To check whether your PC can run Gears of War: E-Day, compare seven separate items—Windows version, processor, RAM, graphics card and ray-tracing support, DirectX, broadband connectivity, and SSD space—with the game’s current minimum and recommended specifications. Steam Support currently lists 115 GB of available SSD space, 12 GB of RAM at minimum, and a hardware ray-tracing-capable GPU as mandatory baseline requirements.
Use the Windows checks below to record your exact hardware before buying or upgrading anything. Meeting the minimum tier establishes that your configuration matches the published baseline; it does not promise a particular frame rate, resolution, preset, or consistency.

What “meets the requirements” actually means
Minimum is an eligibility baseline
The minimum list answers whether your PC reaches the published starting point. It is not a frame-rate guarantee. The specification page does not establish a guaranteed FPS, resolution, graphics preset, or experience for every system that matches those models.
Recommended is a stronger starting point
Recommended parts represent additional headroom compared with the baseline. They do not turn the named CPUs or GPUs into a formal equivalence chart, and the list does not promise identical results across different manufacturers or system configurations.
Ray tracing is a required GPU feature
Steam Support explicitly requires a hardware ray-tracing-capable graphics card even at minimum. Do not infer support from a card’s age, price, or model number alone. Verify the exact GPU model and its hardware features.
Storage figures can change
Older articles and unofficial pages have shown different installation sizes. The live Steam Support listing currently says 115 GB available and an SSD, so use that figure when checking space and revisit the listing before purchasing or installing.
How to collect your PC’s specifications in Windows
1. Check Windows edition, version, build, and architecture
- Open Settings from the Start menu.
- Select System, then About.
- Record Windows specifications: edition, version, and OS build.
- Under Device specifications, find System type and confirm that Windows is 64-bit.
Compare all four details with the operating-system row, not just the words “Windows 10” or “Windows 11.” The minimum listing specifies 64-bit Windows 10, version 22H, build 19045.7291. The recommended listing specifies 64-bit Windows 11, version 25H2 or newer. A machine can have suitable hardware and still miss the stated Windows target.
2. Identify the processor and installed memory
- Stay in Settings > System > About.
- Read the Processor field and copy the complete model name.
- Read Installed RAM and record the amount in gigabytes.
- For a second view, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager, choose Performance, and inspect CPU and Memory.
Compare the CPU model and RAM as separate tests. The minimum memory target is 12 GB; recommended is 16 GB. Having enough memory does not compensate for a processor below the listed CPU tier, and a qualifying processor does not make up for insufficient RAM.
3. Find the graphics card and check which GPU a game will use
- Open Task Manager with Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
- Select Performance, then choose each GPU entry in the left column.
- Record the model name, dedicated memory information, and whether the computer has more than one GPU.
- On a laptop with integrated and discrete graphics, note the discrete adapter normally assigned to games; Windows may display both.
Match the exact model to the graphics row and separately confirm hardware ray-tracing capability. Do not rely on a generic label such as “gaming GPU,” an integrated-graphics name, or a higher-looking number from another product family. If two adapters are listed, compare the one the game is expected to use and investigate driver or Windows graphics settings if that is unclear.
4. Verify DirectX
- Open the Start menu and type
dxdiag. - Run DirectX Diagnostic Tool. Approve the prompt if Windows asks whether it should check digitally signed drivers.
- On the System tab, read DirectX Version.
- Use the Display or Render tabs to confirm which graphics adapters and driver entries Windows detects.
The game lists DirectX 12 for both tiers. The diagnostic tool confirms the installed DirectX version, while the display tabs help expose a disabled, unexpected, or secondary adapter that could otherwise make a comparison misleading.
5. Confirm the destination drive is an SSD with enough free space
- Open Settings > System > Storage.
- Check free space on the specific drive where you intend to install the game.
- Confirm that drive is an SSD rather than a hard-disk drive. Windows may identify drive type in Settings > System > Storage > Advanced storage settings > Disks & volumes; your PC maker’s storage utility can also identify it.
- Compare the available space with 115 GB, leaving room for Windows updates, temporary files, and other software rather than treating the requirement as a comfortable operating margin.
The requirement applies to the installation destination, not merely to total capacity spread across several drives. If the destination is an HDD, or has less than the listed free space, remove or move data first. Only then consider an internal SSD upgrade, after checking the computer’s physical format, interface, firmware support, and available slot.
6. Check connectivity and audio basics
- Network: The listing calls for a broadband internet connection. Confirm that the PC can reliably reach the internet at the location where you will install and play.
- Sound: The requirement is a Windows-compatible audio device. In Settings > System > Sound, make sure Windows detects an output device and that it is not disabled.
These entries are simple compatibility checks, but they are still part of the published specification and should not be skipped when diagnosing a setup that otherwise appears compliant.
How to compare your results with each tier
Create a small checklist with one line per requirement and mark each as meets minimum, below minimum, or uncertain. Use the exact model and Windows build you recorded rather than a broad description of the computer.
| Result pattern | What to do next |
|---|---|
| Every row meets minimum | Your PC matches the published baseline. Do not interpret that match as a guaranteed FPS or visual-quality result. |
| Every row meets recommended | Your configuration matches the stronger published tier, while real performance can still vary with drivers, background software, and game updates. |
| Only storage is below minimum | Free space or move data to a suitable SSD; assess a compatible internal SSD only after checking the computer. |
| GPU lacks hardware ray tracing | The minimum graphics condition is not met. Do not treat extra RAM or a CPU upgrade as a substitute for that GPU capability. |
| Windows version or build is below the listing | Check Windows Update and the PC’s support status before assuming a hardware purchase will solve the mismatch. |
| Several rows are below minimum | Identify every shortfall before spending money. Upgrading one component does not establish that the remaining rows qualify. |
What to do when a check is uncertain
Do not guess from a computer’s marketing name. Search Windows for the complete CPU and GPU model, including any suffix such as “K,” “XT,” or a laptop designation, and compare that exact text with the listing. A desktop and laptop can share a family name while using different hardware. If Task Manager shows an adapter as disabled or Windows reports a generic display driver, resolve that detection issue before deciding that the GPU fails.

Version checks deserve the same care. Write down the OS build number rather than assuming that an automatic update has installed the required release. If Windows Update offers a supported update, complete it and restart before repeating the comparison. If the computer cannot install the listed Windows version, that is an operating-system compatibility problem, not something more RAM will fix.
For storage, measure the free space after closing other installers and allowing pending updates to finish. A drive that barely exceeds 115 GB may fall below the threshold during installation. Keep the game on the SSD that has the available space; unused capacity on a separate HDD does not satisfy the destination-drive requirement.
Upgrade decisions: fix the actual bottleneck
Use the checklist to avoid buying parts that do not address the failure. If only the drive is short, remove or move files first. If the drive itself is an HDD, investigate a compatible internal SSD. Verify the computer’s physical format, interface, firmware support, and available slot before ordering; the published requirement does not identify a universal SSD size or connector for every PC.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsA missing ray-tracing-capable GPU is a different class of problem. Additional RAM cannot supply that feature, and a CPU upgrade does not change the graphics adapter. Likewise, 16 GB of memory does not make a processor meet the recommended CPU row. When several rows fail, list them all and check whether the platform can support the needed changes before spending money.
Drivers and background applications can affect real play even when every row matches. Close unnecessary software, keep Windows and graphics drivers current, and use the game’s current support page for any launch-day updates. These steps improve troubleshooting but do not convert the requirement table into a frame-rate promise.
Common checking mistakes and how to resolve them
Using total disk capacity instead of free space
A “1 TB” label describes capacity, not the room currently available. Inspect the free-space figure on the exact installation drive. If several drives are installed, select the SSD you will actually use.
Checking RAM but not the CPU
Memory and processor are independent rows. Record both model names and compare them separately; 12 GB or 16 GB of RAM cannot establish CPU compliance.

Integrated graphics and a discrete adapter may both appear in Task Manager. Confirm which adapter a game will use, then compare that model and its ray-tracing capability with the table.
Assuming a newer Windows label is automatically valid
Read the edition, architecture, version, and build. The published targets include specific version information, so “Windows 10” or “Windows 11” by itself is incomplete.
Treating a model-number comparison as a benchmark
The listed CPUs and GPUs are storefront examples. They are not a cross-brand ranking and do not provide a reliable FPS prediction for every neighboring model. Use the requirement as a compatibility screen, not as a performance review.
Relying on a cached requirements page
System requirements and storage needs may be revised. Open the current Steam Support page immediately before buying hardware or beginning a large download, and compare its live rows with your saved checklist.

Advanced Shader Delivery: helpful, but separate from the requirements
Microsoft’s DirectX Developer Blog described Advanced Shader Delivery (ASD) for Gears of War: E-Day on October 1, 2026. Microsoft says ASD supplies precompiled shaders with the game download, reducing CPU shader work at launch and during runtime compilation. Its stated result is: “ASD reduces shader compilation time by approximately 95%, helping players get into the game faster.” Read the Microsoft DirectX announcement for the feature’s current status.

ASD has its own conditions and is not a replacement for the Steam requirements:
- Windows 11 version 24H2 or higher.
- Supported AMD RDNA architectures with driver 26.6.1 or higher.
- Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 Series with driver 2026.08.3 or higher.
- The article said Intel Arc B-Series, Intel Core Ultra Series 2 and 3, and all NVIDIA RTX GPUs would be supported later that month. That was a forward-looking statement on October 1, 2026, so verify the current support status before relying on it.
- Microsoft says to install the Xbox PC app before downloading in order to experience ASD for E-Day.
A system can satisfy ASD’s conditions and still fail the game’s minimum CPU, GPU, RAM, storage, or other requirements. Conversely, passing the Steam minimum does not establish that every ASD condition is present.
Release and listing context
The Coalition studio head Mike Crump announced the final PC specifications on Xbox Wire on September 17, 2026, alongside the statement that the game had gone gold and that pre-install would begin September 29. The page includes an editor’s note saying the PC-specifications image was updated September 28, 2026. The game’s listed release date is October 6, 2026.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The image’s detailed values are not exposed in the article text, so the Steam Support page is the practical source for the row-by-row comparison in this guide. Because storefront requirements can change, check that live page again on the day you install. In particular, use its current 115 GB storage figure instead of older third-party numbers.
Make the install decision without guessing
- Write down your Windows edition, version, build, and 64-bit status.
- Record the exact CPU model, RAM amount, GPU model, ray-tracing capability, DirectX version, SSD free space, network availability, and audio device.
- Compare every row with the current minimum column.
- If all minimum rows pass, decide whether the recommended column is a more appropriate target for your expectations; do not infer a frame-rate guarantee from either column.
- If a row fails, investigate that specific bottleneck. Storage problems may be solved by freeing space or using a verified compatible SSD; a missing ray-tracing-capable GPU or outdated operating system requires a different remedy.
- Recheck the live listing before committing money or starting the download, since requirements and storage figures can be updated.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can my PC run Gears of War: E-Day if it has 12 GB of RAM?
Only if the other minimum rows also qualify. Steam lists 12 GB as the minimum, but you still need the specified 64-bit Windows target, a qualifying CPU, a hardware ray-tracing-capable GPU, DirectX 12, broadband internet, and 115 GB of free space on an SSD.
Is an SSD mandatory for Gears of War: E-Day?
Yes. The current Steam Support listing requires an SSD and 115 GB of available space for both minimum and recommended tiers. Check free space on the actual installation drive; capacity on another drive does not count.
Does meeting minimum guarantee 60 fps?
No. The published requirements do not promise a particular frame rate, resolution, preset, or consistency. They are a compatibility baseline, not a benchmark result.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallWhat if my graphics card is not one of the exact models listed?
Do not rank cards solely by the model number. Identify the exact adapter and verify that it has hardware ray-tracing capability, then compare its position against the official list using current manufacturer specifications. The named cards are examples, not a complete equivalence chart.
How do I check whether my Windows installation is 64-bit and current enough?
Open Settings, choose System, then About. Record the edition, version, OS build, and System type. Minimum requires 64-bit Windows 10 version 22H, build 19045.7291; recommended requires 64-bit Windows 11 version 25H2 or newer.
Does Advanced Shader Delivery lower the game’s system requirements?
No. Microsoft describes ASD as a way to deliver precompiled shaders and reduce shader-compilation time, with an approximately 95% reduction stated in its October 1, 2026 blog. ASD has separate Windows, driver, and hardware conditions and does not replace the Steam requirement table.
What should I upgrade first if my PC fails?
Fix the specific failed row. Free or move data if only storage is short; investigate a compatible internal SSD if the destination is an HDD. A missing ray-tracing-capable GPU, unsupported Windows version, CPU shortfall, or RAM shortfall requires a different solution. Check every remaining row before buying a part.
Where should I verify the requirements before installing?
Use the current Steam Support technical page immediately before purchase or installation. Xbox Wire announced the final specifications and updated its image on September 28, 2026, but the live Steam listing provides the detailed rows and may be revised.
The Bottom Line
Check each requirement separately: 64-bit Windows version and build, CPU, RAM, ray-tracing-capable GPU, DirectX 12, broadband connection, Windows-compatible audio, and 115 GB of free space on an SSD. Passing minimum means your PC matches the published baseline, not that it will deliver a guaranteed frame rate. Resolve the exact failed row, then recheck the live Steam listing before you buy hardware or start the download.
