How to choose between Polygon’s Wishlister, Steam Wishlist, and IsThereAnyDeal

Polygon’s Wishlister, Steam Wishlist, and IsThereAnyDeal solve different problems. Learn which tool fits discovery, Steam notifications, price alerts, privacy, and cross-store buying—and how to combine them.

Choose Polygon’s Wishlister for curated discovery, Steam Wishlist for a simple Steam-native list and Valve’s release or qualifying-sale notifications, and IsThereAnyDeal for cross-store price comparison and configurable deal alerts. They are complementary rather than interchangeable. A practical setup is to discover upcoming PC games through Wishlister, save the ones you want in Steam, and import that list into IsThereAnyDeal when you also want to watch prices beyond Steam.

What each service actually does

Polygon’s Wishlister is an editorial discovery newsletter

A Polygon-bylined report describes Wishlister as a weekly newsletter covering upcoming PC games. Each issue rounds up six games and links readers to the games’ Steam pages. That makes it a discovery filter: someone else has selected a small group of unreleased or forthcoming games so you do not have to search Steam’s entire upcoming catalog.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Wishlister is not described as a price tracker, a cross-store comparison engine, or a replacement for your personal wishlist. Its job ends when it points you toward games that may interest you. The available description comes from a Polygon byline carried by a syndication page dated October 10, 2026, rather than a directly accessible Polygon page, so treat the six-game weekly format as Polygon’s reported description, not as a guarantee about every future issue.

Steam Wishlist is the Steam-native organizer

Steam Wishlist stores games you have chosen inside the Steam ecosystem. From a game’s Steam store page, you can add it to your Wishlist, then open the list in the Steam client or in a browser to reorder entries or remove them. If most of your purchases happen on Steam, this is the least complicated way to keep upcoming, unreleased, and “buy later” games together.

Your Wishlist’s visibility follows your Steam Community Profile privacy setting. Steam provides public, friends-only, and private choices. That setting matters if you use the list to share recommendations, or if you do not want other people to see the games you are watching.

Steam can also notify wishlisters when a game releases or meets Valve’s conditions for a qualifying discount. Those notifications are governed by eligibility rules, discount thresholds and duration requirements, verified email and notification preferences, and a cooldown that is generally one to two weeks. Valve says the cooldown can be extended during periods of unusually high notification volume. Consequently, a game on your Wishlist is not a promise that you will receive every possible alert.

IsThereAnyDeal is a multi-store price and alert service

IsThereAnyDeal (ITAD) is designed for shoppers who want more control over where and when they buy. Its Welcome page describes a configurable Waitlist, Steam Wishlist importing, price history, and a Collection for games you already own. Its Steam community description says it compares prices across more than 30 stores and several regions, and also covers bundles, vouchers, and giveaways.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The service is therefore broader than a Steam-only list, but “more than 30 stores” does not mean every store is available in every country, or that every listing uses the DRM you want. A particular game’s offers can differ by region, currency, activation restrictions, edition, and DRM. Check the actual store listing before buying rather than treating the lowest displayed number as universally valid.

Side-by-side comparison

Question Polygon’s Wishlister Steam Wishlist IsThereAnyDeal
Primary purpose Curated discovery of upcoming PC games Save and organize games in Steam Compare prices and monitor deals across stores
How content is selected Editorial roundup of six games per reported weekly issue You add the games yourself You add titles yourself or import a Steam Wishlist
Store coverage Links to Steam pages Steam only More than 30 stores and several regions, according to ITAD’s service description; availability varies by game and country
Price history Not stated Not stated Available as a documented feature
Alert controls Newsletter delivery Valve release and qualifying-discount notifications, subject to eligibility, preferences and cooldowns Configurable Waitlist notification rules
Owned-game tracking Not stated Not stated as a Collection feature Collection for games you own
Account and privacy model Newsletter sign-up details are not established here Wishlist visibility follows Steam Community Profile privacy settings Account can use email/password or Steam sign-in; policy describes country, linked profile details, IP/session information and cookies

The table shows why no single service wins every use case. Wishlister answers “What might I want to play next?” Steam answers “Which games am I watching on Steam?” ITAD answers “Where and at what price should I buy this game?”

Choose by the job you need done

Choose Wishlister when discovery is the bottleneck

Use Wishlister if Steam’s volume makes it difficult to find promising upcoming games, or if you prefer a human-sized list of suggestions. Six games in a weekly issue is a manageable reading and evaluation queue. Open the Steam page for any title that interests you, inspect its release information and store details there, and add only the games you genuinely want to follow.

Do not subscribe expecting a discount signal. The documented description does not present Wishlister as a sales-alert product, and it does not establish price history or monitoring across other stores.

Choose Steam Wishlist when you buy primarily on Steam

Steam is the natural choice when convenience matters more than cross-store optimization. It keeps your saved titles beside your Steam library and uses Valve’s own release and qualifying-discount notification system. It is also the only one of the three that is inherently the store where the transaction will occur.

Steam’s alerts are useful but bounded. Valve’s conditions include the size and duration of a discount, a verified email address and your notification settings. A cooldown generally limits repeated messages for roughly one to two weeks, with possible extensions during high-volume periods. If you need a notification at a particular price, Steam’s rules do not give you that level of control.

Choose IsThereAnyDeal when price and purchase options matter

ITAD is the better fit if you are willing to buy outside Steam, want a target-price or sale rule, or routinely compare official stores, bundles, vouchers, and giveaways. Its price-history view helps distinguish an unusually low price from a routine promotion, while the Collection helps you record games you already own and avoid buying duplicates.

That flexibility comes with more decisions. You must select the stores and regions that work for you, understand a listing’s DRM and activation limits, and check whether an offer is for the edition you want. A deal that appears in a different currency or territory may not be redeemable on your account.

How to find upcoming Steam games and follow them

Workflow 1: use Wishlister as a discovery queue

  1. Read the weekly Wishlister issue and note the games that match your platform and interests.
  2. Open the linked Steam page for each candidate.
  3. Check the page’s release information, system requirements, edition details, and current store status.
  4. Add only worthwhile candidates to your Steam Wishlist; leave the rest out so your alerts remain meaningful.

This workflow separates discovery from commitment. The newsletter supplies the suggestions, while Steam remains the authoritative place to follow a title that you may actually buy.

Workflow 2: maintain a useful Steam Wishlist

  1. On a game’s Steam store page, select the option to add it to your Wishlist.
  2. Open Wishlist in the Steam client or browser to review your saved titles.
  3. Reorder entries so games you are most likely to buy are easy to review first.
  4. Remove abandoned projects, games you already purchased elsewhere, and titles that no longer fit your preferences.
  5. Review your Steam account’s email verification and notification preferences so eligible release or discount messages can reach you.
  6. Set the Wishlist visibility you want through your Steam Community Profile privacy settings: public, friends-only, or private.

Curating the list is more valuable than maximizing its size. Valve explicitly says wishlist counts cannot be converted into an accurate sales forecast, so a large total is not a reliable measure of a game’s eventual commercial performance or of your own likelihood of buying it.

Workflow 3: add configurable deal monitoring with ITAD

  1. Create an ITAD account with an email and password, or use Steam sign-in if you want to import your Steam Wishlist.
  2. Import the Steam Wishlist, then review the imported titles rather than assuming every entry still belongs on your buying list.
  3. Open the Waitlist controls for the games you care about and choose notification rules that match your budget and urgency.
  4. Use price history to understand whether a current promotion is exceptional or typical.
  5. Check the listed store, region, currency, edition, and DRM before following a purchase link.
  6. Record games you already own in Collection so future comparisons do not lead to duplicate purchases.

ITAD’s configurable rules are the key distinction from Steam’s fixed eligibility and cooldown system. They let you define what “notify me” means, but the usefulness of a rule still depends on the stores and regions ITAD covers for that particular title.

How notifications differ in practice

Steam’s alerts are event-based and conditional

Steamworks documentation describes notifications for a release and for discounts that meet Valve’s qualifying conditions. The conditions are not simply “the price changed.” Discount percentage, duration, account email verification, user preferences, and the notification cooldown all affect delivery. During heavy promotional periods, Valve may lengthen the cooldown.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For that reason, use Steam alerts as a convenient heads-up, not as a guaranteed real-time price alarm. If you miss an alert, the game can still be on sale; open the store page or use a separate price-monitoring service when timing is critical.

ITAD’s alerts are rule-based

ITAD’s Waitlist is intended for user-defined notification rules. You can monitor a title across covered stores and use its price information to decide what threshold or condition matters to you. The exact offer still depends on the store, region, currency, edition, and DRM attached to the listing.

This makes ITAD preferable for a buyer who says, “Tell me when this game reaches a price I will pay,” while Steam is preferable for someone who says, “Keep me informed about this Steam release and qualifying sale.”

Region, DRM, and store coverage can change the answer

Cross-store comparison is valuable only when the offers are usable for you. Before acting on an ITAD result, verify:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Country and currency: the displayed price and availability can vary by territory.
  • Activation region: a key may be restricted to a particular country or group of countries.
  • DRM: a store may provide Steam activation, another launcher, or a different form of ownership.
  • Edition and contents: standard, deluxe, complete, and bundle listings may not include the same items.
  • Offer type: a bundle, voucher, or giveaway has different conditions from a normal standalone purchase.

ITAD describes broad coverage, not universal coverage. “More than 30 stores” is a service-level description; it is not proof that every game appears in every store or that every region has the same offers.

ITAD data and Steam import

ITAD’s privacy policy says an account can use email/password authentication or Steam sign-in. It describes collecting your country, linked profile details, IP and session information, and cookies. The policy says account data are retained until you delete the account and that the service uses third-party processors.

The policy also describes affiliate relationships with some covered stores and tracking on some store links, while noting that not every listed store has an affiliate program. You can go directly to a store if you prefer not to use an ITAD purchase link. Linking Steam for an import is convenient, but review the policy and the profile information you are comfortable sharing before connecting accounts.

Using all three without creating a mess

You do not have to choose one service exclusively. A clean division of labor avoids duplicate lists:

Stage Best fit What to do
Discover Polygon’s Wishlister Scan the weekly six-game roundup and open promising Steam pages.
Decide what to follow Steam Wishlist Save serious candidates, reorder them, and remove titles you have ruled out.
Watch for the right deal IsThereAnyDeal Import the list, set Waitlist rules, inspect price history, and compare eligible stores.
Record ownership IsThereAnyDeal Collection Mark games you own so later searches do not produce unnecessary duplicates.

This layered approach is an inference from the documented feature sets, not the result of an apples-to-apples performance test. It works when each service has one clear responsibility: editorial suggestions, Steam organization, or purchase optimization.

Common mistakes and how to correct them

Treating Wishlister as a sale tracker

Symptom: you expect the newsletter to tell you when a game becomes cheaper.

Fix: use Wishlister only to discover candidates, then place the title on Steam Wishlist or ITAD’s Waitlist for ongoing monitoring.

Assuming a Steam Wishlist guarantees an alert

Symptom: a wishlisted game goes on sale and no email arrives.

HUANUO FlowLift™ Dual Monitor Stand, Fully Adjustable Gaming Monitor Desk Mount for 13–32″ Computer Screens, Full Motion VESA 75x75/100x100 with C-Clamp & Grommet Base, Each Arm Holds 4.4 to 19.8 lbs
  • Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
  • Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
  • Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.
  • Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
  • Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.

Fix: check email verification and notification preferences, then remember that Valve’s discount eligibility and cooldown rules apply. Use ITAD when you need a configurable rule rather than a Valve-triggered message.

Reading a price comparison without checking the offer

Symptom: the cheapest listed price cannot be activated or does not include the edition you expected.

Fix: confirm region, currency, DRM, edition, and offer type on the store page before paying.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Keeping every discovered game forever

Symptom: your Steam Wishlist becomes too large to guide a purchase, and alerts lose relevance.

Fix: periodically remove games you no longer want, and use ITAD Collection for titles you already own. A smaller, maintained list gives every alert more meaning.

Assuming wishlist totals predict sales

Symptom: you treat a game’s wishlist count as a precise forecast of launch or discount performance.

Fix: do not make that calculation. Valve says there is no formula that accurately predicts sales from wishlist counts.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A decision checklist

  • Do you mainly need ideas for upcoming PC games? Start with Polygon’s Wishlister.
  • Do you want one straightforward list inside Steam? Use Steam Wishlist.
  • Do you want release and qualifying-sale messages tied to Steam’s rules? Use Steam Wishlist, with email and preference settings checked.
  • Do you compare several stores, regions, bundles, vouchers, or giveaways? Add IsThereAnyDeal.
  • Do you want configurable price notifications or price history? Use ITAD’s Waitlist and history tools.
  • Do you need to track games you already own? Use ITAD Collection.
  • Are privacy and account linking important? Review Steam profile visibility and ITAD’s data and affiliate disclosures before connecting accounts.
  • Are you unsure whether a deal works in your country or with your preferred DRM? Verify the individual store listing instead of relying on the headline price.

The practical choice

For most PC players, the strongest setup is not a winner-takes-all choice. Read Wishlister when you need curated ideas, use Steam Wishlist to keep a focused list and receive Valve’s eligible notifications, and bring ITAD into the process when you care about price history, cross-store offers, or custom alert rules. If you only buy on Steam and want minimal setup, Steam alone is sufficient. If buying at the right price matters more than staying in one storefront, ITAD adds the control Steam does not provide.
