There is no single best weapon for every player in Where Winds Meet. Start with the combat rhythm you enjoy—close melee, ranged pressure or moving unseen—then choose a second weapon that gives your loadout another useful option. You can equip two weapons and switch between them during combat, so your first choice does not have to define your whole build.
Start with how you want to engage
The official Where Winds Meet website frames weapon choice around the way you prefer to fight: up close, at range, or by moving unseen. Use that as a first filter rather than chasing an unsupported “best overall” ranking.

- Close melee: If you want to stay near your target, begin with a weapon whose combat feel makes close engagement enjoyable.
- Ranged pressure: If you prefer attacking from farther away, look for a weapon or martial art that supports that approach.
- Moving unseen: If you enjoy stealth-oriented engagement, favor options that fit that style rather than choosing solely from a damage ranking.
The official site names sword, spear, dual blades, glaive, fan and umbrella among its weapons, and also describes switching between weapons, bows and martial arts. That list is not a guaranteed exhaustive or current roster, so check the game’s current in-game options before treating it as complete.
Choose a combat feel, not just a weapon name
Lead designer Chris Lyu says weapons differ in weight, speed and feel, but the available descriptions do not map every weapon family to a complete mechanical profile. If you are deciding between options, pay attention to whether you enjoy faster, lighter actions or heavier, weightier attacks, and try the weapon in combat where possible.

The umbrella illustrates why a weapon’s feel can matter as much as its category. Lyu describes it as “soft yet sharp, defensive yet aggressive”: it can shield when opened and become a blade when closed. Treat this as a design description, not proof that the umbrella is stronger or safer than another weapon in any particular mode.
Plan both weapon slots together
You can equip two weapons simultaneously and switch between them during combat, according to Lyu in a PlayStation Blog interview. He also explains that weapons can be learned, replaced or matched, and that weapon combinations with martial arts and internal arts are part of character builds.
Instead of asking only which weapon to equip, decide what you want each slot to do for you:
- Pick a preferred approach. Choose the weapon whose range and feel make you want to use it as your main option.
- Give the second slot a purpose. Consider whether you want another way to engage, a different tempo, or a complement to your first weapon and martial arts.
- Try switching during combat. The two-weapon system is designed for in-fight changes; see whether alternating options suits your timing and decisions.
- Revisit the pairing as your build changes. Since weapons can be replaced or matched with martial arts and internal arts, treat the pair as part of a broader build rather than a permanent commitment.
These are decision questions, not a claim that a particular pairing is proven best. The available sources do not establish a current top pairing by damage, survivability or ease of use.

Adjust the choice to the mode or encounter
A weapon that feels right for one activity is not automatically the best choice for PvE, PvP or group play. A useful comparison needs current evidence for the specific mode or encounter, as well as the player’s range preference, desired combat tempo and intended role for each slot. The official design descriptions explain broad styles and flexibility, but they do not establish current mode-specific weapon rankings.
Where Winds Meet launched free-to-play on PC and PlayStation 5, with cross-play and cross-progression, according to NetEase’s November 14, 2025 launch announcement. Those are launch-era details, not a statement of current platform availability or balance. The official site displayed Version 2.2 news dated September 29–30, 2026; check current official update information and in-game details before relying on older weapon lists or making a present-day performance comparison.
What a “best weapon” claim can—and cannot—tell you
The sources establish that weapon choice is meant to reflect a player’s fighting style and that a flexible two-weapon loadout is part of combat. They do not provide a dated, comparative ranking showing which weapon or pairing has the highest damage, survivability, or ease of use in PvE or PvP. A confident universal tier list would therefore go beyond what is established here.
For your own choice, compare weapons by four practical questions: preferred range, speed and weight you enjoy, the job you want each slot to do, and the mode or encounter you are preparing for. Keep a designer’s description of how a weapon is intended to feel separate from evidence that it performs better.
