commonly named
adminon a new installation. - Use the password-edit control, enter a strong replacement password, and save the user.
- Log out, then log back in with the new administrator password to verify the change.
The official installation guidance specifically instructs administrators to change the password under Users and then log in again with the new password. Do not leave the default account active or share its password in a team note. Create separate administrator accounts where your installation supports that option so that access can be revoked for one person without changing everyone else’s login.

If you cannot find the Multicraft control
- Check Profile rather than a server’s Advanced or Console page.
- Look for an account menu in the top-right corner; some providers move profile controls there.
- Confirm that you are in the panel’s user interface, not the provider’s billing portal. A billing password and a Multicraft password may be separate.
- Ask the hosting provider whether self-service password changes are enabled for your account.
Change a Pterodactyl password
Using the panel as a normal user
- Open the Pterodactyl panel URL supplied by your host and sign in.
- Open the account menu, then choose the account, profile, or security page. The exact label and location are controlled by the host’s panel version and theme.
- Select the password-change form.
- Enter your current password and a new password, then confirm the new password if requested.
- Save the change and look for a confirmation notice.
- Sign out and test the new password in a private window before closing your original session.
Pterodactyl installations can expose different navigation labels, but the principle is the same: change the user account password in the panel’s account controls. You do not need shell access for a normal self-service change when the host has enabled the account form.
Pterodactyl password requirements
The cited Pterodactyl getting-started documentation states that passwords must be 8 characters, mixed case, and include at least one number. A host may impose stricter rules, such as a symbol or a longer minimum, so follow the validation message shown by your panel. A compliant example should be unique to this panel; do not copy the example into a live account.
When an administrator must create or repair a user
On installations where the user cannot use the web form, an administrator with shell access can use Pterodactyl’s documented user-provisioning command:

The provider may restrict shell access, run the panel from a different working directory, or require a container-specific command. Ask the provider or panel administrator to perform the operation rather than running an unverified command on a managed host. The administrator should communicate a temporary credential through a secure channel and require the user to change it after signing in, if the installation supports that workflow.
Reset a forgotten panel password
Use the email recovery link first
- Open the panel login page.
- Select Forgot password, Reset password, or the equivalent link.
- Enter the email address or username associated with the panel account.
- Submit the form once, then check the inbox, spam folder, and any provider quarantine or filtering service.
- Open the message’s reset link promptly and set a new password that meets the panel’s requirements.
- Return to the login page and test the replacement password.
For Multicraft, an administrator contact email must be configured for password resets to work. The host can also enable password-change notifications. If no message arrives, repeatedly submitting the form is unlikely to fix a missing mail configuration; contact the hosting provider or panel administrator and provide the account username, panel URL, and approximate time of the request. Never send your existing password in a support ticket.
What to do when recovery email is unavailable
- Verify that you entered the address used for the panel account, not a billing or game account address.
- Ask an administrator to confirm the account’s email address without revealing the current password.
- Contact the host through its official support portal. The provider controls outgoing mail, branding, and reset availability.
- Be prepared to complete the host’s ownership checks. Support staff may refuse to reset an account without proof that you control the hosting subscription.
Do not create a second account to bypass a forgotten password if that account would have different server permissions. A new login may not inherit access to your existing servers, backups, files, or billing records.

Do not change Pterodactyl’s APP_KEY
Pterodactyl uses the environment setting APP_KEY to encrypt sensitive data, including API keys. Its documentation warns that if the key is lost, all encrypted data is irrecoverable even when database backups exist. A user-password change does not require changing this key.
- Leave
APP_KEYunchanged during a routine password update. - Do not regenerate the application key as a way to “reset” a login.
- Before any planned application migration, protect the existing key with the same care as the database and configuration backups.
Changing the key can invalidate encrypted values and create a much larger outage than the original login problem. If the key has already been replaced, stop making further changes and contact the administrator responsible for the installation; recovery depends on whether the original key and encrypted data are still available.

The new password is rejected immediately
- Type the password manually once to rule out a password-manager fill of the old value.
- Check capitalization, keyboard layout, and accidental spaces at the beginning or end.
- Confirm that you changed the same panel URL you are now using; a host can run separate production, staging, or customer panels.
- Use the panel’s reset flow if the account has become locked or the current-password field was entered incorrectly.
The save button reports a validation error
Read the exact message rather than guessing. Common causes include a password shorter than the panel minimum, no uppercase or lowercase letter, no number, mismatched confirmation fields, or an incorrect current password. Pterodactyl’s documented baseline is eight characters with mixed case and at least one number, while a provider can require more.

The password works in one tab but not another
Existing browser sessions can retain a valid session cookie after a password change. This does not prove that the old password still works. Sign out of the panel, close old tabs, clear only the panel’s cookies if necessary, and test the new credentials in a private window. If the host provides a session-management page, revoke sessions you no longer recognize. Session invalidation behavior is provider-dependent, so treat every old session as potentially active until you have signed it out or revoked it.
The reset email never arrives
- Check spam, junk, quarantine, and mailbox rules.
- Search for the panel name and the provider’s support address.
- Wait for the provider’s normal mail-delivery delay, then request one new message rather than many simultaneous requests.
- Ask the administrator to verify that an email address and mail service are configured for the panel.
- Escalate to the host if the panel confirms that a message was sent but nothing reaches the mailbox.
Servers disappear after signing in
A password change should not normally remove server permissions. If the account opens but no servers are listed, check whether you used a different username, panel instance, or provider URL. An administrator should inspect the account’s roles and server assignments. Do not create replacement servers or alter daemon settings until access has been confirmed, because those actions address authorization or configuration rather than a password problem.
Keep panel credentials separate and secure
- Use a different password for the panel, email account, billing portal, and server operating-system account.
- Store the new value in a password manager and update the saved entry immediately after testing it.
- Remove the old password from shared documents, chat messages, screenshots, and local notes.
- Limit administrator access to people who need it, and use individual accounts instead of one shared administrator login.
- Enable multi-factor authentication if the panel or hosting provider offers it.
- Review account notifications after the change so you can spot an unexpected reset or login.
Changing a password protects the panel account; it does not rotate API keys, daemon credentials, SSH keys, database passwords, or Minecraft operator permissions. Rotate those separately only when there is a specific reason and a documented procedure.

Verify the change safely
- Sign in once with the new password from a private browser window or a separate trusted device.
- Confirm that your expected servers, roles, files, and console access are still present.
- Sign out of old browsers and devices, or revoke their sessions when the provider offers session management.
- Update your password manager and remove the old value from shared notes.
- Record the panel URL and account username—not the password—in your recovery documentation.
If these checks pass, the panel login has been changed without touching the daemon credential, Minecraft server settings, or Pterodactyl encryption key.
