Which tier should you choose?
If you play only on PC
PC Game Pass is the plan presented for PC-only play. It advertises 300+ PC games, day-one PC releases, and EA Play for $13.99 per month on the captured US page. Check the PC Game Pass purchase page and the game listing to confirm your preferred titles are supported and included.

If you play on console and want the lowest listed price
Essential costs $9.99 per month on the captured US page and includes online console multiplayer. It is the entry tier, with a publisher-stated catalog of 50+ games and no day-one new releases. Xbox says free-to-play multiplayer is available to every Xbox player, so a subscription is not required just to play free-to-play games online; see its official plan FAQ.
If you want a larger cross-device library, but can wait for some new releases
Premium is the middle option at a displayed $14.99 per month after a limited introductory offer. Xbox lists 200+ games across console, PC, and supported devices, plus select new Xbox-published games joining within 12 months. It does not offer the day-one release timing advertised for Ultimate. The 12-month wording applies to select Xbox-published games, not every publisher’s releases.

If day-one releases and bundled memberships matter most
Ultimate is the broadest listed option at $22.99 per month. Xbox advertises 500+ games across console, PC, and supported devices, new games on day one, and EA Play, Fortnite Crew, and Ubisoft+ Classics. It also lists online console multiplayer. Choose it when those timing and membership benefits are worth the additional monthly cost to you.
What to weigh when you play on both PC and console
Essential, Premium, and Ultimate are the cross-device options in Xbox’s overview; PC Game Pass is presented as PC-only. For a two-device household or someone who plays on both systems, make the decision around the benefits you will actually use:

Check a game before subscribing
A catalog count is not a guarantee about a specific game. Titles can leave the catalog, and subscription access ends when your subscription ends or when a game is removed. Before choosing a tier, search the current Xbox Game Pass library for the title, then confirm that its listing supports your device and plan. Xbox’s availability notice says titles and features vary by time, region, plan, and platform.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Online multiplayer and Game Pass
Xbox lists online console multiplayer with Essential, Premium, and Ultimate. Its FAQ also states that free-to-play multiplayer is open to every Xbox player, so Essential is not necessary solely to access online play in a free-to-play game. For a paid multiplayer title, check the current Xbox plan details and that game’s requirements.
