If by “the new Harry Potter RPG” you mean Hogwarts Legacy, compare your Windows version, processor, memory, graphics card and VRAM, DirectX support, and available storage with the game’s official PC specification tiers. Your result depends on the weakest component: matching the graphics card is not enough if the processor, RAM, operating system, or drive space misses the same tier.

The title is ambiguous, so treat Hogwarts Legacy as the most likely interpretation rather than a confirmed identification. If you mean another Harry Potter game, use that game’s own official requirements instead; the figures below should not be transferred automatically.

First, confirm which Harry Potter game you are checking

“A new Harry Potter RPG” is not a unique PC product name. The official specification page located for this question is for Hogwarts Legacy, an open-world role-playing game set at Hogwarts. That makes it the most plausible referent, but it remains an inference from the wording of the title. A different game, edition, launcher, or future release can have different requirements.

Before comparing hardware, check the exact product name in the store listing, installer, or announcement you intend to use. If it does not say Hogwarts Legacy, stop and find the matching developer or publisher specification page. Do not assume that a game with the same fictional universe will use the same CPU, GPU, memory, storage, or operating-system requirements.

Official PC requirements for Hogwarts Legacy

The publisher presents four hardware tiers. Each tier combines a performance target with example components. The target is an aim for that preset and resolution, not a promise that every computer with one matching part will achieve the stated frame rate. Every displayed tier lists 64-bit Windows 10 and DirectX 12.

Tier and publisher target Processor Memory Graphics card Storage and drive type
Minimum/Low — 720p at 30 frames per second on low quality Intel Core i5-6600 at 3.3 GHz or AMD Ryzen 5 1400 at 3.2 GHz 16 GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 4 GB or AMD Radeon RX 470 4 GB 85 GB; hard-disk drive supported, solid-state drive preferred
Recommended/High — 1080p at 60 frames per second on high quality Intel Core i7-8700 at 3.2 GHz or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 at 3.6 GHz 16 GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT, or Intel Arc A770 85 GB on an SSD
Ultra — 1440p at 60 frames per second on ultra quality Intel Core i7-10700K at 3.80 GHz or AMD Ryzen 7 5800X at 3.80 GHz 32 GB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT 85 GB on an SSD
Ultra 4K — 2160p at 60 frames per second on ultra quality Intel Core i7-10700K at 3.80 GHz or AMD Ryzen 7 5800X at 3.80 GHz 32 GB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT 85 GB on an SSD

The CPU and GPU names in the table are examples supplied by the publisher, not a built-in equivalency calculator. A model that is newer, has a different suffix, or comes from another product family cannot be judged reliably from its name alone. Treat an unlisted part as uncertain until you check current component benchmarks or updated official support information.

Check your Windows installation and processor

Find the Windows edition and system type

  1. Open Settings from the Start menu.
  2. Select System, then About.
  3. Read Windows specifications for the edition and version, and read System type to confirm that the installation is 64-bit.

The requirements list Windows 10 64-bit in every tier. If your PC uses a 32-bit installation or an older Windows release, it does not meet the stated operating-system baseline, even if its processor and graphics card appear fast enough. The table does not establish support for another operating system, so do not infer compatibility from hardware alone.

Record the exact CPU model

  1. Remain on Settings > System > About.
  2. Copy the complete text shown beside Processor, including the model number and any suffix.
  3. Compare the model with the CPU examples in the tier you want. Keep the clock speed and model designation together; “Core i7” or “Ryzen 5” by itself is too broad to make a match.

For a minimum check, compare with the minimum/low row. For a 1080p high-quality goal, use the recommended/high row rather than treating the minimum row as sufficient. If you are targeting either ultra row, compare with that specific row instead of assuming that a processor meeting a lower tier will scale to a higher resolution.

Check installed RAM and the graphics card

Read total system memory

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  2. Select Performance in the left navigation.
  3. Choose Memory and note the total capacity shown in gigabytes.

Compare total installed memory with the selected tier, not with a single game-setting preference. The minimum/low and recommended/high rows use the same memory amount, while both ultra rows require the larger amount listed in the table. Windows may report slightly less available memory because the operating system and other software are using part of the installed total; do not count free memory as if it were additional physical RAM.

Identify the GPU that the game will use

  1. In Task Manager > Performance, inspect each entry labelled GPU.
  2. Record the full graphics-card name and the dedicated GPU memory shown for it.
  3. If the computer has both integrated and discrete graphics, note which adapter is connected to the display or selected by the game and graphics-driver settings.

The minimum/low row explicitly names 4 GB versions of its example cards. That VRAM figure is part of the listed configuration; a similarly named card with a different memory capacity should not be treated as identical. For higher tiers, compare the complete GPU model to the corresponding row. A computer can show a powerful discrete card in Task Manager while a game is configured to launch on the integrated adapter, so checking only the existence of a discrete GPU can produce a false “pass.”

Laptop naming is especially easy to misread. A mobile GPU may share a family name with a desktop card but have different power limits and performance. If the exact laptop model is not in the official list, use current independent benchmarks or the manufacturer’s specifications to establish whether it is a reasonable equivalent; the publisher’s table alone does not establish equivalence.

Verify DirectX support and free storage

Check DirectX

  1. Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog.
  2. Enter dxdiag and press Enter.
  3. On the System tab, read DirectX Version.
  4. Use the Display tabs to review the active graphics adapter and its reported feature information.

DirectX 12 is listed across all four official tiers. If the diagnostic tool reports an older DirectX version, the PC does not match the stated API requirement. The DirectX version by itself does not prove that the GPU reaches a particular frame-rate target; it is one compatibility gate alongside the processor, memory, graphics card, and storage checks.

Measure available drive space

  1. Open File Explorer.
  2. Select This PC in the left pane.
  3. Find the drive where you plan to install the game and read the Free space value.
  4. Confirm whether that drive is an HDD or SSD if you are aiming for a tier that specifies an SSD.

The listing allocates 85 GB in every tier. Minimum/low allows an HDD but prefers an SSD; all three higher entries specify an SSD. The figure is the game’s listed storage requirement, not a recommendation to fill a drive to its last remaining gigabyte. Leave practical working room for the operating system, updates, save files, and other applications rather than treating exactly the listed capacity as a comfortable long-term margin.

If the game is installed on a different volume from the one shown first in File Explorer, check that volume specifically. A PC can have ample free space on one drive and still fail the installation because the selected library or launcher location is nearly full.

Match your results to the outcome you want

For a basic playable target

Use the minimum/low row when your priority is reaching the publisher’s entry-level target at low visual quality. Every listed category must meet that row: 64-bit Windows 10, DirectX 12, the example processor class, 16 GB of RAM, the example 4 GB graphics class, and the stated storage arrangement. This tier targets 720p and 30 frames per second, so it is not a promise of 1080p, 60 frames per second, or high visual settings.

Rank #4

For 1080p at 60 frames per second

Choose the recommended/high row for the publisher’s 1080p, 60-frame-per-second high-quality target. Do not use a minimum match as evidence for this outcome. A PC that reaches the minimum row may still need lower resolution, lower settings, or a lower frame rate to remain playable.

For 1440p or 4K

The two ultra rows are separate targets. Ultra corresponds to 1440p at 60 frames per second, while Ultra 4K corresponds to 2160p at 60 frames per second. Compare against the row that matches your monitor resolution and desired preset. The 4K row is not simply an optional texture setting; it specifies a higher graphics class while retaining the same ultra-quality objective.

Apply the weakest-component rule

A tier is a set, not a menu. Passing the CPU but missing the GPU does not create a partial pass, and extra RAM cannot compensate for a graphics card below the selected row. Mark each category separately, then assign the highest tier for which all categories meet the listed baseline. If one category is uncertain, label the entire result “uncertain” rather than upgrading it to a pass based on the other parts.

How to handle hardware that is not listed

Official requirement tables usually show representative models rather than every CPU and GPU ever sold. The Hogwarts Legacy page does not provide an equivalency calculator, a complete ranking, or a rule for converting laptop parts to desktop parts. As a result, a model absent from the table cannot be classified conclusively from the table alone.

Use a current benchmark comparison carefully

  1. Write down the exact model, suffix, memory capacity, and whether it is a laptop or desktop component.
  2. Find a current benchmark comparison that tests the same model against one of the publisher’s listed examples.
  3. Check that the comparison uses a similar resolution, graphics preset, and frame-rate metric.
  4. Keep the result qualified: a benchmark can indicate likely performance, but it does not replace the publisher’s stated requirement or guarantee behavior on your complete system.

Avoid judging by generation number alone. Architecture, core count, power limit, VRAM capacity, cooling, and laptop configuration can all change the outcome. If reliable comparison data is unavailable, the responsible answer is “not established,” followed by the official row you can verify.

What to do when one component falls short

Insufficient storage

Free space is the simplest shortfall to diagnose. Remove or move files only if you can preserve the data you need, or choose another compatible drive with enough capacity. The game page establishes the 85 GB requirement and the SSD preference or requirement by tier, but it does not establish which physical drive interface or form factor your computer accepts. Check the PC or motherboard documentation before buying any replacement or additional drive.

Not enough RAM

Confirm the total installed memory in Task Manager rather than relying on a retailer listing or a single module label. If the total is below the selected row, the PC does not meet that row as listed. Whether an upgrade is possible depends on free memory slots, module type, motherboard limits, and laptop construction; those details cannot be inferred from the game requirements.

Older or weaker graphics hardware

A graphics-card shortfall affects the tier’s resolution, quality, and frame-rate target. Do not claim that lowering one setting turns a below-minimum card into an officially supported configuration; the publisher supplies no such conversion. First confirm that the game is using the intended adapter, then compare the exact model and VRAM with the table. If it remains below the minimum row, treat launch and performance as unsupported by the listed specification.

Older processor or unsupported Windows version

Processor and operating-system misses are separate from GPU performance. A fast graphics card cannot make a 32-bit or otherwise unlisted Windows installation meet the stated baseline. Likewise, a processor below the minimum example should be treated as a shortfall even if the GPU is newer. Check the manufacturer’s upgrade limits and the official game support information before spending money; the requirement table does not identify a universal CPU or operating-system upgrade path.

Common checking mistakes

  • Calling the minimum row “recommended.” The minimum/low target is a lower-resolution, lower-quality outcome than the recommended/high target.
  • Comparing only one component. A graphics-card match does not override a CPU, RAM, Windows, DirectX, or storage failure.
  • Ignoring VRAM capacity. The minimum examples are specifically 4 GB versions, not every card carrying the same family name.
  • Reading free space from the wrong drive. Installation space must exist on the selected library or install volume.
  • Assuming every newer model is equivalent. The official rows name examples and do not publish a model-by-model equivalency list.
  • Forgetting multiple GPUs. Integrated graphics may be selected even when a discrete adapter is installed.
  • Treating targets as guarantees. The listed resolutions and frame rates are publisher targets for the corresponding tiers, not a promise for every PC or every scene.
  • Reusing these figures for another Harry Potter title. Requirements are game-specific; confirm the exact product first.

A practical pass-or-pause checklist

Complete this checklist before buying or downloading:

  1. Confirm that the game is Hogwarts Legacy, not another Harry Potter release.
  2. Record the Windows edition, version, and 64-bit system type from Settings > System > About.
  3. Record the complete processor model from the same page.
  4. Record total RAM and every GPU with its dedicated memory from Task Manager > Performance.
  5. Run dxdiag and confirm DirectX 12.
  6. Check free space and drive type on the exact installation volume in File Explorer.
  7. Choose the desired outcome: minimum/low, recommended/high, Ultra, or Ultra 4K.
  8. Compare every category with that row and mark any unlisted component as uncertain.
  9. If one category misses, lower the intended tier or investigate a hardware or storage change without assuming that the change is supported.
  10. Recheck the official specification page if the listing may have changed, because the retrieved page does not show a publication or revision date.

Bottom line for your PC check

For the likely game, Hogwarts Legacy, start with the official tier that matches the experience you want, then verify your own Windows installation, CPU, RAM, GPU and VRAM, DirectX version, and installation drive one by one. The minimum row answers “does my PC meet the entry-level listed baseline?”; the recommended and ultra rows answer progressively higher resolution, quality, and frame-rate goals. If the title refers to a different Harry Potter RPG, discard this table and use that game’s official requirements instead.
