What every edition gives you
Standard includes the complete base game
Standard is not a trial or reduced gameplay version. It includes the base game and its launch roster of 20 playable characters. The same core offline modes are available regardless of edition: Episode Mode, local Versus, Training Mode, All-Star Arena, Battle Guides, and Character Guides. Arcadia Rumble can also be played offline, with optional online features.

Standard is available digitally and as a physical PS5 edition. The physical release is particularly useful if you share discs, resell games, or prefer not to tie the initial purchase to a console account. A physical buyer does not lose access to the paid add-ons: the official FAQ confirms that physical PS5 Standard owners can buy Digital Deluxe or Ultimate content through PlayStation Store.
Digital Deluxe adds the Year 1 pass and two lobby collectibles
Digital Deluxe contains the Standard game plus the Year 1 Characters and Stage Pass. The pass covers four additional characters, one additional stage, and a set of result-screen poses for the 20-character base roster. The official FAQ says the poses become available when the pass is purchased; Steam says the remaining pass content is expected to be delivered by December 31, 2027.
Two non-combat items are also included: a Howard the Duck lobby avatar and a Cosmo lobby pet. They affect your lobby presentation rather than the fighting mechanics.

Ultimate includes all Digital Deluxe content, then adds animated chromatic color variations for every one of the 20 launch characters and five extra costumes:
- Spider-Man: “Advanced Suit 2.0”
- Storm: Punk Rock
- Iron Man: Classic
- Captain America: Classic
- Doctor Doom: Supreme Ruler
Those costumes and animated colors are Ultimate-only bonuses in the edition comparison. They do not add characters, stages, or gameplay systems beyond what the pass provides.
How the Year 1 Characters and Stage Pass affects the choice
What is announced
The pass includes four fighters and one stage. A GamesRadar report published October 11, 2026 identified the announced fighters as Venom, Jubilee, Jane Foster’s Thor, and Phoenix Cyclops. The same report placed Phoenix Cyclops’ release on November 2, 2026, with other content arriving later in 2027. Treat those as announced or reported dates, not guarantees: downloadable-content schedules can change.
Buy the pass now or wait
PlayStation and Steam list the Year 1 pass separately at $34.99. Standard therefore lets you postpone the pass decision until you know whether you want the characters and stage. Digital Deluxe costs $25 more than Standard at the listed US prices, so it is cheaper than buying a $34.99 pass later, before assigning any value to the two lobby items. That saving matters only if you would actually buy the pass; a player interested solely in the base roster should not pay for content they will not use.
Ultimate’s $99.99 list price is $15 above Digital Deluxe and $40 above Standard. At the temporary $84.99 PlayStation price, Ultimate is displayed at the same price as Digital Deluxe, making the five costumes and animated color set an incremental bonus during the promotion. The offer ends at the stated UTC time unless PlayStation changes it.
Upgrade paths and total-cost scenarios
The official FAQ confirms that Standard and Digital Deluxe owners can upgrade to Ultimate. PlayStation lists a Standard-to-Ultimate upgrade at $40, while Steam lists the same $40 amount for Standard owners and $15 for Deluxe owners. Store pricing and upgrade availability can change, so verify the purchase screen for your platform before confirming.

| Starting purchase | Possible later purchase | Listed US amounts | What that route means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | Year 1 Characters and Stage Pass | $59.99 + $34.99 | You defer the pass decision; the combined listed total is $94.98 if you later buy it |
| Standard | Ultimate upgrade | $59.99 + $40 | You reach Ultimate content for a listed $99.99 total, subject to store terms |
| Digital Deluxe | Ultimate upgrade | $84.99 + $15 on Steam | You add the Ultimate cosmetic set after buying the pass and lobby items |
| Ultimate at list price | Nothing required | $99.99 | All edition content is purchased at once |
| Ultimate at the PlayStation promotion price | Nothing required | $84.99 through October 22, 2026 at 06:59 UTC | The displayed promotion matches Digital Deluxe’s listed US price while it lasts |
The $94.98 Standard-plus-pass calculation is arithmetic from the listed prices, not a promise that a future pass sale or bundle will use those amounts. Buying Standard first can still be sensible because the upgrade route preserves your ability to add content later.
Choose by the kind of buyer you are
Choose Standard when the base game is enough
- You primarily want the 20-character launch roster and offline modes.
- You want to spend $59.99 at the listed US price rather than commit to downloadable content.
- You want a physical PS5 disc.
- You are unsure whether the Year 1 characters will become part of your regular rotation.
- You want to wait for a sale or decide after seeing the post-launch roster in action.
Standard is also the least risky choice for a first-time fighting-game buyer. You can learn the systems, test local multiplayer, and use Training Mode before deciding whether a pass or cosmetic upgrade has value for you.
Choose Digital Deluxe when the pass is part of your plan
- You already expect to play Venom, Jubilee, Jane Foster’s Thor, or Phoenix Cyclops when they arrive.
- You want the additional stage and result-screen poses.
- You care about the Howard the Duck avatar and Cosmo pet.
- You are comfortable with a digital purchase and do not need a disc.
At $84.99, Digital Deluxe is $25 above Standard and $10 below Ultimate’s list price. Its value comes from the pass and lobby items, not from launch-roster costumes.
Choose Ultimate when cosmetics matter or the promotion is live
- You want all five named costumes and animated colors for every launch character.
- You would otherwise buy Digital Deluxe and then pay for the Ultimate upgrade.
- You can purchase during PlayStation’s displayed $84.99 offer ending October 22, 2026 at 06:59 UTC.
- You want the complete announced package immediately and do not want to track a later upgrade.
If the PlayStation promotion is still visible when you buy, Ultimate and Digital Deluxe are shown at the same US price. In that narrow situation, Ultimate is the straightforward value choice for anyone who has already decided on Digital Deluxe. If the promotion has expired, compare the $99.99 Ultimate list price with your actual interest in the five costumes and animated colors.
Physical PS5 buyers: what you can and cannot do
The physical option is the PS5 Standard Edition. There is no physical Digital Deluxe or Ultimate edition identified in the official edition information. Physical Standard owners can still purchase Digital Deluxe or Ultimate upgrades in PlayStation Store, so choosing a disc does not permanently lock you out of downloadable content.
Upgrades are tied to the platform account and store region used for the purchase. Check that your disc and PlayStation account use the same regional edition before buying add-ons, particularly if you import a copy.

Platform, cross-play, and online requirements
MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls is officially available on PS5 and PC, with PC versions on Steam and Epic. PlayStation states that PS5 and PC support cross-play. Edition contents are the deciding factor here; the game does not list a platform-exclusive roster or mode for Standard, Digital Deluxe, or Ultimate.
- PS5 online play: Internet access and a PlayStation Plus subscription are required.
- PC online features: Internet access and a PlayStation account are required.
- Offline play: Episode Mode, local Versus, Training Mode, All-Star Arena, Battle Guides, Character Guides, and Arcadia Rumble with optional online features are available.
These requirements do not change with the edition. If you mainly play offline, do not buy Digital Deluxe or Ultimate expecting extra offline modes; pay for those editions only for their listed characters, stage, poses, lobby items, costumes, or colors.
Controller and setup considerations
A PS5-compatible arcade stick or leverless controller can be used, according to the official PlayStation page. Nacon Daija and Victrix Pro KO are listed there as examples of competitive setup products. These accessories are optional: the edition choice does not require an arcade stick, and a standard gamepad is sufficient to select and play any edition.

When budgeting, keep the controller separate from the game edition. A new controller does not unlock pass characters or Ultimate cosmetics, and buying Ultimate does not include one.

- Choose your platform. Select PS5 if you want the physical route; select PC if you prefer Steam or Epic. Confirm that your friends use a cross-play-supported platform if online multiplayer is the priority.
- Decide whether you need a disc. If yes, buy physical Standard and retain the option to upgrade digitally. If no, compare all three digital prices.
- Answer the pass question. If four post-launch characters, one stage, and the result-screen poses are part of your plan, compare Digital Deluxe with the $34.99 standalone pass. If not, Standard is sufficient.
- Answer the cosmetics question. If the five costumes and animated colors for all 20 launch characters are important, compare Ultimate’s list price or current promotion with Digital Deluxe plus the applicable upgrade.
- Check the live store total. Confirm taxes, currency, regional pricing, promotion end time, and upgrade eligibility immediately before checkout.
- Keep the receipt and account region consistent. This is especially important for physical PS5 buyers adding digital content later.
Common buying mistakes
Assuming every edition has a physical version
The identified physical release is PS5 Standard. Digital Deluxe and Ultimate are digital edition choices in the official comparison. Buy the disc if that format matters, then use the confirmed upgrade path if you later want premium content.
Confusing the Year 1 pass with Ultimate cosmetics
The pass supplies additional characters, a stage, and result-screen poses. Ultimate’s five costumes and animated chromatic colors are a separate cosmetic benefit. Buying the pass does not, by itself, grant those Ultimate-only items.
Treating the Ultimate discount as permanent
PlayStation’s $84.99 Ultimate price was displayed as a promotion ending October 22, 2026 at 06:59 UTC. The regular listed price remains $99.99. Recheck the store rather than assuming the discount will still apply.
Paying for online access when you only play offline
PS5 online play requires PlayStation Plus, but the listed offline modes work without online competition. If your plan is local or solo play, account for the base game and edition content rather than an online subscription you will not use.
Expecting announced DLC dates to be fixed
Phoenix Cyclops was reported for November 2, 2026, with other Year 1 content later in 2027. Those are announced or reported timings and may move. Buy the pass for the confirmed scope, not an assumption that every character will arrive on a particular day.
Recommendations by budget and priorities
| Your priority | Recommended edition | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Lowest listed US price | Standard | $59.99 includes the full base game and 20 launch characters |
| Physical PS5 ownership | Standard physical | The identified disc edition is Standard, and digital upgrades remain available |
| All announced pass content | Digital Deluxe | Includes the Year 1 Characters and Stage Pass plus two lobby items |
| Pass plus Ultimate cosmetics | Ultimate | Adds five costumes and animated colors for the 20-character launch roster |
| Best displayed PlayStation value during the stated promotion | Ultimate | Shown at $84.99, the same as Digital Deluxe’s listed price, through October 22, 2026 at 06:59 UTC |
| Maximum flexibility | Standard, then upgrade if needed | You can learn the base game first and add the pass or Ultimate content later |
Bottom line for each edition
Standard is the correct default for most undecided buyers: it delivers the base game at $59.99, supports all listed offline modes, and is the physical PS5 choice.
Digital Deluxe is justified when the Year 1 pass is already part of your purchase plan. Its $84.99 price is lower than buying Standard and the separately listed $34.99 pass later, provided you value the pass and its included lobby items.
Ultimate is the specialist choice for cosmetic collectors and pass buyers. At list price it costs $15 more than Digital Deluxe; during the displayed PlayStation promotion, it costs the same $84.99, making the Ultimate-only cosmetics an added benefit. Store terms, regional prices, and promotion windows can change, so make the final decision from the live checkout screen.
