Choose an AION 2 class by the job you want to do and the combat you enjoy—not by a supposedly universal “best class.” Start with whether you want to tank, deal damage, heal, or support; then weigh melee, ranged, magic, or summon-oriented play and whether solo or group content matters more. NCSOFT’s class descriptions give useful starting points, but class names and balance can vary by update and regional client.
How to choose an AION 2 class
- Pick your preferred responsibility. Decide whether you want to protect allies, focus on damage, restore teammates, or provide support.
- Choose a combat feel. Consider close-range precision, broad melee attacks, ranged weapons, burst magic, or summon-oriented play.
- Think about where you will play. Solo and group content can reward different strengths; PvE and PvP balance should not be assumed to match.
- Check the class names and current skills in your regional client. Official NCSOFT material from different dates uses different names for some classes, and skills can change with updates.
This gives you a practical shortlist without treating a patch-sensitive ranking as a permanent answer.
What each class is known for
NCSOFT’s May 30, 2025 announcement introduced eight classes with broad identities. These are high-level descriptions, not a complete skill guide or a promise that every detail remains unchanged.
| Class name in NCSOFT’s 2025 announcement | Officially described identity | Who might be drawn to it |
|---|---|---|
| Gladiator | Powerful, wide-area skill attacks | Players who like broad melee attacks and affecting multiple enemies |
| Templar | Core tanking role | Players who want to hold threats and protect allies |
| Assassin | Precision-based melee specialist | Players who prefer close-range, targeted attacks |
| Marksman | Long-range scout class | Players who want to fight from range |
| Sorcerer | High burst magic damage | Players drawn to magic attacks and damage delivered in bursts |
| Spiritmaster | Optimized for solo play | Players prioritizing the officially stated solo-oriented identity |
| Cleric | Improved damage capabilities | Players interested in a class whose official description highlights damage; a community guide additionally identifies Cleric as a primary healer |
| Chanter | Versatile support with multiplayer utility | Players who want to contribute through flexible group support |
The role interpretations beyond NCSOFT’s short descriptions—for example, the community guide’s healer label for Cleric—are guide material, not a substitute for the current in-game skill descriptions.

Which class fits your playstyle?
If you want to tank and protect the group
Start with Templar: it is the clearest official tank signal in the 2025 roster. Tanking suits players who want a visible group responsibility rather than choosing only for damage output.
If you want flexible group support
Consider Chanter. NCSOFT describes it as versatile support with multiplayer utility, making it a natural candidate if helping the party is more appealing than concentrating only on personal damage.
Rank #2
If you expect to play solo often
Consider Spiritmaster, which NCSOFT explicitly described as optimized for solo play. That label is a useful fit clue, not proof that it is the strongest solo choice in every region, update, or activity.
If you want to focus on damage
Choose by the kind of damage loop you want rather than assuming all damage classes play alike. Gladiator is described around powerful area attacks, Assassin around precise melee, Marksman around long range, and Sorcerer around burst magic. NCSOFT’s 2026 update uses Ranger and Elementalist where the 2025 announcement used Marksman and Spiritmaster, so confirm the names shown in your client before relying on older material.

Solo, group PvE, and PvP are different choices
A class label alone cannot settle which character will suit every activity. NCSOFT’s May 2025 announcement described dungeons ranging from solo instances to group dungeons for four or eight players. A community guide describes a five-player group structure. Those descriptions do not establish one universal party size or composition; check the relevant regional client and activity before planning a group around a fixed number.
Do not assume a class that performs well in PvE will have the same standing in PvP. NCSOFT’s March 25, 2026 update explicitly separated PvP and PvE damage calculations, making game mode an important part of any class comparison.

Class names and balance depend on the client and update
NCSOFT’s May 30, 2025 announcement lists Marksman and Spiritmaster, while its March 25, 2026 update refers to Ranger and Elementalist. Treat these as date- or client-dependent terminology rather than silently combining them as if the names were identical in every version. Check the class selection screen, current tooltips, and notices for your region.
The March 2026 update also reported a comprehensive class rebalance, new Stigma skills for all eight named classes, a maximum of five Stigma slots, and separate PvP/PvE damage calculations. The announced skills were Fracturing Rush (Gladiator), Battlefield Banner (Templar), Shadowstep (Assassin), Supporting Fire (Ranger), Hibernation (Sorcerer), Command: Proxy (Elementalist), Reincarnating Touch (Cleric), and Barrier Spell (Chanter). These update details are evidence that class kits can shift; they are not a permanent tier list.
Is there a best AION 2 class for beginners?
There is no established universal beginner winner in the cited official material. The official descriptions do not provide an objective difficulty ranking, so it is more useful to think about the responsibility and mechanics you want: tanking and healing put visible responsibility on the player, while damage roles ask you to manage different ranges, timing, positioning, or other class-specific mechanics. Community rankings are assessments that may move as patches change.
