Which name or number do you need?
Fortnite can show several account labels, and they serve different purposes. Use this table before following the instructions so you collect the right information.

For ordinary friend and party interactions, the visible name is usually enough. For account recovery, support cases, or matching the correct Epic account to a purchase, the account ID is more precise.

Find your Epic Games display name on the website
Use the Display Name field
- Go to epicgames.com and sign in with the Epic account you use for Fortnite.
- Open your account settings.
- Locate the field labeled Display Name. The value in that field is the Epic Games display name associated with the account.
Make sure you sign in with the same Epic account that is linked to your Fortnite profile. Signing in through a different email address or a different platform-linked account can show a different display name and account ID.
Why the website is the best check
The website separates the Epic display name from platform labels. This is useful when the name in Fortnite does not look familiar or when you have multiple console accounts connected. The account settings page also gives you access to Linked Accounts, where you can see the names of connected platform accounts.
Find your Epic display name in Fortnite
PC
Epic’s display-name guidance identifies the Epic display name used when playing Fortnite on PC. Open Fortnite while signed in to the intended Epic account and check the account name shown in the game interface. If you need an unambiguous confirmation, compare it with the Display Name field in Epic account settings.

Nintendo uses the same Epic Games display name for the linked Epic account. If the name shown in Fortnite on Nintendo does not match what you expected, verify that the Nintendo profile is linked to the correct Epic account, then check the website’s Display Name field.
PlayStation and Xbox
On PlayStation or Xbox, the name displayed while you play can be the console account’s gamertag. Epic’s support guidance specifically distinguishes that console name from the Epic display name. A mismatch is therefore not, by itself, evidence that your Fortnite account is wrong.
To identify the Epic account behind a console profile, use the account-ID steps below or sign in to Epic’s website and inspect Account Information. You can also open Linked Accounts in account settings to view the connected console account name.
Find your Epic Games account ID in Fortnite
Exact in-game path
- Launch Fortnite and enter the lobby.
- Open the main menu by selecting the profile icon.
- Choose Settings.
- Open the Account and Privacy tab or section.
- Move the pointer over Epic Games account ID. Epic’s instructions say the ID appears to the right of that entry.
On a controller, use the on-screen focus or cursor to highlight the Epic Games account ID row. The important action is hovering over or focusing that row; the number may not be presented as a permanently visible field.

What the number tells you
The account ID is assigned during account creation and is unique to that Epic account. It is not a substitute for the display name: changing a display name does not create a new account ID, and the ID itself cannot be changed. Epic also says the ID is not displayed to other users, so another player’s lobby name is not a reliable way to infer it.
Other official ways to find the account ID
Epic Games account website
- Sign in at epicgames.com.
- Open Account.
- In Account Information, locate the account ID.
This route is convenient when Fortnite is updating, unavailable, or running on a different device. It also lets you verify the display name and linked accounts in the same session.
Epic Games Launcher
- Open the Epic Games Launcher and sign in.
- Select the Friends icon.
- Select your profile icon.
- Choose Show Account ID.
The launcher displays the ID for the Epic account currently signed in. If you use more than one Epic account, check the profile name before copying the number.
Launcher data files on Windows or Mac
Epic also documents a file-based method that reads account information from launcher data on Windows and Mac. This is a technical fallback rather than the recommended first choice. File locations and formats can vary with launcher updates, so use Epic’s current support instructions for the exact file and field names instead of editing or deleting launcher data. For most players, the in-game, website, or launcher menu is faster and less error-prone.
Display name, account ID and console gamertag: the critical differences

The practical rule is simple: use the display name to recognize an account, and use the account ID to prove which Epic account you mean. If the console lobby name conflicts with the Epic website, treat the console name as a platform label until you verify the linked account.
Check linked accounts when names do not match
- Sign in to the Epic Games website.
- Open account settings.
- Select Linked Accounts.
- Review the connected platform accounts and their names or IDs.
Epic’s linked-account guidance states that PC, Nintendo and mobile use the Epic account display name, while PlayStation and Xbox can show their platform account name. This explains why two players using the same Epic account may see different labels depending on where they are viewing the profile.
Do not unlink an account simply to test a name mismatch. Unlinking can affect access to Fortnite progress and purchases associated with the connection. First record the Epic display name, account ID and linked account details, then contact Epic Support if the connection still appears incorrect.

Which identifier should you give Epic Support?
When you are trying to identify or recover an account, Epic’s support instructions list several possible details:
- Epic Games account ID.
- Invoice ID from a purchase.
- Email address associated with the account.
- Current or most recent Epic display name.
- Name or ID of a linked platform account.
An account ID or invoice ID can help Epic locate the correct account more accurately than a common display name. Provide only the information requested through Epic’s official support process, and do not post your account ID, invoice details or email address publicly.
If you can still open Fortnite
- Use Settings → Account and Privacy to copy or record the Epic account ID.
- Check the Epic website for the display name and linked accounts.
- Keep purchase invoices or invoice IDs available if the support form requests them.
If you cannot sign in
You may not be able to open the in-game account-ID screen without access to Fortnite. Try the Epic website with the email address you believe is associated with the account, or use a linked platform sign-in if Epic offers it on the sign-in page. If you reach the wrong account, stop and verify the account email, display name and linked account before changing any settings.
Troubleshooting common problems
The account-ID row is not showing a number
- Confirm that you are in the lobby, not a loading or matchmaking screen.
- Open the profile menu and return to Settings → Account and Privacy.
- Highlight or hover over Epic Games account ID; the value may appear only when the row has focus.
- Restart Fortnite and check again if the menu failed to load.
- Use the Epic website or Launcher as an alternative.
The name in Fortnite is different from the website
On PlayStation or Xbox, compare the lobby name with the console gamertag first. Then check Linked Accounts on the Epic website. If the console profile is linked to a different Epic account than expected, sign out and verify the intended account before making changes.
You are seeing the wrong Epic account
Sign out of the Epic website or Launcher, then sign back in with the email address or platform account that owns the Fortnite progress you are trying to identify. Multiple Epic accounts can exist under different email addresses, and a platform sign-in can lead to a different account from an email login.
The menu wording has changed
Fortnite and the Epic Games Launcher receive updates, so labels or icon placement can change. Look for the account or privacy section and the entry named Epic Games account ID. If the documented path no longer matches your version, consult Epic Games Support rather than guessing which number is the account ID.
Privacy and safety when sharing an ID
The account ID is not shown to ordinary players, but it still identifies your Epic account. Treat it as account information rather than a public username. Share it only with Epic Support or another trusted recipient through a secure channel. Never combine it with your password, authentication codes or full payment details in a public post.

Your display name is designed to be visible in gameplay, but it should not be used as proof that two profiles are the same account. Names can be similar, can change, and can be replaced by a console gamertag on PlayStation or Xbox. The immutable account ID is the reliable discriminator when Epic needs to distinguish accounts.

A quick identification checklist
Before contacting support or changing any account setting, write down the information that identifies the account consistently. Record the exact value in the Epic website’s Display Name field, the full Epic account ID, and the email address shown for that account. Then open Linked Accounts and note which PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo or other platform profile is connected. This prevents a console gamertag from being mistaken for a second Epic account.

If you are comparing two Fortnite installations, perform the check on both devices and compare the account ID, not just the visible name. The same Epic account keeps the same ID even when it is accessed from a different platform. Conversely, two accounts can have similar display names while having different IDs.
What to copy for a support case
When Epic asks you to identify an account, copy the ID exactly as displayed, including every character. Do not shorten it, replace it with your display name, or rely on a screenshot of a console lobby. If the in-game value is difficult to select, the website’s Account Information page or the Launcher’s Show Account ID command provides another official view of the same identifier. Can I find the account ID without opening Fortnite?
