Start with the exact PC and console models you own, then verify that the exact headset variant supports each device over the connection you plan to use. Brand names alone do not guarantee compatibility: wireless support, microphone input, and spatial-audio features can change by platform and connection mode. If your devices have suitable 3.5 mm jacks, a wired connection can be a useful fallback.
Check compatibility for each device and connection
Make a list of the devices you want to use: for example, a Windows PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Then check the manufacturer’s compatibility information for the exact headset model and variant—not just the product family. Corsair publishes a model-by-platform compatibility matrix, and SteelSeries documents platform-specific connection details for Arctis headsets. Corsair’s compatibility guide and SteelSeries’ Arctis guide are examples of the level of detail to look for.
- Confirm support for every platform you plan to use, including your PC operating system where specified.
- Identify the supported connection for each device: 3.5 mm, USB, or a wireless receiver or protocol.
- Check whether microphone, chat, controls, and advertised audio features work over that connection.
- Verify the exact variant in the retailer listing against the manufacturer’s model documentation; variants with similar names may support different platforms.
Do not assume that a wireless headset works across console families just because it works wirelessly on one console. Manufacturer compatibility information often distinguishes platforms and connection methods; confirm the combination you intend to use before buying.
Choose a connection that fits your setup
3.5 mm: a simple wired route when ports are available
Xbox says wired headphones with a 3.5 mm plug connect to Xbox Series X|S through the controller’s audio jack. The Xbox Stereo Headset is one example of a headset designed to connect this way. A 3.5 mm plug can also be useful across devices, but check that each device has a compatible jack and that the features you want work over the analog connection.

- TRIFORCE TITANIUM 50 MM DRIVERS — Our cutting-edge proprietary design divides the driver into 3 parts for the individual tuning of highs, mids, and lows—producing brighter, clearer audio with richer highs and more powerful lows
- HYPERCLEAR CARDIOID MIC — An improved pickup pattern ensures more voice and less noise as it tapers off towards the mic’s back and sides, with the sweet spot easily placed at the mouth because of the mic’s bendable design
- ADVANCED PASSIVE NOISE CANCELLATION — Sturdy closed earcups fully cover the ears to prevent noise from leaking into the headset, with its cushions providing a closer seal for more sound isolation
- LIGHTWEIGHT DESIGN WITH MEMORY FOAM EAR CUSHIONS — At just 240 g, the headset features thicker headband padding and memory foam ear cushions with leatherette to keep gaming in peak form during grueling tournaments and training sessions
- WORKS WITH WINDOWS SONIC — Make the most of the headset’s powerful drivers by pairing it with lifelike surround sound that places audio with pinpoint accuracy, heightening in-game awareness and immersion
For a multi-platform setup, a wired fallback may be practical if the relevant controller and computer ports are available. It does not establish that every headset feature will carry over, so verify microphone and audio-feature support for the specific model and connection.
USB or wireless: verify the exact platform support
USB and wireless connections can be convenient, but their availability and features are product- and platform-specific. Read the manufacturer’s compatibility details for each console and PC rather than treating “wireless” as universal support. Sony’s PS5 FAQ identifies PULSE 3D as the official PS5 headset and advises checking a headset manufacturer’s compatibility information for use with other devices. Sony’s PS5 FAQ is useful context, not a guarantee that the headset or all its features will work on every other platform.

Check microphone and chat support on PC
Confirm that the microphone works through the connection you plan to use, not just that the headset produces sound. Port layouts vary: a computer with separate headphone and microphone sockets may need a 3.5 mm four-pole-to-separate-microphone-and-stereo splitter for a headset whose plug combines audio and microphone. This is not a universal requirement; Logitech documents it as a conditional setup detail for the G933. See Logitech’s G933 connection instructions and check the instructions for your own headset and computer.
Check what spatial audio works in each mode
Spatial-audio support can depend on both platform and connection. A branded feature name is not proof that the feature is available everywhere. Sony’s INZONE FAQ says that, for the referenced models, connecting by Bluetooth to a PC or PS5 disables the Spatial Sound setting; it also cautions that some functions may work over 3.5 mm while Xbox support is not guaranteed. Check the precise model and mode in Sony’s INZONE FAQ before relying on a feature.

Platform audio options also differ. Xbox says its Stereo Headset supports Windows Sonic spatial sound on Xbox. That product-specific statement should not be generalized to every headset or to every PC and console connection. Xbox’s headset information describes its platform context.
