Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteFind the game’s current official PC requirements, then compare them with your PC’s operating system, processor, graphics card, memory and available storage. If every minimum requirement appears to be met, your PC matches the publisher’s stated baseline—not a guaranteed frame rate or smooth experience. For an unreleased game, treat the result as provisional and check the official listing again near launch.
Find the game’s current PC requirements
Start with the publisher’s website or the store where you plan to buy the game. On Steam, scroll down the game’s store page to System Requirements. Check supported operating systems as well as hardware: a match on components alone does not establish that your operating system is compatible. Steam Support explains where requirements and supported operating systems appear on Steam store pages.
Record the minimum and recommended requirements separately. For each tier, note the operating system, CPU, GPU, RAM and storage, plus any stated DirectX version, shader level or other graphics feature. If the publisher identifies a target resolution, graphics preset or frame rate, record it with that tier. Without a stated target, “recommended” does not tell you what resolution, settings or FPS to expect.
Identify your PC’s specifications
On Windows, search for dxdiag and open the DirectX Diagnostic Tool. Microsoft’s instructions use the System tab to show the installed DirectX version under System Information. The display information can help identify your graphics device. If you need to verify the exact device model, confirm it in Windows or consult the computer or component maker’s documentation. Microsoft’s DxDiag instructions describe how to check the installed DirectX version.

Gather the same fields the game listing uses:
- Operating system: Windows version and whether the game requires a 64-bit system.
- CPU: the exact processor model, not just its manufacturer or a broad label such as “gaming PC.”
- GPU: the exact graphics-card model, along with any stated DirectX or shader requirements.
- RAM: installed system memory.
- Storage: the game’s required space and the space currently available on the intended drive.
Compare minimum and recommended requirements
| What to compare | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Does your Windows version meet the listed OS and 64-bit requirements? | Does your system meet the recommended OS requirement? |
| CPU | Compare your exact processor model with the minimum model. | Compare it with the recommended model. |
| GPU and graphics features | Check the exact GPU and every listed DirectX, shader or other graphics requirement. | Check the recommended GPU and any additional graphics features. |
| RAM | Compare installed memory with the minimum. | Compare installed memory with the recommended amount. |
| Storage | Check that enough space is available for the listed minimum. | Check the recommended storage figure if one is given. |
Compare model names, not just brands or a component’s general category. A stronger CPU does not make up for a GPU that misses a listed graphics requirement, and extra RAM does not resolve an operating-system incompatibility.
Pay particular attention to the GPU’s capabilities. Steam Support cautions that a card can meet a game’s minimum DirectX requirement yet still lack the required pixel-shader level. As Steam puts it, “If you are not sure what Pixel Shader level your video card can support, there is a chance that your video card will not be capable of running a game that requires an advanced Pixel Shader model – even if your card meets the minimum DirectX requirements.” DirectX version alone does not establish shader compatibility.

Interpret the result without overpromising
If your PC appears to meet all minimum requirements
It appears to match the publisher’s stated baseline. That does not promise smooth play, a specific FPS, a particular graphics preset or even identical results on every system. Minimum specifications do not establish a specific performance result. iTechGuides explains this distinction; the publisher’s listing remains the authority for the game’s stated requirements.
If your PC misses a minimum requirement
Expect a greater risk that the game will not launch or will perform poorly, but the effect of a shortfall depends on the game and the component. Do not call the game impossible to run unless the publisher identifies a hard incompatibility.

If your PC appears to meet recommended requirements
This is a stronger sign than meeting only the minimum, but it still does not reveal the intended experience unless the publisher states a target such as resolution, settings or frame rate.
If the game is unreleased or its listing is incomplete
Call the answer uncertain. Do not treat a third-party “Can I Run It?” score as conclusive, especially when official requirements are missing. Recheck the publisher’s or store’s listing near release, since requirements can change before launch.
