Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsRoberts Space Industries (RSI) currently publishes shared minimum requirements for its games, including Squadron 42: Windows 10 64-bit or Windows 11, a supported quad-core CPU, a DirectX 11.1 graphics card with 4 GB of graphics memory, at least 16 GB of system RAM, and a 150+ GB SSD. These are compatibility minimums—not a recommended gaming build or a promise of smooth performance. RSI said on February 4, 2026, that Squadron 42 was still in development and unavailable to download, so final-release requirements and performance remain unconfirmed.
What PC specs does RSI currently list?
RSI’s Game and Launcher Requirements, updated December 17, 2025, gives shared CIG game requirements that include Squadron 42. The page describes them as minimums for effectively installing, loading, and playing the games; it does not identify a Squadron 42-specific build.

| Part | Published minimum or guidance |
|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 64-bit or Windows 11. RSI says Linux and macOS are not supported. |
| CPU | Quad-core processor with AVX, AVX2, and FMA3. RSI gives Intel i7 Haswell or later and AMD Excavator or later as family examples. |
| Graphics card | DirectX 11.1 graphics card with 4 GB of graphics memory. |
| System memory | At least 16 GB RAM. |
| Storage | 150+ GB SSD for the game requirement. RSI separately recommends an NTFS-formatted drive with at least 100 GB for the RSI Launcher and Star Citizen installation, plus at least 10 GB of additional SSD space for the pagefile. |
The storage wording covers more than one purpose: the listed game minimum is 150+ GB SSD, while the launcher, Star Citizen, and pagefile guidance is stated separately. Leave adequate free space rather than treating a drive’s advertised capacity as entirely available for the game.

The published list does not name a specific GPU model, target resolution, graphics preset, or frame rate. Meeting the listed thresholds therefore does not establish how smoothly Squadron 42 will run on a particular computer. Nor does RSI’s shared guidance establish the final game’s requirements: at its February 4, 2026 update, the company said Squadron 42 was in development and not available for download.
#1 Best Overall
- Ideal for high speed, low power storage
- Gen 4x4 NVMe PCle performance
- Up to 6,000MB/s read, 4,000MB/s write
- Includes Acronis cloning software
- 5-year limited warranty
Do not buy an expensive processor or graphics card on the assumption that it is an officially recommended Squadron 42 configuration. No model rankings or quantified performance targets are established by RSI’s published minimum list. Recheck RSI’s requirements and availability pages before purchasing, since both can change.
How to check a PC you already own
RSI suggests using Windows System Information or DXDiag to inspect exact system specifications. Compare the machine with each requirement rather than relying on a broad label such as “gaming PC.”

- This product has been replaced by our latest generation. Please search for the SANDISK Optimus GX 7100 NVMe SSD
- HIGH-OCTANE GAMING. Experience speeds up to 7,250MB/s read and 6,900MB/s write (1-2TB models), with up to 35% faster performance than previous generation.
- PURPOSE-BUILT. Designed for serious on-the-go gamers, with a PCIe Gen4 interface and SANDISK’s next generation TLC 3D NAND.
- MORE TIME TO CLEAR THAT CHECKPOINT. Built with laptops and handheld gaming devices in mind, with up to 100% more power efficiency over the previous generation.
- DO MORE WITH DASHBOARD. Ensure your drive is optimized for prime performance with the downloadable WD_BLACK Dashboard (Windows only).
- Check Windows: Confirm the PC runs Windows 10 64-bit or Windows 11.
- Check the processor: Verify it has at least four cores and supports AVX, AVX2, and FMA3. The Intel and AMD family examples are not a substitute for checking the instruction sets.
- Check graphics: Confirm the graphics card supports DirectX 11.1 and has at least 4 GB of graphics memory.
- Check system RAM: Confirm the computer has at least 16 GB.
- Check storage: Confirm there is an SSD with sufficient capacity and free space for installation, while accounting for RSI’s separate storage guidance.
Which upgrade should you prioritize?
First identify the requirement, if any, that the current PC does not meet. Fix that shortfall before spending on a stronger part that does not address it. For example, a GPU upgrade does not solve an unsupported operating system, an older CPU that lacks a required instruction set, insufficient system RAM, or the absence of adequate SSD space.

- CPU shortfall: Check core count and AVX, AVX2, and FMA3 support, not just the processor’s age or model family.
- Graphics shortfall: Check both DirectX 11.1 support and graphics memory. RSI does not name a minimum GPU model.
- Memory shortfall: Bring system RAM to at least 16 GB.
- Storage shortfall: Make room on a compatible SSD, allowing for the stated game requirement and the separate launcher, Star Citizen, and pagefile guidance.
Before replacing hardware, check that the new part is compatible with the motherboard, available slot and interface, power supply, and case. These are general PC-upgrade checks; RSI does not specify those component details.

How to compare candidate PCs
Use the same checklist for each system you are considering. A listing that advertises a powerful GPU is not enough if it omits the processor’s instruction-set support or the SSD capacity.
- Supported Windows version
- CPU core count and AVX, AVX2, and FMA3 support
- GPU DirectX support and graphics memory
- Installed system RAM
- SSD capacity and available space
- Compatibility of any planned upgrades with the motherboard, power supply, and case
RSI’s Public Telemetry, linked from its Development Hub, shows performance on community machines and can help provide context for similar hardware. It is not a guarantee for your individual PC, and community results do not establish a Squadron 42 frame-rate target.
