Check who can play each game
Access rules vary by title and event. Some Free Play Days games require an eligible Game Pass membership; others are offered to all Xbox members. Check the specific game’s current listing rather than assuming every title has the same requirement. Xbox Wire event posts have included both membership-required titles and “Free Play Days for All” titles, including in its January 2026 event.

Free Play Days offers run for specific dates, and game lineups change. Confirm the dates and regional availability on the live collection or individual listing before starting a download; older event announcements do not establish what is available now. For example, Xbox Wire published dated lineups in its May 28, 2026 announcement and its May 7, 2026 announcement.

What happens after Free Play Days?
Xbox Wire says players can purchase a game or other editions at a limited-time discount to continue playing, and retain Gamerscore and achievements earned during the event. Whether a discount is offered, its amount, and availability can vary by title and region; check the game’s listing. This statement does not establish that every game’s saved data or access entitlement will carry over.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. If the install option is missing
First confirm that you are signed in to Microsoft Store and that the title is still within its event window and available in your region. If those checks do not resolve the issue, consult current Xbox Support guidance for your specific console or account problem; Xbox’s event instructions do not specify fixes for failed downloads, storage limits, or regional errors.
