NBA 2K25’s online services are scheduled to end on December 31, 2026. Starting January 1, 2027, MyCAREER, MyTEAM, multiplayer, and other features that require 2K servers will be unavailable. Existing owners can still redownload the game and play supported offline modes, including Play Now, MyNBA, The W, and MyWNBA, according to 2K’s retirement notice.
What changes on January 1, 2027?
2K says NBA 2K25 will be discontinued as of December 31, 2026. Online modes and multiplayer will no longer be accessible from January 1, 2027, and players will no longer be able to earn Virtual Currency (VC). 2K’s game-specific notice was updated October 2, 2026.

MyCAREER and MyTEAM
MyCAREER and MyTEAM will no longer be available after the shutdown. The notice does not describe an offline version or a way to transfer a MyCAREER player or MyTEAM collection into another mode, so do not assume that builds, cards, or related progress will remain usable.
Multiplayer and other server-dependent features
Multiplayer, Online Leagues, community sharing, and any other feature requiring access to 2K servers will stop working. The shutdown is not limited to matchmaking: connected tools and services are affected too.

Which NBA 2K25 modes remain playable offline?
2K says existing owners can redownload the game and play offline modes. Its newer, game-specific notice names these modes:
- Play Now
- MyNBA
- The W
- MyWNBA
2K’s general server-retirement status page also lists 2KU/Learn 2K and MyNBA/MyLeague/MyGM as NBA 2K25 offline modes. Because the game-specific notice is newer and warns that server-dependent features will be unavailable, do not assume every connected subfeature within a named mode will work offline.

Can you still buy NBA 2K25 before the shutdown?
2K says NBA 2K25 will no longer be available for purchase as of October 30, 2026. That cutoff is separate from the end of online services on December 31: buying the game before it is delisted does not extend access to MyCAREER, MyTEAM, multiplayer, or other online features beyond the announced shutdown.
Can owners redownload NBA 2K25 afterward?
2K says that people who already own the game will still be able to redownload it and play offline modes. Its notice does not specify platform-store, account, licensing, or regional conditions, so this should not be read as a platform-by-platform or perpetual-access guarantee.

Are the shutdown dates guaranteed?
The announced dates are current as of 2K’s October 2, 2026 update, but 2K’s general retirement-status page says scheduled retirement dates may be extended or brought forward. The notice also does not establish what happens to local save files, or whether individual subfeatures have exceptions.
