Open Settings → Privacy & content restrictions to adjust who can see your online status or current experience, who can chat with you, and who can access your private servers. On desktop, open Settings from the gear icon; in the mobile app, tap More → Settings. Parents managing a linked child account use Parental Controls. The options Roblox offers can vary by age and region.
Hide your online status or current experience
- Open Settings. On desktop, select the gear icon in the upper-right corner. On mobile, tap More in the bottom navigation, then Settings.
- Go to Privacy & content restrictions → Visibility & private servers → Visibility.
- Choose an audience for Online Status.
- Set Show current experience separately if you also want to limit who can see which experience you are playing.
Roblox may offer audiences such as friends, trusted friends, followers, people you follow, no one, or everyone, depending on your age and region. Roblox notes that restricting one visibility setting can affect related visibility controls. Roblox’s Account Privacy and Content Restrictions guide also lists Share activity updates as a separate activity-sharing control.
Change who can use chat with you
For experience chat, open Settings → Privacy & content restrictions → Communication → Experience chat. Roblox says communication settings let users limit who can chat with them. Experience chat requires an age check; some younger users need parental consent, and additional regional restrictions may apply. Chat is not the only way people can contact or interact with an account. Roblox provides controls for messages, following someone into games, and private-server invitations, as well as options to block or mute users. You can report a message that violates Roblox’s rules from the conversation. See Account Privacy and Content Restrictions and Roblox’s blocking instructions.

Set privacy controls for a child’s account
A parent or caregiver needs a Roblox account linked to the child’s account to manage eligible controls. From the parent account, open Settings → Parental Controls → Settings You Manage. For experience chat, go to Communication → Experience chat. For private-server access, use Visibility & private servers → Private Servers, then choose an available option, such as Friends or Off. The exact controls depend on the feature, the child’s age, and account eligibility. Roblox’s Experience Chat instructions and Parental Controls Overview describe these parent-managed paths.
Stop people from joining your private server
Private-server access is distinct from profile visibility. Changing who can see your online status or current experience does not itself set who can add you to or let you join a private server. Check the private-server controls under Settings → Privacy & content restrictions → Visibility & private servers; if you are managing a linked child account, use the Parental Controls path above. Server owners can also configure access, while account privacy settings may add restrictions. Defaults differ for users under 13. See Roblox’s privacy settings guide and Private Servers FAQ.

Use in-experience controls when you are playing
Roblox’s Experience Controls include an in-experience Chat toggle and a microphone toggle for voice chat. These are separate from account-wide privacy settings. Use them to change chat or microphone availability in the experience you are currently playing; review your account settings for persistent choices about who can contact or see you.
