Open the game’s current official store page and its developer or publisher platform page before you buy. Confirm that your exact operating system or console is supported, then compare every published PC minimum—processor, memory, graphics, operating system and free storage. Check the recommended tier separately. A PC listing does not prove that a console version exists, and an announcement is not the same as a released build.
Use the workflow below for genuinely upcoming games and for the current worked example, Paralives, which entered Early Access on May 25, 2026.

1. Check whether your platform is actually supported
Compatibility starts with availability, not performance. A game can be designed for Windows and macOS while having no console edition, or it can be announced for one console family but not another. “Planned,” “announced” and “available” describe different states, so record the exact wording and date on the official page.
Find an explicit platform statement
Use the developer’s FAQ, press kit or publisher announcement alongside the current store listing. Look for a named operating system—such as Windows or macOS—or a named console family. “PC” is not a confirmation for PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo hardware, and a trailer showing a controller is not a platform announcement.

For example, the Paralives press kit describes the game as a PC and Mac life simulation and lists Steam as its store. Its FAQ, published March 3, 2026, says the game is single-player and available on Steam for PC and Mac. The same FAQ answered the question “Will Paralives be available on consoles?” with “There are no plans for console versions at the moment.” That was the studio’s position at the time of that post, not a permanent guarantee that a port can never be announced.
Check the exact edition and generation
Some projects have separate PC, current-generation console and older-generation editions. Verify the name of the game, edition, region where relevant, and console generation. A listing for a current console does not automatically include its predecessor, and a cloud or streaming version should not be treated as a native installation unless the publisher says so.
2. Separate minimum requirements from recommended requirements
Minimum requirements are the developer’s stated floor for launching the game on a supported configuration. They are not a promise of a particular frame rate, resolution, visual preset or save-file size. Recommended requirements are a higher target and usually the better reference if you want to play at the settings shown in previews.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Record every category
Copy the full list into a note or spreadsheet. Compare the precise processor family and speed, installed RAM, graphics processor, operating-system version, required runtime such as DirectX, and free storage. Matching only the graphics card can still leave a system below the CPU, memory or operating-system requirement.
If a listing omits a category for one platform, write “not stated” rather than assuming that the requirement is identical to another platform. Hardware architecture can matter as much as model names: an Apple-silicon requirement is not met by an Intel Mac simply because both run macOS.
Do not turn a threshold into a performance guarantee
Official requirement tables are specifications, not independent benchmarks. They do not establish how a particular computer will perform with a large household, a heavily modded installation, a busy city or a future update. If the listing gives an adjustment for low frame rate, treat it as a troubleshooting suggestion, not as evidence of a guaranteed result.

3. A repeatable compatibility check
- Identify the exact title. Write down the full game name, edition and store page. Requirements can differ between games in one franchise and can change between major updates.
- Open two official sources. Use the current store listing for the technical table and the developer or publisher page for platform plans, architecture notes and release status.
- Classify the platform status. Mark each platform as available, announced or only discussed. Use an explicit console listing for the exact console you own; do not infer console support from a PC page.
- Copy minimum and recommended specs separately. Keep operating system, CPU, RAM, GPU, storage and any architecture or runtime requirement in separate rows.
- Inspect your own machine. Record the actual model numbers and free space, not just a product family or the amount of memory you remember installing.
- Compare like with like. Check the precise CPU and GPU model where the publisher gives one. An integrated GPU, an older card with a similar name or a different Apple chip is not automatically equivalent.
- Classify the result. Decide whether the platform is unsupported, the system is below one or more minimums, it meets the minimum floor, or it reaches the recommended target. If a requirement is unclear, treat the result as unconfirmed rather than promising that it will run.
- Recheck close to release and after major updates. Use the date or version shown on the current listing. Early Access requirements, release plans and platform coverage can change.
4. Worked example: what the official Paralives pages say
Paralives is a useful example because the original “upcoming life sim” question now describes a recently launched Early Access game. The studio press kit records an Early Access date of May 25, 2026 and lists PC and Mac distribution through Steam. The current Steam listing is the authoritative place to read the published Windows and macOS requirements quoted below.
These figures are what the listing publishes; they are not a controlled test of every computer. Steam also warns that the game is not compatible with Macs using Intel processors. If frame rate is low, the listing suggests lowering resolution and graphics settings.
Windows requirements
| Target | Operating system | Processor | Memory | Graphics | Runtime and storage |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum | Windows 10 | Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 5 at 2.5 GHz | 12 GB RAM | GTX 1060 or RX 6600 XT | DirectX 11; 8 GB available storage |
| Recommended | Windows 11 | Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 5 at 3.0 GHz | 16 GB RAM | RTX 2060 or RX 7600 XT | DirectX 11; 8 GB available storage |
The minimum and recommended rows are separate targets. A Windows 10 computer with 12 GB of RAM and one of the listed minimum GPUs is not equivalent to the recommended Windows 11, 16 GB and higher-tier graphics configuration.
macOS requirements
| Target | Operating system | Processor | Memory | Graphics | Storage or runtime |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum | macOS Big Sur 11 or newer | Apple processor; Apple M2 | 12 GB RAM | Not separately stated on the listing | Not separately stated on the listing |
| Recommended | macOS Big Sur 11 or newer | Apple processor; Apple M3 | 16 GB RAM | Not separately stated on the listing | Not separately stated on the listing |
The Intel-Mac warning is decisive: an Intel processor does not satisfy the Apple-processor requirement. Do not substitute an Intel Mac because it has enough RAM or a recent macOS version.
“Will Paralives be available on consoles?”
The studio FAQ’s March 3, 2026 answer was that there were no plans for console versions at that moment. The press kit and Steam page establish PC and Mac availability, not a console release. If the studio later announces a port, verify the new announcement and the exact console listing instead of relying on the older FAQ.

For Windows, use the minimum row in the table and compare all five practical checks: Windows 10, the listed CPU class and 2.5 GHz speed, 12 GB RAM, GTX 1060 or RX 6600 XT graphics, and 8 GB of free storage, with DirectX 11. For macOS, the listing requires an Apple processor, macOS Big Sur 11 or newer, an Apple M2 and 12 GB RAM; Intel Macs are explicitly excluded. Meeting those thresholds still does not promise a chosen frame rate or graphics preset.

5. Find your actual PC specifications
Windows
- Open Settings > System > About and record the Windows edition and version, processor model and installed RAM.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager, choose Performance, and inspect the CPU, Memory and GPU panels. Record the GPU model shown there, not only the amount of video memory.
- Open File Explorer and choose This PC to check free space on the drive where the game will be installed. Compare free space with the listing’s stated requirement.
These checks identify your hardware; they do not translate one manufacturer’s model into another manufacturer’s equivalent. When the official table names a specific card or processor family, compare that exact model and architecture.
macOS
- Choose Apple menu > About This Mac and note the chip, memory and macOS version.
- Open the storage view in System Settings > General > Storage and record available space.
- Compare the chip generation and architecture directly with the listing. For Paralives, “Apple processor” is a requirement and an Intel chip is not supported.
6. How to interpret a mismatch
Your console is not listed
Stop the compatibility check at platform availability. A faster PC, a controller or a console accessory cannot create a native console version that the publisher has not announced. Wait for an explicit listing or use a supported platform.
Your operating system is older
An otherwise powerful computer can still fail the stated operating-system floor. Check whether the system can be updated through the manufacturer’s supported path; do not assume that a game requiring Windows 11 will run simply because it launches on Windows 10 in a video.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Your processor or RAM is below minimum
These are separate bottlenecks from the GPU. A graphics upgrade does not fix insufficient memory or an unsupported CPU. If several categories are below the floor, compare the total cost and practical effort of another supported computer rather than buying one component blindly.
Your graphics card is below minimum
First confirm that you recorded the discrete GPU model correctly and that the comparison is against the exact minimum card. For a desktop, a GPU upgrade is only a conditional option: check power-supply capacity, case dimensions, connector requirements, CPU balance and the rest of the minimum specification before purchasing. The published requirement does not prove that any particular replacement card fits your system.
You meet minimum but performance is poor
Use the game’s own guidance first: lower resolution or graphics settings when the listing recommends it. Close unnecessary applications, confirm that the game is using the intended GPU and check for driver or game updates. Do not describe the computer as “recommended” merely because it passes the minimum row.

The listing does not provide enough information
Mark the result as unconfirmed. Ask the developer through its official support channel or wait for a fuller requirements table. A broad statement such as “runs on PC” cannot replace a missing architecture, memory or graphics requirement.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute7. Console-specific verification
Console checks are shorter because you generally cannot compare individual components, but they require exact platform evidence.
- Open the official console store page or the publisher’s platform announcement.
- Confirm the exact family and generation, such as the specific PlayStation or Xbox model named by the publisher.
- Check whether the listing is for the same edition and region you intend to buy.
- Look for a release status—available, dated, announced or otherwise planned—and save the page date because plans can change.
- Do not use a PC-only Steam page as confirmation for any console.
8. Why “upcoming” information can become stale
Life-sim projects often publish technical details before launch, when hardware targets and production plans are still moving. A delayed project can receive a revised requirement table; an Early Access build can change as features are added; a planned game can be canceled.
Paradox Interactive demonstrated the last case in its official statement, “Life by You is Cancelled”: “Sadly, we’ve decided to cancel the release of our long-awaited life sim Life by You.” A page that once listed that game as upcoming would no longer be a valid purchase forecast.
Platform road maps can also describe experiments rather than firm products. In its announcement about the future of The Sims, Electronic Arts said future experiences span PC, console and mobile, while describing Project Rene as a separate mobile-first social game. The same announcement cautioned that “Some concepts evolve and sometimes an experiment won’t move forward at all.” Treat that language as context, not as a guaranteed release on every named platform.

For Paralives, the studio’s development updates describe a delayed schedule, a new Early Access date and the addition of requirements to the Steam page. The current store listing is the better source for the numerical specifications, while the dated updates explain why an older article may show different timing.
9. A simple decision table
| What you find | What it means | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| Your exact console or operating system is explicitly listed and every minimum is met | Official information supports compatibility at the stated floor | Decide whether the minimum target suits your desired settings; check the current listing again before purchase |
| Your platform is listed but one or more PC minimums are not met | The computer is below the developer’s published threshold | Investigate the specific bottleneck or use another supported device; do not rely on the GPU alone |
| You meet minimum but not recommended | The system reaches the floor, not the higher target | Expect to tune settings if necessary and avoid promising a particular frame rate |
| Your console is not explicitly listed | Compatibility is unconfirmed, even if a PC version exists | Wait for an official console announcement or listing |
| The requirements or release status are dated, vague or contradictory | The available information is too unstable for a firm verdict | Use the newest official store and developer pages and recheck near release |
10. The practical rule
Answer two different questions in order: “Is this exact platform supported?” and “Does this PC meet the complete published requirements?” For an upcoming life sim, the first answer comes from an official platform listing; the second comes from a full minimum-versus-recommended comparison. Keep those answers separate, record the date, and revisit them when the game reaches release or a major update.
