There is no published universal winner between Edge and Chrome for Xbox Cloud Gaming on PC. Xbox lists Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, and Safari as supported browser examples, but its guidance does not compare their PC performance. Choose a current browser supported by your operating system; try Edge if you want to use its Clarity Boost image-quality feature, when available on your device and browser version.

Xbox names Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, and Safari as examples of browsers for cloud gaming on xbox.com. That list establishes compatibility examples, not a performance ranking. Safari’s inclusion does not mean it is available for Windows: use a browser supported by your operating system.

Should you choose Edge for Clarity Boost?
Clarity Boost is an Edge feature intended to enhance graphics quality while playing Xbox Cloud Gaming on PC. It may be a reason to try Edge if image appearance is your priority, but it is not evidence that Edge improves connection speed, input latency, or overall reliability. Microsoft says feature availability and functionality can vary by device, market, and browser version.

Xbox says best performance is achieved at 20 Mbps on PCs, consoles, and tablets, and recommends 5 GHz Wi-Fi. Xbox Wire also recommends at least 20 Mbps and using wired Ethernet where possible. These are service recommendations, not guarantees of a particular resolution, latency, or uninterrupted session. Actual results can also depend on your location, device, and connection conditions. - If you use Wi-Fi, try a 5 GHz connection if available.

Make sure account, game, and controller setup are eligible
Browser compatibility alone does not ensure that a game will launch. Xbox’s supported regions, eligible subscriptions, game catalog, and access rules apply; select free-to-play games are available with a free Microsoft account in supported regions. Catalog and plan availability can vary. Visit Xbox Cloud Gaming, sign in, and check whether the title is available to your account.
Xbox’s setup guidance includes a compatible controller connected by Bluetooth or USB. Selected games also support Xbox touch controls, so a controller is not required for every title.

Because Xbox does not publish a controlled Edge-versus-Chrome PC benchmark in its guidance, your own setup is the practical way to decide whether one browser works better for you.

- Open xbox.com/play in a current browser supported by your operating system and sign in to the account you intend to use.
- Choose a game your account can access and connect a compatible controller, unless the game supports touch controls.
- Play under the same device and network conditions in each supported browser available to you. Keep the game and connection method the same.
- Compare whether the session feels responsive and stable and whether the image looks good to you. If you test Clarity Boost, treat it as an image-quality comparison, not a browser-speed test.
- If results are poor in every browser, investigate the connection, device, location, and access eligibility before concluding that the browser is the cause.
