A Waven tier list is one author’s judgment about which characters, classes, or builds are comparatively effective under particular assumptions. It can help you decide what to try, but it is not an official score or a guarantee that a high-ranked choice will suit every mode, encounter, build, or stage of progression. Before following a ranking, check what it evaluates, when it was updated, and how it reached its conclusions.
What a Waven tier list actually tells you
A tier label compresses a comparison into a shortcut: options placed higher are judged stronger than options below them by the list’s author. For example, Pocket Gamer’s scale runs from SS at the top to D at the bottom. The guide describes its top characters as best in the current meta and says lower-ranked characters can still work; those are the guide’s assessments, not official ratings or published win-rate measurements. A ranking can be reasoned and still involve judgment. In a 2024 methodology video, creator Ultima ArmA wrote, “I tried to use objective criteria, but my evaluation of these criteria may be subjective.” The description also notes that the creator had not played some weapons since returning and drew on other players’ knowledge and builds. That is a useful distinction: criteria may be explicit, while choosing and weighting them remains subjective. Ultima ArmA’s tier-list methodology video
Check the date, version, and thing being ranked
Rankings can change as the game changes, and two lists may not even compare the same kind of thing. One may rank named heroes, another classes, and another specific builds. Do not combine their tiers into a single consensus without first confirming they are answering the same question.

Those dates and details describe what the articles state. They do not establish that either list remains current beyond its stated update, or that its placements are supported by a published character-level performance dataset. Check the in-game version and the guide itself before applying a time-sensitive ranking.
Match the list to your goal and build
Waven combines turn-based tactical combat with deckbuilding, and its factsheet describes PvE, PvP, and Island Defense modes. A choice judged strong in one mode or encounter is not automatically the best choice in another. Waven game factsheet

Build and progression assumptions matter, too. Skills use a deckbuilding mechanic, and characters equip items of different rarities. Ask whether the ranking assumes particular equipment, runes, companions, levels, or a mature build before comparing its result with a newer account or a different setup. Player discussion illustrates why the question needs context: a July 2026 community thread asking which classes are strongest includes different preferences and distinguishes endgame farming from particular fights and builds. How to compare conflicting rankings
- Compare update dates and versions. A list for an older version may reflect different conditions from one tied to a newer version.
- Check the unit of comparison. Confirm whether each source ranks a class, named hero, or specific build.
- Match the activity. Look for the mode, encounter, or goal the ranking addresses, such as PvE, PvP, or farming.
- Read the build assumptions. Look for stated equipment, runes, companions, level, and progression requirements.
- Inspect the criteria and explanation. Prefer a placement whose reasoning is visible enough for you to judge whether it applies.
If the lists still disagree after that check, they may be using different priorities or making different judgments—not necessarily making a simple factual error. A tier without its scope, assumptions, and reasoning gives you little basis for deciding whether its result fits your play.

- The list is stale or its version is unclear: do not treat its ranking as a current answer.
- It evaluates a different activity or build: its order may not help with your goal.
- It offers no criteria or explanation: treat the placement as a weak signal rather than a reason to switch.
- A low-ranked option fits your preferred style or available setup: Pocket Gamer itself says lower-ranked choices can still work, though that is the guide’s view rather than a universal guarantee. Pocket Gamer’s guide
Use a tier list to narrow what you might try, then judge the choice against your own mode, build, and progress. The label alone cannot establish that one option will outperform another for every player.
