Check the exact mode or feature—not just the game mode name
NBA 2K25 has offline modes as well as online variants and server-connected features. For example, Play Now is listed among modes that remain playable, while Play Now Online is an online feature. The W is named as an offline mode, while The W Online is a separate online feature. MyNBA may remain playable offline, but that does not mean its Online Leagues or other server-dependent functions will work after retirement.

2K’s launch announcement says an internet connection and online account are required to access online features and redeem or use bonus content. Its examples include MyCAREER, MyTEAM, MyNBA, The W Online and Play Now Online. Which NBA 2K25 modes does 2K say work offline?
2K’s server-sunset notice, updated October 2, 2026, names Play Now, MyNBA, The W and MyWNBA as playable after the sunset. The 2K Online Services Status page also lists 2KU/Learn 2K and uses the labels MyNBA/MyLeague/MyGM and MyWNBA and the W. The source pages differ slightly in their labels, so the table preserves those distinctions rather than treating every mode or subfeature as interchangeable.

How to check a specific feature on your copy
- Write down the full feature name. Distinguish an offline mode such as Play Now from an online variant such as Play Now Online, and The W from The W Online.
- Compare it with 2K’s offline and sunset lists. A mode named as playable offline may still contain features that require 2K servers. Treat multiplayer, Online Leagues, community sharing and other explicitly server-dependent functions as unavailable after retirement.
- Confirm that you can install or redownload the game. 2K says existing owners can still redownload it and play offline modes, but this is not a platform-specific guarantee for every account, disc, download, update or first-launch scenario.
- Test the intended mode without an internet connection. This is a practical check, not a platform procedure documented by 2K. If it does not work, reconnect and check the platform’s license, installation and update settings or contact 2K support.
2K’s official sources do not give a universal offline activation or first-launch setup procedure for PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch or PC. Do not assume the steps or results are identical across platforms.

Know the service-retirement dates
- October 30, 2026: 2K says NBA 2K25 will no longer be available for purchase starting this date.
- December 31, 2026: 2K’s scheduled date for the game’s discontinuation and online-service retirement.
- January 1, 2027: The sunset notice says online modes and server-dependent features will be unavailable from this date; MyCAREER and MyTEAM will no longer be available.
