A used PS5 disc is cheaper only if its delivered total is below the current PlayStation Store price for the same game edition in your region. Compare like for like, include shipping and applicable taxes, and check both prices on the same date; sale prices and physical listings can change.
Before comparing, make sure a disc is an option
A physical copy requires a PS5 that can play game discs. Check your console’s current official PlayStation hardware documentation to confirm disc-drive compatibility for your specific model; do not assume every PS5 configuration accepts discs.

Compare the same game, edition, and region
Search for the exact title and PS5 edition on both sides. A used standard edition is not a fair comparison with a digital deluxe edition, a bundle, a different platform version, or a listing that includes extra content. Check what each edition includes before comparing prices.
Use the PlayStation Store for the country or region where you buy games. The US Store has a deals page; for another region, check that region’s Store directly. Record the displayed price and any offer end date, since a sale can make digital the cheaper choice.

Calculate the delivered price of the used disc
For the physical listing, note whether it is used or new, the seller, the stated condition, and the total you would actually pay. Include shipping and applicable taxes. Marketplace listings may come from third-party sellers, so consider the seller’s condition description and the uncertainty that comes with a pre-owned copy.
Compare that delivered physical total with the current digital Store price using the same date and location. Shipping and tax treatment differ by seller and location, so a listing’s headline price alone does not settle the comparison.

Use price history to judge a digital sale
A tracker can add context when a current Store offer looks unusually good or you are deciding whether to wait. PSPrices describes regional price selection, price-history charts, sale notifications, and coverage of 50,000+ games; that coverage figure is the service’s own claim. Check that the selected region and edition match your intended purchase: PSPrices.
PS Store DB says its recorded game-price history begins on 31 August 2026. Its “lowest” figure means the lowest price recorded since that game’s history began, not necessarily an all-time low. Treat both services as independent third-party references rather than official PlayStation price records, and verify the live price in the Store: PS Store DB’s methodology.

Sony’s order-history support page explains how to view past purchases on an account. It is useful for checking your own transaction history, but it is not a public price-history chart.

- The used disc is cheaper: its delivered total is lower than the current digital price for the same edition and region.
- Digital is cheaper: the current Store price is lower than the physical delivered total, including shipping and taxes.
- The comparison is uncertain: the editions differ, listing condition is unclear, or a seller’s final charges are not yet known. Resolve those differences before treating either price as the better deal.
There is no single reliable savings figure for used PS5 games as a whole; the result depends on the game, region, date, listing, and any live Store sale. Tom’s Guide published a retailer comparison dated Friday, July 3, 2026, for several games, but those prices are a historical snapshot, not current offers, and its physical retailer examples do not establish that each copy was used: Tom’s Guide’s comparison.
