Their setup and fixes differ. For Cloudbot, verify that it is enabled, has the right platform permissions, appears in the viewer list, and has the relevant command or feature turned on. For Desktop Chatbot, check its channel connection, command settings, and whether the app is online.
Desktop Chatbot or Cloudbot? Start here
Streamlabs uses similar names for two different chatbot options. The legacy Desktop Chatbot is an installed Windows application; Streamlabs says it must remain open and connected for the bot to stay in chat. Cloudbot is cloud-based. Streamlabs describes it as an option for Mac and Linux users as well as people who prefer a cloud service. Its chatbot comparison page was last updated July 7, 2026.

If you are unsure, check whether you open a separate chatbot application on Windows or manage the bot through your Streamlabs account. Use the troubleshooting section for that specific option; Cloudbot instructions do not necessarily apply to the legacy app.
Fix Cloudbot when it is missing or silent
Check that the bot has joined the channel
- Confirm Cloudbot is turned on for the platform you are using.
- Give it the required moderator permission: mod the bot on Twitch or Kick, or add Streamlabs as a moderator on YouTube. If you use a custom bot name, make sure that bot has the permission.
- Check whether the bot appears in the channel’s viewer list.
- Test a command. For YouTube, Streamlabs says the stream must be public for Cloudbot to join and respond.

If the bot is present but a command does not work
- Make sure the relevant module and command are enabled.
- Check the command spelling and provide any required input. A command that expects a username or message may not work if that information is missing.
- Check whether the command requires points or has a cost, and whether the viewer has enough points.
- Review its permission level and cooldown. A command can be enabled but unavailable to a particular viewer or temporarily unavailable after use.
If a timer does not post
- Check both the timer interval and its minimum chat-line requirement. Streamlabs says the line minimum counts chat lines from only the last five minutes.
- Remember that timers run in parallel. Two timers with the same interval can post together; they do not necessarily take turns.
- Check that the timer message does not require a username or other input that is unavailable when a timer posts.
Fix commands and timers in Desktop Chatbot
The steps below reflect Streamlabs’ legacy Desktop Chatbot FAQ, originally published November 23, 2017 and last updated April 10, 2025. Labels, dependencies, or account flows may differ in later software versions.
A command is not responding
- Check how the command is meant to be invoked: in chat or by whisper.
- Confirm the command is enabled and review its cost, currency setting, cooldown, and permission requirements.
- Check that the bot is connected to the correct streamer channel.
A timer is not posting
- The stream must be live.
- The bot must be connected to Streamlabs and show “Stream: online.”
- Both the minimum number of new chat lines and the timer interval must be reached.
- Check whether the timer text needs a username or message parameter that a timer cannot supply.
Messages appear in the chatbot console but not in stream chat
Check that the streamer channel selected in the bot connection is the channel you are actually streaming on. A mismatch can leave activity visible in the app without sending it to the intended chat.

Song requests or sound effects are not working
These are app-specific checks from the legacy FAQ, not verified fixes for every current installation.
- Song requests: Check whether requests are enabled, whether the viewer has enough currency, and whether the usage settings permit the request. The FAQ separately suggests resetting queue or settings files if those checks do not resolve the issue; back up relevant data before changing or removing files.
- Sound effects: Check the selected output or audio engine, whether the sound file exists and is in a supported format, whether Windows’ mixer has muted the app, whether the effect is restricted to live use, and whether a cooldown is active.
Scripts, startup problems, and crashes
A script is missing
Streamlabs’ script guidance says to reconnect the bot and streamer accounts in the Scripts tab and import a downloaded ZIP archive. Obtain scripts from the Chatbot Discord or another source you trust. The legacy FAQ and script guidance refer to Python 2.7.13 x86 and a particular Python path setup. Those documents do not establish that this old dependency remains appropriate or secure for current Windows systems, so do not install it simply because an older instruction mentions it.

The app will not start or keeps crashing
The legacy FAQ lists the Visual C++ runtime, administrator permissions, Windows Defender, and MSI Afterburner or RivaTuner as possible causes. These are troubleshooting leads from the dated FAQ, not confirmation that each is a current Desktop Chatbot dependency or the cause on your PC. If checking security software, avoid leaving protection disabled; use your organization’s or security product’s documented process. Do not download runtime installers from unofficial sites. Streamlabs’ separate general Desktop getting-started guidance discusses Visual C++ 2017 redistributables, but that does not independently establish a current chatbot-specific requirement.
When Cloudbot is the better fit
Cloudbot is the relevant Streamlabs option if you use Mac or Linux, or do not want an installed bot application to remain open. Streamlabs says Cloudbot is available even to people who have not switched to Streamlabs Desktop. Its import guide describes importing Nightbot or regular Streamlabs chatbot settings, but the available guidance does not establish complete feature parity between Cloudbot and Desktop Chatbot. Check the specific feature you need before switching.

Streamlabs’ Quick Guide, dated May 19, 2026 and last updated July 7, 2026, defines Cloudbot as “a robot assistant that lives in your chat.” For setup, link the applicable platforms, enable Cloudbot, and grant the needed moderator permission. Streamlabs’ own support guidance is the authority for current account steps and platform-specific permissions.
