To check whether a PC can run a game, find the game’s official listing for the PC operating system you use, compare its minimum and recommended requirements with your computer’s CPU, graphics card, RAM, operating system and free storage, then treat any compatibility-checker result as guidance rather than a performance guarantee. On a console, first confirm that the game is available for your exact system; PC requirements do not determine console compatibility.
Start with the game’s listing for the right platform
Look up the exact game on its official store page or publisher support page, choosing the edition and platform you intend to use. On Steam, scroll to System Requirements and check both the listed operating systems and the hardware requirements. Steam notes that a game may not be available for every operating system: Steam Support: Game is not available on your current platform.
Keep PC and console editions separate. A PC listing’s requirements apply to that PC version, not to a console edition. For a console, check the game’s console store page or publisher support information for the exact system or console family. Owning a console edition does not by itself establish that a separate PC version will run on your computer.
Compare your PC with the requirements
Record the game’s minimum and recommended specifications, then compare each item with your PC. Requirements are specific to the game; Xbox says they vary by PC game and that performance scales with higher-end systems: Xbox on PC.

Use your PC’s system information to identify its processor, graphics card, installed RAM and Windows version, and check free disk space in your storage settings or file manager. Match model names and values carefully; a computer that meets the memory requirement can still fall short on its graphics card or operating system.
Understand what minimum and recommended mean
Minimum and recommended specifications are separate comparison points, not promises about how the game will feel to play. Meeting or nearly meeting the listed requirements does not guarantee smooth performance or even a successful launch. Steam explicitly warns that machines at or near a game’s requirements may experience performance or launch issues: Steam Support: Games do not run after ‘Preparing to Launch’.

A basic pass/fail comparison cannot establish a specific frame rate or graphics setting. If your PC only reaches the minimum or is close to it, regard the result as uncertain rather than assuming the game will run smoothly.
Use a compatibility checker as a screening aid
A third-party tool such as Can I Run It’s User Guide can organize a comparison of a PC’s CPU, GPU, RAM and storage against a game’s requirements and flag potential bottlenecks. Use it as an additional screening step, not as a substitute for the current official listing or a guarantee of launch, frame rate or settings.

Check console compatibility separately
For console play, verify the game’s listing supports the precise console you own. Do not apply PC system requirements to a console edition, or infer that a console version means the PC version will work. If you are downloading an Xbox Play Anywhere title to a PC, Microsoft advises checking the publisher’s minimum requirements for that PC game: Microsoft Support: Usage rules for Digital Goods.

Identify the specific component or requirement that does not match before deciding what to do next. Consult the game publisher’s support information and your PC manufacturer before considering an upgrade; without the game and computer specifications, there is no reliable way to name an appropriate replacement part.
